The Aokigahara forest in Japan

Really don’t see the appeal of going here... it’s not “oooo how oooky and spooky” it’s just “wow this is really sad”. People must be so lonely they go to die there in order to find themselves an identity / belonging :(

Even more depressing most o the suicides happen at the end of the financial year, so it is just people that are too depressed about their financial situation.

catch yourself on - Auschwitz was a man made institution where people had no choice and were murdered. Aokigahara is a forest where it just so happens a relatively high number of people have committed suicide. comparing a forest to Auschwitz....jesus I've heard it all now.

Thank you for (poorly) explaining the difference between a concentration camp and a suicide hotspot. It's not relevant at all but nonetheless, thank you.

I compared a strange desire to stay the night in the Aokigahara forest with those who wish to spend the night at Auschwitz.

I made no physical comparison between Auschwitz and Aokigahara and am fully aware of the contrast of those locations.

I don't see the problem if people wish to spend the night, obviously they're doing it for the spooky night time thrill, it's no different to staying the night in a haunted house or in a graveyard

That's right, it's no different.

Whether you see a problem with it or not is opinion though. I personally think it's very strange and disrespectful.

you're welcome.

which is a ridiculous comparison.

physical comparison, no, but you compared them nonetheless. there's a world of difference in wanting to stay in a place whose sole purpose was for the extermination of people and wanting to stay in a forest where some people have committed suicide.

I personally think it's very strange and disrespectful
i'll grant you it's probably a bit strange but disrespectful? where are you getting that skewed view from?

so you're saying a whole forest should be offlimits to campers/hikers etc just because some people decided to kill themselves there?

The Op says he thinks camping is forbidden.

There are so many interesting places to go I wouldn't take the risk of upsetting somebody, especially if you are just following some internet idiocy.

Watch out for Godzilla and Godzuki.

wow and now you're comparing a grave to a forest and being snottery about it. obnoxiousness and idiocy seem to go hand in hand sometimes.

No, being respectful to a place is quite simple, you just struggle to get your head around it evidently.

Respect has nothing to do with snobbery or obnoxious.

And it’s not just a forest, it’s a forest where people go to suicide, that’s the reason OP wants to go and that’s what the place is famous for, he isn’t going there because it’s a forest, he’s going there if it’s reputation of the suicides not to pay respects to the dead but to get a kick out of it.

That’s disrespectful.

How hard is that to understand.
