The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

I'd be careful when using info from alphacool as the thickness they use is for their own waterblock and not the original heat sync, my card for instance says 1mm pads for VRAM according to alphacool yet even 2mm was not thick enough and needed 2.5mm in the end.

Oh god!
Thank you for the advice Joxeon!
I need to investigate even more.

And other:

The memory on our cards (all 3090-3080- etc) has to run below 95º celsius.
I think the safe place is between 80-90. Please check the manufacturer´s information (Not Nvidia, memory manufacturer; Micron)

So you think it is safe to undervolt these cards even lower?
270 or 270 watts is safe?

Just let me know what do you think (Specially those her who do minning).

My card 3090fe is showing as 261w but MJT is between 100-102 depending on the room temp. However when I switched to Octopus/Trex MJT went down to 94-96 but the profitability also drops.
The throttling tends to start the closer it gets to 100c, i.e. when I start it off I get hashrates of around 109-110 but as it gets close to 100c it starts dropping to between 107-108 and stays there.
With weather getting warmer now I will most likely switch algo or dial it down, I am trying to keep MJT at 100 or below. No scientific theory behind it though.

The thing is, Micron have not released the max Tj temps for GDDR6x - which is the "VRAM Temp" you're reading via HWInfo.

The max operating temp is not the same thing.

For example, for GDDR 5 and 6 max operating temp is 95c but the max Tj is 100c. There have been suggestions that GDDR6x may be even higher, but it's just speculation until Micron release that info.

Gigabyte 3090 Gaming OC user here.

I updated to the latest VBIOS (F3 w/ Re-BAR support), apparently Gigabyte lowered power limit, the slider maxes out at 100% (before i was able to select up to 105%, 375W +-) and according to the GPU-Z the board power draw is capped at 355W, i definitely lost some performance.

I've no idea if this was intended or not, there is no change log (https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N3090GAMING-OC-24GD/support#support-dl-bios).

My fans spin all the time. Even on the desktop they sit at 30%. I believe this is a side effect of running more than one monitor. Luckily they are pretty silent at that speed anyway.
i am running dual monitors and my fans never spin. only when i play a video game

Same here, two monitors and fans still do zero mode. There was an issue where custom fancurves in afterburner meant that the fan never went below 30%. Don't know if it's been addressed.
