The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I think Devilman is like 10 eps so nice and short either way, Violet slightly more and a film out for it.

Fate looks interesting, especially as the more recent ones are animated by ufotable who did Demon Slayer. If the animation work is as good then it should at least be visually great!

The slime show was a different sort of isekai for me, something nice and chill without too much angst ... it'll be quite the transistion going from that to the shield hero one ... were it me doing it all over again I'd probably work it around so I'd watch a slime episode straight after a shield episode just to recover.

Kaguya is definitely my favourite of what you've shortlisted there, but I like gag shows.
The assassination classroom one I didn't get into and was glad it was over when I got to the end so I'd not pick that (but it's all subjective).
Devilman one was alright, something a bit different from the usual style of shows I end up watching.
Violet evergarden was well done, but didn't quite fit me, I still enjoyed it and it's probably worth a watch.
Fate looks great but I just find myself not giving a hoot about for some reason and I don't think I've ever finished a show of, with the exception of the Lord El-Melloi one but that was something kinda different to use usual fate stuff.

Think I'll start with Devilman, Kaguya, and Fate/Zero for now.

I watched the first episode of Devilman last night and that very quickly went to the top of my wtf list. It's definitely different!

If Kaguya is light I might use that as my break between episodes of things like Shield Hero, I love dark themed anime but I have to balance that out with some lighter stuff too.

Agree about subjectivity of things, way I see it no harm in giving something a few episodes to see if any good.

Man I need to watch that (Moribito), I've had the DVD collection sat on my shelf for years...alas time :(

I am starting to think a heavy watch session followed by old disc clear out may be in due if I haven't watched things sitting there for so long.

well I've manage to watch gate, Gun Girl Online, Aldnoah Zero since Monday afternoon. got starship Operator line up next to watch.

I liked gate, I thought that was a pretty good take on the the whole modern world meets fantasy kinda thing ... Cop Craft is another show like that that springs to mind - though I seem to remember that being a bit janky in places where they just had to have one still frame and shake it about a bit to indicate action rather than anime it, probably some kinda budget or deadline problems, was still fairly decent as far as I can remember.

This more is manga related but wondering if the whole Beserk series is worth buying?

Playing through Dark Souls thought I'd try some of the inspiration for it, liked the first book sample and bought the first 7 volumes on Kindle phone app as some of them are only £2.30 reduced from £12.50.

Oddly priced though, some at £7, though many others at just £2.30. Tempted to get the whole 41 volumes while so many are still at just £2.30. Just under £200 for the whole lot, way cheaper than getting actual books that I don't have room for anyway.

Watching the Alltheanime.com panel about the 12 days of christmas sale and I'm slightly relieved that some of the prices are less than I'd feared, but also concenred that it looks like i'll get betting at least 7 probably 8 of their announced things...(which is worrying as I've still got stuff from last December to watch!)
They're doing 15% off your first 12 days order for their screen anime annual subscribers (10% off as normal after that), 10% off for the first order for people who sign up to the newsletter as well.

Details are here.

I've been watching Tamako Market which was very good, fun and typically Kyoto Animation :)
Lupin the Third Fjiko Miine on Screen Anime which was fun (I marathoned most of their lupin stuff), currently watching the Weathering with you commentary on screen anime and hoping at some point they release it either as an mp3 or on a later blu-ray.
I'm also currently trying to run though Love Live Sunshine on Prime so i can watch the film on Sceen Anime, and really enjoying that.

@PC777 IIRC one of my friends has the complete beserk manga (not sure which version as IIRC he got into it around the time of the first anime), and he enjoyed it a lot.

Cheers Werewolf, I bought the first 10 and any that were £2.30, but the cheeky gits at Amazon have put the prices up already, now the other 25 I need are all about £7.

Will likely buy incrementally now instead. Read the first 10, the first 2 books are the Dark Souls style dark fantasy I wanted, the next few are more more typical manga with waifus, and midget and pretty boy warriors destroying much bigger opponents, but still good overall.

Also includes some extreme violence, nudity and perverse characters if that's your type of thing, but also great artwork and good story overall. I would recommend it

I assume the sold outs are just because not available yet. Definitely want to pick up the KLK boxset!

Any good black friday offers about/expected? I'd like to get some other bluray complete seasons as well such as Gurren Lagann. Picked up Madoka Magica from Amazon the other day for £15 which I thought was good.

Anime online are doing Log Horizon season 2 parts 1 and 2 Bluray for £5 each on their weekly deal:

Aye the sold outs on ATA are because they're not up yet.

The mystery box will go up on the 1st, and then the others one per day.

I don't, so far they've not said anything that I've seen but I did wonder if the order they're on the page might be the order in which they'll go up, but then realised it was just alphabetical apart from the mystery box, so no clue.

I'm probably going to be hitting F5 every few seconds from about 16:45 on day 1:p
So far out of all the mystery boxes I've had off them I've only had about one item per box that either I'm not interested in, or already have :) (although I've got about 4 from last years pair that i haven't watched yet, mainly because I'd already seen them before and I've been struggling to keep up with just the new stuff).

edit.
I forgot to say, anyone with a screen anime sub, the weathering with you commentary by Jonathan Clements if very interesting and fun:)
It's a shame it's not going to be on the blu-ray:( (and that the zavvi exclusive isn't out till next Monday - when I'll probably watch the film for the third time in ten days).
Hopefully they'll work out a way to do the commentary either as a standalone track or put it on another release at some point (it's one of the more informative ones I've heard in ages, hopefully the first of many).

If I understood it correctly everything apart from day 2 - 12 items will be listed day 1 (more than currently shown), then in the next 11 days they will have daily additions which will stay till the end (or get sold out).

Aye that's about what I got, although I got the impression there would be additional items added on top of the starting ones, so day 1 gets the mystery box and a bunch of things, then day 2 gets one of the "12 days" items but also possibly more of their normal stuff discounted, and everything stays up for order until either day 13 or they run out whichever comes first.
I'll need to sit down and rewatch the panel, as I was listening to it whilst reading the forums.

Since my last post a couple of weeks back I've got some updates :)

Finished:

ReLIFE - Was near the end on my last update. Was fairly good on the whole but not top tier.
Devilman Crybaby - This was an interesting watch, first episode in particular very quickly went to the top of my wtf list. Quite a short series at 10 episodes, but had a complete story. Worth considering if looking for something a bit different.
Fate/Zero - I had zero preconceptions at all about this one, not what the series was about, nor who any of the characters were. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and the overall flow of the story. Highly recommend this show, even without having seen any other Fate series.
5 Centimetres per second (short film) - Shinkai film fans who haven't seen this should watch it!
Akira - Never seen it before, the animation in this for it's age blows my mind. Can't believe the whole thing is hand animated. This is definitely something I want to rewatch again in the future, as truth be told I wasn't giving it all of my attention like it deserved.

Continuing:

Kaguya Sama - I completed Season 1 so far, this show is very high quality and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Also highly recommend this.
Hunter x Hunter - Reached about 20 episodes in so far. At first I thought the show was perhaps a bit childish? but the more I see the more it grows on me, and the more I want to see where it goes. It doesn't shy away from being overly violent or exploring some quite dark themes.
That time I got reincarnated as a slime - This is just plain good fun to watch. It's very light and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes the Isekai genre. I am most of the way into this now, I expect to complete this within a week.
Berserk (1997) - This is one of the oldest things I've seen, slightly newer than NGE. The age of this shows but it has a certain charm due to the age as well. About 50% of the way through this so far. Interested to see where it goes by the end of the season.

Planning to watch (short list - roughly in order probably):
  • Fate/Stay Night- Unlimited Blade Works (natural progression after Fate/Zero)
  • The Rising of the Shield Hero (will watch after That time I got reincarnated as a slime)
  • Shigurui- Death Frenzy (might do this after Berserk)
  • Violet Evergarden
  • Assassination Classroom
  • ERASED
  • A Place Further Than the Universe
  • Code Geass
I like having a bit of a mix of genres on the go, and show lengths as well. Stuff like Devilman was good because it was short I could complete it in a reasonably short time.

What is everyone else watching?

Devilman - Watched this when i was 13... yeah nightmares shortly followed LOTS of blood and gore warning.
Crying Freeman - Was a long time ago but from what i remember its a yakuza + lots of hentai type romance going on. Blood and gore warning.
AD police series - Awesome series, watched it over a few times
Armitage 3
Bubblegum crisis - The old and the new series are equally great, power rangers type girl group fights crazy cyborgs.
Gundam MS08 team - I've only ever watched this gundam series and tbh its the only one thats worth watching. Not the usual gundam type series.
Code Geass - Great Mecha series, very gripping from start to finish really recommend it to anyone who likes mecha series.
Patlabor movies 1-3 - All similar to each other if im honest, down the story. I get confused sometimes as to which film is which lol. Regardless they're all worth watching, slightly retro style anime from the 90's
Aikra - No need to mention anything, just amazing.
Wicked City - Great vampire/monster anime movie - One of the best in the genre imo.
Roujin Z - It's a funny but cool mecha anime, you have to watch it to appreciate it.

Theres a ton more i've watched but for the life of me i can't remember the names of them.

More recent watches:
Attack on titan - Good plot and twists but i couldn't get into it.
Erased - Haven't watched an anime series this good in a long time! Loved it from start to finish!
Tokyo Ghoul - Watched this with the Mrs and then she went back and watched it again! It's that good!
Dororo - Still watching this, it's okay i guess.

Started School-Live! yesterday without telling my wife what it was about, for most of the first episode she was like "WTF are we watching this cutesy slice-of-life seemingly intended for 8 year old?" :D
