**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

any idea if the board is suitable for 128x4 (High Density) ram chips?
looking at buying 2x 1gb chips, with the ones i want being classed as the high density type (which i know can cause problems on some boards)

One last question :D

How is this board in terms of performance, I mean compared to the Nforce 4's?

I have noticed that OcUK sells 3 types of Asrock boards, but what are the main differences between all 3? I take it that the most expensive one overclocks best, has full bandwidth PCIE slots, as well as AGP and so on?

Only one (1) has an AGP slot  :D

Some benchies from here

This is probably going to sound really cheeky, but it seems people posting in here know a lot about this motherboard.. so...

I was wondering if anyone could write out step by step instructions of what i need to do first? I've just bought this motherboard and plan to use my AGP and overclock the cpu a little.

Cheers :D

Cheers, so I just leave the option at 100?
I'm not entirely sure. I've forgotten and I'm using a modified 1.20 BIOS, so who knows if it's the same as the one you're using?

I'm almost sure you do. I think that the busses are set as AGP being 2/3rds of PCI-E and PCI being 1/3rd of PCI-E, whatever PCI-E is set to. With sync, PCI-E is 1/2 HTT base speed. With async, PCI-E is whatever you set it to. If my memory is right, then 100MHz would be right for that setting.

Step by step instructions for what? Installing the board in the case and making the connections? BIOS settings (everything should work with the default BIOS settings)? Getting a SATA2 HDD to work as a SATA2 HDD (don't ask me, mine only works if I make it fake being an IDE drive :) )?

Yeah 100MHz it is, I checked the speeds at 100 with ClockGen and they are locked at 66 and 33 so all fine :)

right, i think my 3D mark scores are low, so i am looking at the bios settings, my Abit AV8 seems so different compared to this even though, both are SKT 939 boards!

anyway, can people post what bios setting your using, and then maybe the first poster could edit is first post to have the setting etc, be handy for everyone

thanks

My spec :

A64 3000+ Venice
Ati Radeon X800 XTPE (AGP)
2* 1Gb Running in DUAL mode

I have just lost 24 hours of my life with this board, what a piece of junk.

No matter what I do it won;t let me install a video driver without going into black screen mode, all it ever seems to bleat about is the fact it can't install the Video Controller(VGA Compatible), I have installed every time of driver i can find, unified, solo's , multiple nvidia's and all same result, second i try to install proper graphic driver it goes nuts and it never loses the 'missing Video COntroller' box.

All help appreciated, this is driving me insane

What GFX card do u have ?
i got this board at the weekend, installed it all fine

this is what i did :

sata 2 drive plugged in
install windows XP Pro
once installed, load the LAN driver from the CD
then go online to asrock website
download the AGP driver (assuming your using an AGP card) and also download .net framework 1.1
install both of theose, reboot
install GFX card drivers and reboot

also what bios setting do u have ? AGPP first ? or PCIe ?

Are you using an AGP card? make sure you install the AGP driver.

I am using AGP, clean built xp home, loaded agp driver, lan driver etc.

Is the message telling me I need to install nvidia drivers or the ULI ones? (Havent done .net framework as yet, do I have to for drivers?)

Card is 6800gt goes like hell version

Use the 'AGP P2P deep fifo'' option in the bios (set it to enabled, not auto). The option is needed for nVidia cards that use an AGP bridge chip on the card, and I'm betting yours does.

MadMatty and HoHum, my next pint/s will be raised in both your honour, this absolute nightmate appears to be drawing to a close thanks to your advice3s.

You both rock!

What are people currently finding is the best bios to use on this board? Im still currently using OCW1 Bios.

I tried the official 2.10 yesterday and I couldn't even get into Windows with everything stock....I was amazed....any others to try from 1.60 and onwards?
