Has anyone else had theirs die on them?

Mine seems to have die on me after 1 year :o

Oh no !

Mine is 18 months old now and has been running 24/7 all that time (apart from periodic de-dusting of the case and fans etc when it needs to be turned off).
It has run at stock speed for most of this time, so maybe that's a factor

What factors can cause a MB to just stop working?

Capacitors degrade, repeated heating and cooling of PCB tracks can cause them to crack over time, you might have knocked something and inadvertantly stressed a motherboard mounting. A dust build-up on a surface-mount component could have built-up a high resistance and fused something. Your PSU could have spiked and blown a fuse - many, many things cause Motherboards to fail.

I treated it with care :(

Did you take it out every week and wash it? Then brush it down? Then give it handfuls of oats and maybe an apple on it's birthday? Or did you leave it in the case where dust gathered on it and slowly blocked the cooling of the heatsinks? :p

You can't really 'care' for a motherboard except for blowing the dust off it regularly and all things have a finite life, so be happy for it and get another one. If it's still under guarantee then RMA it as S939 stuff is worth good money now it's becoming rarer.

I got one in a PC that I made for my parents with a 3000+...that is still going strong running folding@home 24/7, never misses a beat and has had the same windows install through a mobo change since august 2002 I think.

Thanks for the reply, i think that the SATA 1 drive will work from what i have read, i guess i should just try it out myself :)

Also, how does RAID perform with this mobo? I have heard some reports that running in RAID has a lot of CPU utilisation, are there any forumers running RAID 0 here? if so, how is the performance?

Thanks :)

I'm running RAID-0 on 2 250GB seagate 7200.9 sataII drives (on the sataI ports) and it;s fine. Average about 90mb/s when I first installed them, and RAID-0 doesn't really need much processing. It's RAID-5 that will cripple you if you don't have a full on RAID controller with it's own CPU etc. PM or IM me if you want to talk about particulars or have me send you screen shots of performance graphs etc.

Hi All

I am having some trouble with an Optiarc AD-7170 SATA I just bought and installed in my Asrock 939dual-sata2. My system just seems to lock-up when burning a DVD, Needing a reset. CD's work fine but DVD's completely lock it up, Could be during simulation, burning or even verification. I have a Seagate Barracuda 320GB sata drive on my SATAII connector which when i remove seems to reduce the lock-up to a ramdom occurance rather than every time I burn. System runs fine with the Optiarc removed.

Recently re-installed XP pro SP2, All drivers upto date, No exclamation marks in device manager and no hints in event viewer, Memtest run for over 3 hours with no problems.

Does anybody have any ideas? I'm at a loss.

Thanks in advance

Does it do it with games too?

If so, it's the SATA2 JMicron Controller.

Plug the hard drive into the SATA1 controller and it should work perfectly.

Hi 2Thumbs, thanx for your input.

I have tryed with the sata2 disabled and HDD removed completely and it still happens. If anything it seems slightly better with the optiarc connected to the jmicron sata2 connector but i still get the lock-ups.

Tested the optiarc in a friends pc and it worked fine so its gotta be my mobo. I have been given a IDE to SATA converter to try, not ideal but if it works it'll do till my next upgrade. At least i know I dont have to rma the drive...

Cheers

Anyone got Cool 'n' Quiet working in Vista with this mobo?

Yes thanks, I am running Vista Home Basic on my 939Ds2, with Bios 2.31b.

BUT... CNQ must be ENABLED in the bios, AUTO Does not work.

Also my Bios 2.31b has been modded for a Slic table :D

Cheers, how are you finding them, any better then the official ones?

I'm on 2.20 at the moment but getting cold boot issues with a sata 2 drive.

I personally had no issues on the Official 2.31b, The modded version is as stable just adds a Slic table for ilicit purposes.
