The Android rooting + flashing super guide

I want to try root my Desire. Ginger Villain 2.8 will be ok ROM ? I was going to try leedroid then some guy was telling me about EXT3 partition on SD card and I broke out into a sweat and got cold feet.

Ok after further reading I think I'm worrying about nothing and don't need to partition or any stuff like that for gingervillain. Will root tonight.

Finally got around to rooting/flashing my Desire last night with revolutionary.

Now on CM7. Anyone got any advice on what to do/make it look cooler? :p

Seriously can't believe it took me this long to root it... CM7 is awesome!

BTW should I still have the O2 branding? I want to get rid of that stupid splash screen :( I used revolutionary and clockworkmod to flash if that helps.

I think I have done it, but no idea how. I got the very very latest version from the xda site.

No idea how it happened but my sd card looks setup right too. I ran Quick System Info and there's loads of memory and I can move apps to SD card (most of them anyway). Here is the memory outlay:

SD Card Storage: 3.19gb - 3.01gb free
A2SD Storage: 457mb - 344mb free
Internal Storage: 148mb - 133mb free
System Storage: 250mb - 24.28mb free
System Cache: 40mb - 38.33mb free
Memory: 405mb - 112mb free 27.80mb idle

I have no idea if that is correct, setup for the ext3 partition etc but it's a darn sight more internal memory than before this latest rom.

OK I've done this too. So how does it work? If you fill up the internal memory does it start shifting to the sd partition by itself?

Anyone...? If I go on Apps 2 SD it still says 25 MB free, is there anything else I need to do re the partition?

PS saw the OP so splash screen is now changed :)

Can someone please tell me how to use Apps2SD+

I partioned manually in CWM and I have this in quick info:

SD Card Storage: 3.19gb - 2.89gb free
A2SD Storage: 457mb - 425mb free
Internal Storage: 148mb - 22.18mb free
System Storage: 250mb - 123mb free
System Cache: 40mb - 37.77mb free

I've already run out of space, so I'm guessing it's not working properly.. can someone give me some clues pretty please? :)

Hi i have a Desire (think its oled) on Orange (a8181) .

Its running 2.2.2 kernel 2.6.32.15 software 2.29.405.7 .

Now i just done a factory reset a few weeks ago as phone was sluggish (to many apps and messages) and it reset fine and was working a treat . I got a software update the other day and it now runs like a bag of **** . I done a vid of a mate the other day and its about 20 secs out of sync and pauses . nothing uppdates on the phone now.. weather/news etc and it feels slow and sluggish .

My son has a desire s which i prefer and would like a basic sense rom with some minor addons . Can i user the rom merrik posted with mrk's guide ? Im really usless with this stuff . There is nothing really on the phone im bothere about loosing so happy to delete/format etc

Help!!

Could someone please tell me how to get A2SD to work with CM7? I've just flashed from the Sense ROM to CM7 nightly and created EXT partition using ROM Manager. I don't seem to be able to find any up-to-date information apart from something about a legacy A2SD update. I'm using a Desire Z.

the way i understand it is that if the rom has a2sd support built in it should automatically start using your ext partition

ext partition could need aligning ? (have seen this mentioned before)

Thanks andy, that's what I thought would happen. From what I understood, all ROMs had A2SD support but it looks like CM7 doesn't without some sort of patch. I'm lost from there! I'll have a look at the aligning; it's not something I've come across.

Guys

Anyone using titanium backup pro do you backup all apps and user data, watching some youtube vids last night they say not to as it can carry issues across?

As long as I have my apps and don't have to setup my 3 email accounts again I'd be happy

Thanks

Copying all apps and user data is fine, it's copying system data that can cause problems. Some system data can be copied though, such as wallpapers and wifi access points.

Also, epic bump :p

I know another few weeks and it would have been 1 year

Hate creating new threads for the sake of it

Many thanks
