The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Code Geass - Great Mecha series, very gripping from start to finish really recommend it to anyone who likes mecha series.
Erased - Haven't watched an anime series this good in a long time! Loved it from start to finish!
Tokyo Ghoul - Watched this with the Mrs and then she went back and watched it again! It's that good!
Dororo - Still watching this, it's okay i guess.

Code Geass sounds interesting but going into that one when I watch it kind of blind, I haven't seen much about it.
Erased is one my list from before still but need to get around to it :)
Tokyo Ghoul is also on my eventual list but I understand only season 1 is any good really?
Dororo from what I know is OK, is another eventual one on my list but quite far down.

Started School-Live! yesterday without telling my wife what it was about, for most of the first episode she was like "WTF are we watching this cutesy slice-of-life seemingly intended for 8 year old?" :D

Is this one that takes a proper turn or subverts expectations? If K-ON taught me anything it's that I am not a huge fan of cutesy slice of life anime really.

update my earlier post finish watching starship operator, and move onto heavy object almost at the end of disc 1 of part 2 of the collection.

Erased is one of my all time favorites, i would prioritise this over the others to watch. Don't watch the live action movie though, i found that it missed a lot of the key points and it feels really rushed.
Honestly with Code Geass you won't be disappointed, i watched it out of curiosity rather than through reviews and found it more compelling that way.
Tokyo Ghoul for me it dragged on abit but season 1 and 2 are both good, won't say anything else you just have to watch it.
Dororo opinion unchanged, its nothing particularly special imo but worth a watch.

Some other honorable mentions that i watched that shouldn't be missed.

Romance: Torodora - Literally one of the best romance and comical anime series i've watched aside from Ouran high school host club, both are amazing if you just wanna laugh and feeling abit emotional lol.

Space/Sci fi - Battleship Yamato, recently watched this series again. I forgot how good it is, its brilliant. Even the live action movie isn't half bad if you dont mind abit of japanese cheesy acting haha.

Cowboy bebop, if you don't know about this then you aren't a true anime fan.

Fighting/brutality - Baki, One of the coolest fighting anime series i've watched. It's a more recent anime but don't let that put you off, it's nothing like the others. Just pure fighting style and its full of energy. It's not like dragon ball where the characters will stand screaming for 10 minutes...

Bubblegum Crisis (original) was and still is one of my favourite anime of all times. The opening crawl and music sets it up so perfectly.

Toradora is indeed very good, as you say possibly one of the best romantic comedy series.

I'd probably add in Full Metal Panic as a great comedy/action mecha anime (and the old Patlabor TV series and OVa's were also good but they're a little dated now, and hard to get in the UK).

Baccano as a very confusing (at first) action comedy.

Perfect Blue as a very good mystery/psychological thriller.

Papriika as one of the trippiest anime movies ever.

And Tokyo Godfathers as probably the best standalone anime set around Christmas.

I started Erased as it was on my list anyway, couple of episodes in but good so far!

Will bear the rest in mind although could take a bit to circle around to things.

I need to try Baccano again as it's kind of put me off when I watched it the first time, partly because it was a confusing mess, and partly because I am not a huge fan of the setting.

Would someone fill me in, without spoiling anything, on why School-Live! has this reputation?

If it starts cutesy and turns dark I might consider it myself, but if it's just cutesy all the way then I'd probably give it a miss.

My top anime remains Monogatari still, until someone else comes along that can compete with it, but could be a while finding something to match it!

Guys just a heads up based on my manga related prior post, Amazon just put the entire Beserk series down to less than £3 each. Thank **** I didn't buy them all before that, I paid more for some but just 2 days ago the set was around £250, now just £125 for a 41 volumes of 200 pages each of the manga that inspired the Souls videogame series.

I paid more than £125 total, not much more but will see if I can get Amazon to refund the difference.

Way worth it if you're a digital reader for £125 for the complete set about 8000 pages worth.

Edit:

Result, I got Amazon to refund any I paid more for and I then rebought at just £3. The ones I bought at £2.30 are now £3, so I got them cheaper than you can get them now. Around £120 for the whole set that is £400 in book form, creator still gets paid and I get a great deal on a more convenient way of reading for me.

If you've never read it try the first sample free on Kindle app on phone, it's Dark Souls style dark fantasy done really well in first few issues, then some standard manga style but gets back to real dark fantasy later on. Includes weapons and armour designs that heavily influenced Demon/Dark Souls series with the Greatsword weapon being a clear and direct homage to Beserk.

I've just finished Love Live Sunshine season 2 (always up to date on my anime:p), and it's really enjoyable if a little formulaic, it's the sort of thing that I wouldn't watch all the time, but every now and then I like something different, especially after something darker and more serious.

I'm probably going to try on March Comes in like a Lion, or Utena next, I'm a bit tempted by Magic Knight Rayearh but that might be a little too cutesy/90's for me at the moment (although it is Clamp).

Started a new one last night on netflix, Japan Sinks. It's weirdly good, i never usually watch this style of anime apart from Laputa which has a similar drawing style. It's quite addictive and they're short episodes making it easy to watch and follow.

Evening all, since my last post a week ago, watched some more stuff :)

Finished:

ERASED - Really well made, my only problem with it is the villain was predictable quite early on. It was good all the same though even though I guessed roughly where it was going. The characters and themes explored in the show were very interesting.
That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime - This was just dumb fun and I recommend this to anyone who wants to watch something easy going, looking forward to season 2 :)
Berserk (1997) - This is a proper old school classic show, reminded me a lot of NGE style artwork as they are from a similar era. This show got better and better as it went along, although the season ending was disappointing and failed to tie itself up properly. The manga for this is still being written to this day 23 years later...

Continuing:

Kaguya Sama - Going to start season 2 soon. Will use it as relief from more serious shows.
Hunter x Hunter - Reached about 30 episodes in so far.

Planning to watch (short list - roughly in order probably. Bold = starting imminently):
  • Fate/Stay Night - Unlimited Blade Works
  • The Rising of the Shield Hero
  • Shigurui - Death Frenzy
  • Violet Evergarden
  • Assassination Classroom
  • A Place Further Than the Universe
  • Code Geass
  • DARLING in the FRANXX
  • Log Horizon
  • The Future Diary
  • The Irregular at Magic High School
Blurays:

To support some of my fav shows I am just going to buy some blurays and build a bit of a collection even if they just sit on a shelf. My budget isn't unlimited but I've begun to get some, I'm very interested to see what comes along in the MVM and ATA sales in December...

Grabbed Monogatari first 3 seasons (Bake, Nise, 2nd Season collections). Also picked up Madoka Magica and Log Horizon except Season 1 Part 1. I can't really find a good place to get Log Horizon Season 1 Part 1 BR from with the exception of Oxfam lol! If anyone can find a source for this I'm interested!

Will grab KLK and Re:Zero season sets from the ATA sales, will keep an eye on some other stuff I want as well such as Overlord, Saga of Tanya the Evil, Fate/Zero etc.

Mini collection

The reason it's still ongoing is cause most of the time it's on hiatus cause of the authors health, There's usually long delays between chapters. Love Berserk but it's really messed up at times the manga moreso than the anime.

Zavvi have a small manga blu-ray sale on at the moment https://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/offers/manga.list?sf132636261=1&pageNumber=1

The problem with a small collection of anime dvd's and blu-rays is it seems to grow...;)

Out of your planning to watch ... then Rise of the Shield Hero I "enjoyed" (it's fairly rough going) ... but Log Horizon I was super into, even with all the talking and whatnot, that's definitely my favourite in that list.

I thought with 23 years since inception and 40 volumes of over 8000 pages total it would actually be finished and that I was buying the complete collection.

So there's going to be even more of it, ah well, likely will be worth getting later down the line.

After watching the show I'm definitely interested in trying the manga, but I also hate a story that never ends, so I'll have to do a bit of research before starting it!

I'll be reasonably careful about what I get, mainly just buying the best shows that I've enjoyed the most. I'll have to limit how much I spend by necessity so initially I'll start with £3-400 :)

I've started Shield Hero, only 2 episodes in, but really "enjoying" it. It's very good so far and I'm really liking the direction it's going in.

Heavy dialogue doesn't bother me that much, Monogatari was mostly dialogue and was still great.

Shigurui was the other one I started, not sure what to make of it yet, it's got an odd art style. I'm 2 eps in but can't say that it's really grabbed me, it's quite "artsy"? but not in a fun way like it was with Monogatari.

Yep between those two I am hopeful I can get some good deals! :)
