The Ampere RTX 3090 Owners Thread

The FE models? They do not at least 3090 and 3080 do not come with an adjustable pole in the box or anything. Just a tiny box with adaptor and small manual in the box. I would assume the 3070FE does not either given the bigger ones do not, but not opened one of them.

Quoted the wrong post, its the msi suprim that comes with one as its a pretty hefty card.

Well got to play with my new 3090 tonight crysis modded 150 140fps from 89fps on the 2080ti well pleased. Forza 4 120fps to 150 nice. Pleased so far one last thing is the monster is heat crazy 44 degrees from 31 2080ti . Fan profile in after burner is 60 and it’s really quite .

I have just mounted my Zotac Trinity 3090 onto the cablemod vertical gpu bracket inside a Phanteks Evolv X case and the temps have surprisingly dropped a little.

So I did something potentially silly this evening and ordered myself a 3090.

I'd been holding out for a 3080 for a while and just never seemed to come looking at the right time to get a pre-order in but with a Valve Index that's sat largely unused and triple 1440p screens on the way (sim racing), I started to get tempted by the scalpers on eBay as my 1080FE just wasn't going to cut it.

Then, when I spotted a Palit 3090 GameRock OC in stock at RRP at another retailer, I thought I'd rather spend a few hundred extra and get something better rather than line some profiteeting sod's pocket. It's not the prettiest card, but I don't have any windows or anything, so not too fussed there.

I came here to see if there were any surprises fitting one. I've ordered a Corsair 850RX PSU to ensure power is covered, but unsure about my case and stories of needing to support the card. There seems to be enough space (+20mm spare if I relocate a fan) based on Palit's dimensions (304mm long).

I posted a random ghetto mod on my 3090FE in another post I made and thought people may be interested. Someone discussed deshrouding my 3090FE instead of water to help with noise levels, sadly that isn't really possible, but this gave me the idea of just strapping the Noctua fans I have to my GPU and making sure the air flowed in the same direction.

I made a bit of a hacky mod and attached the fans to the motherboard header and linked it to GPU temperature and maxed them out at around 1200RPM, then turned the FE fans down to 30%.

Temps have dropped drastically and the card is now sitting at around 60C under heavy load and the system is basically silent, not terrible for a couple of fans I had lying around anyway... Gives me chance to consider the watercooling properly and potentially a different case.

^^ good job, sounds like it works well and fits the color scheme of the case.

a recommendation I could make if you going keep it air cooled and don't mind a little bit more work - remove the stock fan from the 3090, leave the heatsink and shroud just unplug and remove the fan - you will even get better temps then because the fan won't be part blocking airflow from the noctua fans.

This is why we don't really see anyone try to stack fans -eg having let 3 fans stacked on top of each other, its counter intuitive. The noctua is the bigger higher flow fan, it would produce even better results with unobtrusive flow to the heatsink by the FE fan

I decided to bite the bullet. I won't believe it until it arrives tomorrow, but I managed to grab a 3090 FE! I know, I know. It's probably overkill. But honestly, is it silly if you cannot buy a 3080 and want something that is likely to last 3+ years? Maybe not.

Anyway. A couple of things - I'm on the latest Nvidia drivers. Is it still best to remove them completely before I install the card and then the newest drivers (same one's as now). I was planning on moving my PC into a 4U server rack case. I currently have a Corsair Obsidian 900D and it's obscene and weighs too much. Buying this will stop that plan, so I now need to find a new case. What are people's thoughts on veritcally mounting the card? Would that impact cooling performance?

No need to remove the drivers if you staying with Nvidia, the drivers are all the same anyway. When I switched from the 2080 Ti to the 3090 I just shutdown, removed old card, poped new in one and straight into windows, windows setup the card using the same driver anyway, even kept all my old driver settings and I was up and running.

i did the same couldn't get a 3080 for love nor money and had carrying on saving so 2 days ago a 3090FE came up and just though go for it, its a beast weights a ton and is massive and beautiful and well built GPU your going to love it when it arrives.
Mines in a Lian Li O11Dynamic XL black with a AMD 5600x for now but will be 5900x later in the year.

All I can say is enjoy it :D
