The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

Really bizarre. Shows 'good' brands can become poor in a short period of time, or just use crap components internally for certain models. Im gonna keep my eye out for a 850/1000w unit in a sale but has to be the right quality, seems high end cards can be sensitive to delivery, I know the vega thread had few issues like this and swapping PSU 'cured' problems that other GPU's didnt have.

I had the same problem with my seasonic 850w gold focus. Random crashes and restarts when the GPU was under high load. seasonic are good psu's but some are not with a 3090 it seems. Never had problems with that power supply until the 3090 was installed. Replaced it with a corsair 1000w platinum which ended all those issues.
Corsair are my first choice when it comes to PSUs. My Corsair 650 watt is happily ticking along in my current system, although I am probably pushing it close to the max.

Thanks all.

Yer going to get a new PSU I did an online calc it thinks I need just over 900w.

Gonna bin the 1200 EVGA, was £300 2x RMA £25 each time, now worth the fix.

Thinking about one of the Corsair 1000 series platinum jobs?

Also the backplate on the 3090fe is incredibly hot, and the soak to the whole card is the hottest thing I have ever touched GPU wise
Is that right for hear cards?

I managed an under volt 1900mhz can't get near 2000 under or over volt.

Is it possible how hot the cards running it's a dud? And that's causing the 1200 PSU to trip? Just never seen heat like it.
Says 55c under load on the GPU but the shroud and backplate feel more like 80+?

Did manage a 13565 port royal score without much effort.

In VR the card a very regular stutter which you can see as a total dropped frame every few seconds in the graph.

Performance in VR last night was amazing, then today reprojected all day... somthing feels wrong. just not sure if it's the card or the power.

The Vram on these cards get incredibly hot.....think Igors labs measured the heat of the GDDR6x Vram chips at 104 degrees when in use...mines under water with an EK Block and Backplate also vertically mounted, with fans directly underneath blowing and touching the backplate when gaming, its VERY hot....even with the GPU at 50 Degrees max.

It's within spec.

I invested in this baby a while ago ▷ Super Flower Leadex Platinum '8Pack Edition' … | OcUK (overclockers.co.uk)

power is just not an issue, never had coil whine and enough power for anything you can trough at it with ease. a great PSU!

OH my days, thats the most overkill ever! lol

Nice for a mining rig though...

A decent 850w is plenty, and if you want more breathing space you shouldnt need to exceed 1000w. However a decent make always trumps a higher rated wattage from a mediocre brand. If the stock (most seem to be out if I find one I like) is there and its not over £150 I will be investing in one myself as I sold the backup one when I built a family friend a christmas gaming rig so I am going to phase that move in at some stage.

That shouldnt be a poor product by how much it costs Tiny. Ditch em then, thanks for sharing will avoid them for a while till I see they get better press.
I'm a tad gutted tbh it did cost a ton and it's popped twice on low loads.
Doesn't half make a bang when it goes!

Its normal it feels hot. Its good it feels hot, means the heat is being removed from the GPU which is running relatively cool to the metal shroud to allow the fans to dissipate it. 350w-400W consistently is going to feel hot! Definitely not it indicative of it being a dud. Would be more worried if it was not getting hot.

Sounds like your PSU is just wonkey.

Overkill or not i dont have to worry power ever again, with some 3090's pulling 400w the EVGA pulling 500w the last thing you need is a whiney PSU in the back ground.

TBH as someone mentioned earlier a good branded psu is better than a cheaper one, especially in reliability and cleanliness of the power being supplied, I don't mind paying for a psu, and have done, before, but the prices for psus atm is massively inflated and has been on the rise since 2019.
I think there's a large shipment coming soon maybe towards the middle of Dec. But I think it would be wise maybe to get some backplate cooling on our cards if only for some peace of mind, even if you're not going to put the whole card under water. I can't help but feel like I'm cooking up my mobo and dimms with my card in it's vertical mount

I had exactly the same issue with a 2 year old seasonic prime ultra gold 850w power supply. The system would just shut off randomly under high load, It never had an issue previously including SLI gtx1080's! I replaced mine with the 1300w seasonic prime gold and haven't had a single crash yet.
