The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Hmmm .... not good ...

Heaven's Lost Property Forte loses it's BD release (for now at least, the scheduled release in March will be DVD only) and Strike Witches 2 is delayed until (probably) September ... :(

(Both licensor thingies)

Demonix, that's not good news at all from MB :(
I think they were pretty small to begin with so it could well mean they are down to a handful of staff now :(
Mind you, unlike Bandai from memory MB have a LA action arm like Animeago, and do some other stuff as well (I think for example they do hentai under a different label).

I think it's down to single figures although they only had around 20 staff to begin with but they are asking most of the workers they're laying off to work freelance so if they do then it won't affect them that much.
And they do have separate names for their anime, hentai and LA divisions (Anime works, Kitty Media and Tokyo Shock).

Aye that's about what i've read in the past day or so regarding MB (I knew they did hentai and la under other labels but can never remember which studio has what labels).

I think looking back over the last year or so the boss at MB has seen something like this possibly coming, as from memory they now have an anime related store as well (and I think used to do DVD/vhs rental of obscure titles if I'm thinking of the right DVD adverts), so have tried to diversify as much as possible so they don't have all their eggs in the one basket, doing on a smaller scale what TRSI have long since done, and MVM do here.

Hmmm .... in some ways I think I wish that Media Blaster were stopping releasing things instead of Bandai ... once again they have a situation where they have started releasing a series on DVD, (in this case Bakuman with Part 2 (of 4?) due in February), and now it's come out that they will be releasing it on BD starting in May ...

edit

At least it looks like Sentai are putting out Infinite Stratos on BD in April with a bonus soundtrack CD :)

Finished Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ (season 2) last night on Funi's BD release.

Season 2 follows on where season 1 left off with our protagonist up to his eyeballs in Sekirei and trying to understand what is going on and how to avoid anyone getting hurt.

It's never going to get any awards for being a complicated story but if you take it for what it is, harem comedy with most of the characters being fighting girls with large oppai, then it is a pretty fun watch some nice deeper moments mixed in.

The story does really need a third series (or something) as whilst the series ends on a conclusion of a plot arc it in no way closes the entire story.

Right im new to anime sort of, i own the following:
Ninja Scrolls
Afro Samurai series and film
Samurai 7

I just want a good violent story that makes sense (so no random weird craziness) and have me gripped to the end.

Edit: Ive done some research are these any good?
Gangtz
fullmetal alchemist
Basilisk
deathnote
Claymore

Fullmetal Alchemist has two separate series, the second being Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Both are quite long but are good in their own ways, (the later series supposedly being more faithful to the original manga.

Another good series is Samurai Champloo.

Cheers you seem to get what im after...samurai action:D
Anyway i think 3 series should be enough to keep me occupied ive hit the order button on the following:
Basilisk
Claymore
Samurai Champloo

Watched wolfs rain recently and i must say i quite enjoyed it. Which was a surprise because initally when i first saw some or most of ep 1 years ago i hated it as just seemed like a action flick with little to do with wolves in and well i was put right off. But i thought recently i would give a try and im glad i did as it had a really great story and a great end of the world feeling to it and journey of a group of people. Which i really like in a anime story. I saw a striking relation with Eureka from Eureka Seven and cheza from wolfs rain i duno if anyone noticed.

Also i watched and finished last night, Koi Kaze. Which was a very weird one to watch but it was interesting to watch and see a taboo unfolding. I think i read that nothing really happened with them but i found it did which was like really "omg" lol but as a whole it was mainly a nice melow drama about a guy having a sister stay with him and followed their lives and then well u know the rest.

Now my beef with these two animes. They had crappy endings. They both end unconcluded or explained and i feel done by by this as having invested time to watch em and then get a kick saying ok its done thats it.

Duno what im gona watch next it might be Tokyo Underground or Redline or The Wallflower or somit.

I know exactly what you mean about the ending to Wolf's Rain - it's like "...oh er right!". I know the message they are trying to put across but it's still a bit of a bummer.

Fullmetal Alchemist - The earlier part of the series covers events better than Brotherhood, a lot of people think Brotherhood has a stronger second half.
Basilisk - Decent, if grueling watch. Don't expect too many happy moments, it's all an exercise in grim futility
Deathnote - First half pretty good portal series and psychological drama, second half not so good
Claymore - Fun, Dark Fantasy. Reminds me very much of the Witcher PC/Book series in some themes. Having read the manga, I think the ending they chose for the series was fine.

Shame you don't want craziness or I'd also add Elfen Lied to the list, as its a personal favorutie.

Well in terms of crazy but still bloody, Rin might be worth a shot. I personally prefered the first 4/6 OVAs but it only cost £6.95 new :)

Watched my copy of Whisper of the Heart this evening.
Gotta say without a doubt it's my favourite of the Ghibli films I have watched so far, not only is it charming, at times it is humourous, and it's heart is 100% in the right place.
The Bluray transfer is also absolutely lovely, visually the colour looks fine, and the amazing attention to detail and to 'life' really comes out. Gone are sterile, unlived in environments, and we're presented with places that feel full of life; things might be a little messy, the paint might be coming off some walls, there are weeds in the grass, but it feels alive, in a way that a lot of shows just don't manage.

The BD has a nice 5.1 Japanese DTS-MA audio track, the rear surrounds aren't used to heavily, but just accent touches at times, the clarity itself is absolutely fine.
The subs themselves have a little more oddity, but are actually fine, the font they've used is a little wierd though in that all the J, Ys and other such letters bounced 'above the line', as though the text was vertically centred, which is a little wierd. I also noticed one typo I believe, and also one point where I thought a tiny point was lost in translation

"It's a treasure"
"It's Grandfather's Treasure"

You could clearly hear ojiisan and tarakamono, so I felt it was a shame that's not preserved, because Im sure there is a line later in the film which vaguely references that line.

This being said I'm being overtly critical, the film is more than understandable and as someone who doesn't speak Japanese and only remembers a few 'other translations' that it doesn't feel like much has been lost, the visual transfer looks great and very smooth most of the time, sounds absolutely fine on the JP 5.1 and the heart of the film itself is timeless.
I am also glad to say the Studio Canal release preserves Seiji and Shizuku's declarations at the end of the film, I heard Disney in thier wisdom, cut them from some other earlier versions of the western release of the film, which somewhat surprised me.

It's a true shame that Ghibli lost a new director after the release of this film, because I genuinely believe based on Whisper, he might have produced some classics for them. His unexpected death was a real loss to the industry.

9/10

Just got a new blu-ray/dvd player and just about to order the following:

Afro Samurai: Complete Murder Sessions and Berserk Complete Collection.

For the life of me I can't seem to find Devilman on DVD region 2 disc:(

Ah, just what we need in the US anime industry ... Funimation sues ADV/Section23/Sentai/etc for moneys owed due to the whole ADV/Sojitz mess (Funimation claim they got the right to press the matter due to agreements made with ARM Corp (owned by Sojitz and others as a licensing entity) for titles original held by ADV.

There are claims that what happened with ADV was done to defraud its creditors. I seem to remember at the time it all seemed a little strange with the way assets seemed to be moved around between "separate" companies which seemed to be all still be related by their owners to each others and the old company.

More details on ANN.
