Guys,

CPU temps seem to have shot through the roof recently, now I understand its Summer ;) but its at around 45-47c, have put in 2 more fans but its only gone down to 42c.

I touched the northbridge heatsink and it was boiling, is anyone elses really hot??

Trying to think what I can do about it, I've now got 4 case fans to increase airflow but its not going directly over the heatsink.

Problem is the heatsink is directly under the cpu which I imagine is causing the rise in temps.

All other sensors are okish for the ambient temp.

From what I've read the Northbridge heatsink is always roasting, you could always try one of those Zalman NB HS's on it but I don't think it's going to cause you a problem.

Well, Ive got a spare Zalman northbridge, but its still going to have the heat going up to the cpu.

Daft design, but I guess if its not causing instability (yet) then I can live with it.

As long as other peoples are the same then im not too fussed, shame ive had to put it all back to stock due to the weather :(

Cheers for the reply :)

Does anyone know what the vdimm voltage settings in the bios equate to? If memory serves me (at work at mo) the options are auto, normal & high. What are these settings in volts?

using 1.90 bios if that makes a difference.

Does anyone know how to lock (pci) this board so i can get a higher clock on my cpu? Tried reading through this thread, got bored by about page 13
on latest BIOS version btw

EDIT: No worries, i'd already done it with the PCI async thingy  noobs eh!

Who's done the volt mod?

I currently have a 3000 Venice, at 2.5ghz (700mhz increase) perfectly stable mem at 1T, 3-3-3-8 = 226mhz -Cas wont go to 2.5

Erm, shall I do the volt mod for the cpu? Think it will go any higher also if I remember correctly, once i do the volt mod, i can still go to 1.450v in the bios if wanted correct? Its a certain voltage which is "cracked" to 1.55v?
You should be able to still choose 1.45V. If you do the VID4 mod you will be able to choose anything in between 1.175V and 1.55V

I would only do the volt mod if you are prepared to risk breaking the board. You shouldn't do as it is quite easy to do but there is still a risk.

I'm currently running 1Gb memory happily at 1T on this board using - GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5 (GE1GB3200BHDC) (MY-005-GL)

I'd like to run 2Gb or more with WinXP Pro. Is it posible to run more than 2Gb ?

Should I just get myself another 1Gb kit as above, or would I be better to purchase a 2Gb pair ?

more will work, yes

best to have only 2 chips, so 2 * 1Gb's or even 2 * 2Gb if u want 4Gb's

AFAIK you would be better off getting a 2x1Gb pair, as then you should be able to run 1T no probs, there are some issues when using all four slots from time to time from what i have read on these forums, so just for peace of mind you would be better off getting the 2 stick solution

I don't think you will be able to run at 1T with 2x1Gb in this mobo :o

What is good ram to get for this motherboard? a 2x1gb kit... I'm using old mushkin level 1 ram at the moment that wont let my pc boot without using a horrible divider ( cpu-z says its running at a FSB:DRAM ratio of 'CPU/20' currently)

I have a good stepping Opteron 146 that i'd like to overclock, so I presume i'd need ram that can do a bit more than the usual DDR speed of 400mhz?

Just wondering what'd be good compatible ram I could use to ramp my Opteron up.

I am having some problems with my graphics card, the card works fine I have tested it in another rig, its an AGP 7800 GS, anyway I had installed it on this mobo and all was working fine, ran 3dmark etc and some games all fine, then I continued to install all my programmes, once finished went to play a game and no 3d output could just hear the game running, 3dmark would not run either.

Since the card is fully working then I am guessing its an issue with the mobo? I have un-installed the AGP driver and re-installed, same for the Nvidia drivers but still no joy. No changes made in the bios previous to it working fine.

Anyone any idea what I can try? I dont mind re-installing Windows but would rather know why this has happened, or maybe the mobo is not working right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i can't really help but it sounds to me that it is not the motherboard, if it was working fine , then you tried to install programs, then one of them programs may be at fault.

I suggest reinstalling again and install one program at a time, and re try 3D mark and a game. Hopefully that way you will find out which program is causing you a problem.

good luck

Which version of windows?

Does this sound like it? :Link

Also check out the link I posted at the end of that thread. Even if you don't have Windows x64, the advice in the other forum might be relevant regarding reinstalling drivers.

Its Windows XP Home 32 bit, and yes sounds exactly what happens to me, I will try as suggested in those links, I did try and update the AGP driver using the one on the website so I guess thats the problem? :(

maybe a fresh install will be best

I did ask this earlier but had no response, what memory (type/make) are people having the best results for in this board as that is the last thing i need to buy to complete the build..thanks in advance.
