The Ascent

I got about 4 hours in then got bored and haven't played it for over a week. Just found it a bit monotonous.

Also not a fan of the way you get randomly swarmed from all directions with enemies suddenly just spawning and crawling up right behind you out of nowhere. It makes trying to use cover pointless.

Yes I tried to like it too but gave up, maybe it's my old age but I was really struggling to aim shots properly with my controller. Perhaps mouse/keyboard is a better option?

I finished it with a controller and didn't have much of a problem. Few boss fights had to retry few times, which is normal.
Played on normal difficulty.

Bit late getting into this, but picked this up over the weekend while it was on sale, only played about an hour, but enjoying it so far, but did encounter a strange performance issue.

When enabling ray tracing, I end up with really bad input lag, even though my framerate is still relatively high (it drops quite a bit, but is still in the 60s).

I'm running on an rx6800, so obviously not as strong as an Nvidia GPU at raytracing, but it's so bad that it makes it unplayable. I could understand if my framerate was dropping, but this just seems very strange - any suggestions on things to try? (Other than obviously "turn off raytracing" which is what I did to actually play for a bit)

If you want better RT performance do this (console commands with unreal unlocker):

r.RayTracing.Reflections.Hybrid 1
r.RayTracing.Reflections.ScreenPercentage 60
r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness 0.2

I can get 60 fps in world combat at 50% of 4K (which looks quite decent as it is using TAAU), also with an RX 6800. In town framerate won't be as good or stable but it's not a combat area, so it's fine.

But btw, if your frame counter says 60 fps but it doesn't feel good then switch to frametime + graph, it will be much more accurate. The in-built overlay from AMD isn't very good (or accurate), try CapframeX instead.

Full changes:
Code:
[/Script/Engine.RendererSettings]
r.TemporalAA.Upsampling 1
r.ScreenPercentage 50

[SystemSettings]
r.RayTracing.Reflections.Hybrid 1
r.RayTracing.Reflections.ScreenPercentage 60
r.RayTracing.Reflections.MaxRoughness 0.2
r.Streaming.FullyLoadUsedTextures 1
r.Streaming.HLODStrategy 2

r.RayTracing.GlobalIllumination.ScreenPercentage 50
r.RayTracing.GlobalIllumination.SamplesPerPixel 4

Can't remember if the GI changes did anything though, I played around with all the commands a lot, but the other ones 100% do work.

Cheers, didn't get a chance to do the tweaks last night, but I did determine what the issue was...

When I turned RT on, my FPS wasn't dropping into the 60s... it was in the low 20s!

However I was using the FPS counter on my monitor, so it must have been displaying a 3x multiple of the actual FPS. When I used the Steam FPS counter it showed the actual framerate. So I'll give up with the whole RT idea for now - the game still looks great without :)

Got it in the sale as well although I did play it on gamepass before, I completed the main game and am now doing the cyber heist dlc. Rocking the dealbreaker upgraded to max + lock on + lifesteal the tougher enemies just melt while using lockon.

Is it worth getting the heist?
I picked up the DLC for under a tenner, so far its alright. The new areas looks just as pleasing to the eye as the main game. I haven't played through it much yet though but because it was cheap and on sale decided to add it to my basket.
