I don’t watch anime as a hobby, just an occasional viewer, and I watched ‘Chainsaw Man’ over the last 3 days.
… I’m not too sure what to think!
The animation and imagination behind some of the action and creatures was fabulous - I love when so much effort is put into something, like all the brilliant outros and the music.
The lead, Denji, was likeable and relatable to some terrible, embarrassing iteration of myself that I try to suppress. At times, I cringed hard at it being an absolutely shameless teenage boy’s fantasy (and awkwardly sexist), but with that said I have to admit… I quite enjoyed the ridiculous yet fresh motive of ‘doing it all’ to fondle some boobs
The series did lose me a bit where it jarringly ‘escalated’ with stacking on new enemies and ridiculous powers, particularly when it’s not fully explained. I sort of ‘zone out’ when anything and everything can happen and fun things start to become ‘brooding’.
It also started to get in the territory of “that’s classified (withheld from the audience) info!!!” towards the end is an immediate stern mark down for being a tease / lame.
I’d check out series 2 if it ever came to be… but ‘keeping it light’ would suit it well
