The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

It's just a discount code thats same for everyone that they are giving out. I did get one 20% off blaa blaa .. I should go find something really expensive there and use it and sell it on ebay lol. I think we need to string up Nvidia for this mess.

Anyways waiting on EVGA or a FE (just hate the thought of giving my money direct to Nvidia) or now till next fake in stock appears.. Now just want my refund from these clowns and I should have known better really .. I knew they were a bit of a joke site and their trustpilot reviews says it all.

Code seems to work on unlimited number of items. Seems to work to buy 99 iPad pros. If it went through I could probably auction them at a markup lol.

@Jay85 You'll wanna look into updating that CPU ASAP, it's going to bottle neck the GPU a fair amount :(
Yeah i've been keeping out an eye out for a 9900k tbh, gonna see if i can snag one at xmas on MM.

Looks like +195 core and +400 mem is about my limit on this.

Just tried +210 and +450 but it hardlocked on me. Might try +210 on core only but i doubt its the memory thats crashing.

Looks like you also have G-Sync on, should turn that off for benching but thats right up there you are already in the HOF!

It's actually off, for some reason its detecting it as on still. I've reset it now and it doesn't show anymore. I'll run 1 more test to confirm using the same settings.

Ah ok, you arent far off mine (im RexAlba at number 71 in HOF)... if you beat me tell me what you did haha :D

Edit: and lower your clocks, immediatly

LOL I didn't even get that. Is it a voucher or just their discount codes ?

Edit just got an email ... It's just a discount code thats same for everyone that they are giving out.

It did absolutely nothing lol, score was lower cos i hit a thermal limit for my clocks. I noticed if i can keep it under 50c my average clocks are quite abit higher. Difference of about 150 points!

Yeah I got my best score when it peaked out at about 51C towards end of test i think, could easily score higher with air conditioning on it or something but to be honest I just wanted to verfy everything is running correct.
I bought the FE knowing it probably wouldnt be the quickest version, rather hoping it does make for a really cool watercooled card due to the smaller PCB and hearing EKWB are making "something special" for the FE cards ^^

All 3000 series start downclocking the boost as soon as it hits 50C. I know at 70c for every 5c it drops 15Mhz. I presumre its something less between 50C and 70C.

But potentially your best overclock might be a bit less on the core/power if it kept you under 50c? Going to be weird overclocking these cards to be best performance.

In the old days of chasing targets I had stupid high power fans and would try for best scores on cold days with no central heating on and the side of my case off and another massive fan blowing in :)

You only need a few minutes for a bench run after all :)

To be fair the the FE previously have been some of the best performing cards and best boosting cards. Even when you flash them with a bios which allows more power, you end up with a lower boost. Nvidia really do put a lot of effort into their FE cards and getting great performance out of them.

Lots of the tops scores with the last gen were posted with 2080ti FE under water.

Only the really high end custom boards like EVGA and Asus and HOF tend to better them once they are under water.

I guess they do get their pick of the chips heh, I will be doing a full custom loop when the WB's are released so look forward to trying it.

Does anyone else have bursty frame drops? During port royal, every second I get a dip in fps then it goes back up to what it was.

It appears to coincide with board power draw. Usually it pulls 350ish W at stock but I get an fps drop when it dips to 330ish W.

Is this normal? How do I prevent this?

I take back everything i said about CPU not mattering in Port Royal, I just did a first pass OC on my new CPU/RAM and my PR score jumped up to 14131! #39 in the HOF

Bigminimus - No... are you sure your PSU is up to it? Maybe you arent using 2 seperate 8-pin power leads back to the PSU?

Yeah with these 3090s I wouldn't be surprised that there are a lot of people with issues because their psu can't handle it's peaks. :/

Yep I believe this is why I'm getting crashes in games - 7 year old 850W Seasonic PSU. Tried everything I can and nothing has solved it so have a Corsair 1000W coming tomorrow and I really hope it fixes it...! Can't play anything really without it crashing.

Yeah Nvidia are saying recommended is 750W but surely that would have to be a good quality one with not only the power requirements but the quality of the power rails? And then factor in, like you say ones that are not brand new like your Seasonic psu and therefore a fair amount of issues with 3090 users yeah. Having a potential 350watts needed for the gpu the quality/age of the power supply would surely affect it?

Let's hope so mate.:)

Plus you may have had a decent one but they do detoriate with age. A 10 year old 750w psu might only be able to handle 700w or have ripples on the rails when pushed close to the limit.
