That's a similar view to how I looked at it. Actually set out to buy a 3080 but with the price going up and only 10gb. I wanted something to last me at least 3 years. Could have waited for the 3080ti but I reckon its going to be £1000 rrp meaning £1200 until 2022.

I came from a 1060 6GB but with a 4670k and 1600mhz DDR3 to a 3090, 10900k and 3200Mhz DDR4 and it was worth every penny spent!

Only a small upgrade haha... nice. I’m so tempted by a 3080/3090 but waiting for stock and hopefully for the 6900X to potentially pull pricing down on the 3090, maybe.

Im mainly waiting for stock as no way I’m paying the hiked prices when the 3080/3090 are only £649/£1399 directly from nvidia, some of the AIB ones are £1800+ on ocuk

Got my 2nd 3090FE today, coil whine on this one is even worse. Probably gonna send this one back too

What was interesting about mine was I bought it from elsewhere and then that site put the price up by nearly £200 overnight.

It isn't just OCUK who are scalping their customers, it's commonplace.

I think many of the cards since 1080ti went up just after release depending on demand. If you want RRP then you'll have to wait until all those that are prepared to spend more are done and retailers see a reduction in demand. 1080ti's didn't come down for ages but the difference this time round is that the difference is more because the 3080 RRP is cheaper than a 1080ti was ~£700 but is getting on towards x2 performance.

Coil whine - always disappeared after a while. My Zotac has none - first I've bought in years with no whine.

Unfortunately, you won’t get one without whine especially if you are running high refresh. I’ve been through 20 plus cards past few years nothing changed, to save you the hassle.

Coil whine screaming like a dog whistle sure but the buzzing you get at normal framerates is something I’m yet to see a high powered/wattage card free of. Only thing you can do is mask it. Such as blocking off vents in the case and ports on the card. Or move the case further away.

Best thing for me, as it was driving me insane was moving my pc away. It’s about 10ft away now. Cannot hear it anymore and it gives the freedom of not caring about noise from future upgrades.

You reckon your coil whine currently is as bad as when you first got it? HAs it not quietened at all? With your current card.

While I agree you'll never get a card that is truly 100% free of coil whine, some are definitely better than others, and this 3090 is definitely the worst I've ever had.

Nope not in the slightest. Easily the loudest thing in the case.

That is true I did have one once that was certainly better than others. Still audible but quieter than others. Could be cooler design as the pcb was isolated quite well, etc or could be luck I guess.

I don't think I've had much bother with coil whine at all, in any card. Maybe I've been lucky or maybe I'm just not sensitive to it, I dunno.

Noticed this also. i Paid £1529 for my PNY just over 4 weeks ago. The same retailer has now restocked this card at £1629. Other retailers prices are now creeping up to and over £1700 for the standard reference board cards.

Though it didn't work out the box.... Kept crashing soon as any load hit the card... Was gutted.... Anyway after bridging a 2nd 500wPSU to run just the card it turns out that the EVGA 1200W PSU I had to RMA only 6 months ago cant run a 3090fe...... EVGA are literally the worst... nothing but trouble with them... So another £25 to sent it back to RMA and a 4 week wait....

Great job big man! Oh dear so the PSU is useless? wow not heard that before from that brand usually they are pretty strong. Frustrating.

I had a 1500W EVGA PSU, it was total "£$%, I was so disgusted with it that I threw it in the bin.

EVGA are not the company they were 5 years ago.

I had the same problem with my seasonic 850w gold focus. Random crashes and restarts when the GPU was under high load. seasonic are good psu's but some are not with a 3090 it seems. Never had problems with that power supply until the 3090 was installed. Replaced it with a corsair 1000w platinum which ended all those issues.
