The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

I finally finished Utena TV last night, which had a bit of a surprise, but a good ending I think.
I'm going to try and watch the film tonight

That then leaves me Arrietty for tomorrow night :D

And on a related note, I got Schoolgirl Milky Crisis through this morning, i finally got round to ordering it.

I saw the Clockwork Angloid movie last night, pretty decent althrough a huge chuck of it was a disgiused recap of the last two seasons, i'm hoping for a 3rd season to movie things along.

Tense moment when nymth almost confessed to the main guy.

:) I would argue though that whilst you do have a space problem your collection is actually tidy

I would agree there, but my pet hate is having to stack things on top of the already organised items (although my plan for my room calls for a lot more bookcases).

Was it? Trailer says Feb '12 (yes i know its march, but shhh :p )

Time to go hunting for it

That trailer would be for the US theatrical release (The secret world of Arrietty is the US title for that film).

Ello all,

Been a while since I've popped in here but just got a quick query for you guys and this has gotta be the best place to ask.

Whats the current customs limit before charges and fees?
just Received a $33 mic (£21 ish) , I thought the current customs limit was ~£30.
I've been asked to pay £12.21 in fees, £8 of which is a goddamn handling charge, gutted to say the least :(

Current customs limit is about £15 unfortunately :( Royal Mail really take the mick when it comes to handling fees!

ah ballsacks

I don't mind paying the VAT but the goddamn handling fee is almost50% of the cost of the item.

I'm in two minds wether to pick it up or just leave it and let them return to sender, sender wont get charged extra will they?

So finished watching R-15 this evening. Overall I would say that the series wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The series is about an academy where the students are "geniuses" in various subjects; maths, photography and playing the clarinet .... but the main character ... he is a genius at writing erotic novels :)

This does mean that the series floats off into his fantasies and there is a fairly high amount of fanservice at times. But overall the series isn't that bad and has some fairly nice moments particularly as it goes on.

Watched a few things over the weekend, (not including catching up with current things) ...

Ef ~A Tale of Melodies~ ... on Sentai's BD release. The second Ef series is much the same as the first. The story is rather convoluted with multiple threads but the visuals are, like with the first series, what you watch it for. The skies are awesome and different "light effects" are used throughout. The animation style changes rapidly to reflect the feelings of the characters and emotions of the scenes. This series isn't like, say, K-On! where you have everything one style all the way through and you have to interpret what you are supposed to feel from what you see the characters doing and saying ... here the very animation style and effects give pointers as well. It's a nice series and an interesting watch ... although I do wish the story was a bit clearer at times.

I also wish the subtitles were smaller ... Sentai seem to have over compensated with this title compared with Funi's BD releases and there are times when two lines of text seem to take up the best part of 25% of the screen.

Star Driver Part 2 ... on Bandai's BD release. More battling whatever they are mecha thingies the same as the first half of the series. This series looks really good on BD but doesn't really have much of a depth of plot. The characters are pretty mediocre and it does seem to fall into the trap of battle-of-the-week at times. They should have spent more time on the story, which could have been good if they had put more effort into it, instead of the dull thing they ended up with.

I'll say one thing for the Bandai release though ... they got the subtitle size just right. Two lines of subtitles was about 1/6 of the screen and were perfectly clear ... not too big like Sentai or too small like Funi.

Okami-san and Her Seven Companions ... on Funi's BD release. It's a pretty simple series about a "club" at a school who provide assistance to student with their issues. This often leads to various forms of violence. It was a reasonably amusing series with some interesting characters but I wouldn't have said it was a first tier series really. An enjoyable diversion but I've seen better within the same genre.

edit:
Also finished the final volume of the Twin Spica manga today. Interesting series following a little girl attending a high school course to train astronauts in a future Japan still recovering from the crash of a rocket on lift off which caused a large loss of life. Vertical released the story over 12 volumes and it is nice seeing how the characters grow and change as the go through the difficult course and over come the hurdles involved.

So it looks like we are going to be getting a whole proper series more of Hanasaku Iroha later in the year (source) ... yay! ... series 1 was one of my favorites of last year and I was hoping we'd get a decent amount more.

Finished Mayo Chiki the other night which was quite an amusing watch even if it was pretty formulaic at times.

Good to hear about Hanasaku Iroha :)
Just finished saki.An animé about mah-jong ,I know diddly squat about the game but from the series it looked interesting....and very dificult.Liked the story the ending was left open so hopefully for a second series.
Haven't posted for a while but have still been lurking here ;)
Just rebuilt/reinstalled windows on my main and htpc :(,raid failed on the main, then while trying to repair I lost the mbr on another drive 1TB disappeared ,got it back in the end but took ages
Still loading apps etc on the htpc (This has eaten into my animé time :(

I liked Saki when I watched it, (and also know very little about Mah-jong too :)). It is a crime that there hasn't been a direct season 2 as the ending was left to have a continuation. There is supposed to be a new series coming up for it but that seems to be based on a spin off manga rather than being a direct sequel.

My digital playback setup is nearly all Mac based now. Using Plex with a dedicated server box backended by a couple of NASes and then clients on Macs/PCs/iPad for playback. Works really nicely and handles everything well (including 10bit stuff).

Ooo thats good, I enjoyed Hanasaku Iroha the first time round.

Another, older series related, interesting bit of news is that Madman in Australia have licensed the uncut version of Cardcaptor Sakura. To be released as two sub-only collections starting in July. (source ... see under acquisitions about half way down the page)

Oh yes I'm not sure if anyone else has watched the final episode of Nisemonogatari, but it says to be continued, which is good! I hope they aren't just meaning the film and they are also doing another series.

Bummer :(
I toyed with a nas and server a while back.did not get along with it i found that the transfer speed of my nas was pitiful and of no use when loading up with multi gigabytes of data.
Just my htpc has now got 15 TB of data:eek:.Best/hard to find files are backed up onto another pc(not as frequent as I should:o)
Don`t know what I will have to do in the future as I cannot squeeze any more hdds into my htpc any more got about 8 now

That is pretty good news.
Madman seem to be getting some of the older series back, as they're also doing Patlabor from memory.

I used to store media locally in HTPCs but this meant that I was holding multiple copies (more than one HTPC I might want to use) and it was a pain keeping everything in sync each time you ripped a DVD. Also meant that having storage in the HTPCs meant they were louder and ran hotter.

Now a couple of NASes (1 QNAP and 1 Cisco SOHO (QNAP OEM'ed)) on the gigabit wired network and an old 2009 c2d Mac Mini running as a Plex server to index and provide metadata to Plex clients. Means that data is stored in one place, well it's also backed up to a Linux server as well, and if I need to add another NAS then it can be done completely transparently to the clients. The myPlex functionality also means I can access and stream anything in my library to my iPad anywhere I have access to the internet.

I've not been watchign a huge amount really, I finished Dantalian recently which was a rather wierd show to try and watch through, took me a while as I was tight for time, works been absolutely killer recently, lots of 6 day weeks and working late.

Planning to try and hit Ghost Hound, Negima?! (Shaft version) or retry Ergo Proxy (as the first episode or two didn't grab me last time) over the next few days, and I'm off next week, so hoping to be able to do some mini-marathons for the first time in a little while :)

Also need to watch Nisemonogatari now it's done, heard mixed messages, but I enjoyed Bakemonogatari even if it wasn't my favourite show, so I'll be interested to see what it's like :)
