The Android rooting + flashing super guide

Just bung it on a folder on the SD card, in Recovery you have to scroll so put it in a folder called "a" or something to make life easier then just flash after clearing cache/dalvik and doing a full wipe to defaults.

I assume all my settings and stuff will go?

Oh also, do I need to backup my SD card, it won't get deleted will it?

Already set up A2SD+

With a new ROM a full wipe will wipe everything yes, it is a requirement to avoid issues.

hi all I wonder if someone can help me please? I've rooted and tried to flash a rom, but in doing so somehow wiped my SD card, including the new rom (.zip) image :S

I've clicked to format the SD card already with ROM manager, Is it now safe to copy the .zip file image to the SD card again and simply choose it from within recovery?

Can anyone assist me? I'm running unrEVOked, and it gets as far as rebooting the phone but then displays 'Waiting for bootloader; make sure driver is installed!', and hangs at that point.

Any ideas why it's doing this, and what I might need to do to complete the root?

/edit:

Sorted, was being a derp.

I have the latest LeeDroid 2.3b and you can update system apps such as the google ones. Titanium Backup will even incorporate any updates back into the ROM.

Took the plunge and flashed my Moto Droid with the latest Cyanogen rom - it's awesome!! Blazingly fast and some neat little additional features.

Love it

Finally plucked up the courage to do this last night. Don't know why I was worried it was easy as pie! Big thanks for the guide khaaan.

Running leedroid and already got a couple of custom mods on

Big Thanks To this Thread, finally decided to root my phone, havnt put a rom on it yet need to decide on which one :)

I'm trying to run Unrevoked on an Orange Desire, it goes through loads of stuff but then stops with this message:

Error: Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?

Anyone seen this before? Currently have two Desires, one is a USB brick and this one won't root.

edit - OK, seems a factory reset sorted it. Not sure what that was about though., this Desire is fresh out of its box, never been used before.

I was getting the "is your firmware too new?" problem yesterday on a brand new Desire.

I had to switch from ClockworkMod to AmonRa and used Unrevoked version 3.21 which got me sorted in the end.

I believe this is because my phone was a PVT4 which CWM doesn't seem to support yet. Maybe you could update the guide if people are still using it?

Very simple question.

Debranded my Orange Desire (OLED version) using the OEM ROM (de-branded).

Do I actually need to get this unlocked (Step 1) or is it fine to progress with the rest of the quality guide? Had a search but doesn't seem concrete.
