**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

PSU

I have been running one of these mobo's with Venice 3200, 2 Gig momory and ATI 800 PE (all overclocked). It works fine with an Antec Truepower 380 (from my Sonata case) and the cheapest 500Watt form a certain "E" tailer (get it? I'm not proud). I do remember having the devils own problems getting the BIOS setting right at first although this thread and others helped a lot! :)

I'm going to be getting this board very soon, and also going for the Opteron 144, only because it is the only one in stock, and its cheap.

should look elsewhere then, i got a 146 for 115 on my doorstep. wont need over 300fsb to get 3ghz on it either.

help with bios memory settings please

hi chaps

bit of a long winded post, please bear with me!
I have had a few problems with my system, weird crashes in office 2003. Getting lots of stop errors, so i decided to play around with my memory settings in the asrock bios 1.5.

first setting were:

overclock mode-auto
memory clock-200mhz
flexibility option-enabled

cpu-z result number 1

second settings

same as above but flexibility disabled

cpu-z result number 2

third settings

oveclock mode-auto
memory clock-auto
flex option-enabled

cpu-z result number 3

as you can see i don't have the most amazing ram but i thought my system would run stable with memory timing on 200, but it is in settings 2 that I run into stability problems, not so much gaming or other things but with office 2003.

anyway, any advice would be great.
Thanks guys, look forward to your response.

Okay, I've ordered one of these and should be here in a few days. One quick question.

What's the onboard sound like? I have either that or my old SB Audigy 1 card. Should I bother installing it, or just using the onboard?

That's really great news, thanks for that post !
Seems the couriers have a backlog at the moment, my board arrives tomorrow hopefully. I'll report back here when the machine is built

I find the onboard sound fine, no problems a yet, I only have 2 speakers and a woofer + i use headset + mic but so far no probs.
hth
cheers

My sound is fine using headphones but I get crackles and noise from the hard drive and mouse when it's in 6 channel mode using the 5.1 speakers.

Truepower, or Truepower 2? It seems that ATX 2.0 (Truepower 2) or better is essential for this mobo, anything else and it won't boot.

TruePower, it boots everytime.

I was going to upgrade my system to this motherboard with a opteron 144 using a Antec SmartPower 400W psu (not ATX 2), would this be compatible.

cooler question for this board?

just thought i'd ask what are you guys using to cool your cpu? i have ordered one of these boards and im gonna put an oppy 144, but didn't want a mare of a time fitting a cooler to it but wanted good cooling performance?
sorry to hijack this thread but might be useful to others with the same question.

Cheers

thats odd, have a page of posts gone missing?
anyway
i did the vcore silver paint mod and now have bios reading 1.150v and cpuz reading 1.56v :)
i am using ocwbeta3 and am now stable at 274x10 with my memory running on the ddr333 5/6 divider at 2.5,3,3,8 1T

i am happy to wait until another tweaked bios appears without the htt lock as i had probs with the unlocked beta1 and beta2 bioses
:)

Good news to report so far from me - built my rig last night. It booted straight up with my Antec Truepower 430 as I thought it would. Flashed stright to the latest 1.50 BIOS and it booted up normally after that too. Installed the ULI integrated drivers and XP Home SP2, and all is well. Next up is to install Xp Pro x64 in dual boot configuration, and try overclocking as I'm just at stock at the moment. Also to try 1T timings as I thought I'd leave it at 2T initially to avoid any issues.

Rig is:

Opteron 144
2GB Corsair Value Select RAM
Radeon 9500 Pro AGP
160GB SATA1 Maxtor drive

I don't want to overclock too agressively, I'd be happy with 2.2 or may go as far as 2.4

Well done. See, ignore the doom merchants. I reckon that 2.2Ghz will be easy to obtain and 2.4Ghz shouldn't be too much of a problem either.

I'd be interested in the dual boot to XP64 as I'm toying with the idea myself.
Let me know how you get on.

My kit should be arriving today with my mobo + opteron 144. The Arctic Freezer 64 I hope will do me fine for 2.4ghz or more.

I was thinking of dual booting xp64 too as it happens. I want to see if it's any better for some of my games. I have 120 days to try it, so plenty time!

I've just installed on of these boards with and Opteron 144 and I've got an unusual problem, hope someone can help.

After I managed to get this system up and running(wouldn't post, cleared CMOS, then it wouldn't see my drives!)I tried to run Aquamark but it runs through the test and when the score screen should come up, I get this:

Now, I thought these type of errors were associated with memory problems, so I've taken my matched sticks of Crucial pc3200 RAM out and tried them on their own, in different slots singley, and together, and tried another stick of spare generic RAM I've got, but every time I get this error message.

I've tried different timings(T1 and T2) and ran my memory at different speeds(166, 133)and I still get the error message. I've even set the VDIMM from Auto to high, still no go.

Prior to all this I had ran Memtest for 50 passes(took just under 3 hours)and my memory passed. I can also run 3dmark 03 and 05 and don't get any errors.

As a last resort, I've done another clean install of XP and only loaded the Lan, AGP and ATI graphics driver; but even with a clean system, Aquamark crashes.

Anyone got any suggestions please, because with all the hassles I had getting this system just to boot up, this problem is driving me mental

Aquamark on a x64 CPU needs a DLL replacing in the Aquamark folder.

Get a copy here.

Ns400r, you're a star  It ran no problems with the replacement dll.

With the error message I was getting I was assuming the worst! I thought either my m/b was duff, or, all three sticks of RAM I have were duff.

Cheers, dagwoood.

O.k, some other anomalies I've noticed and wandered whether they were normal for this board.

If I use a utility that accesses the sensors, i.e.Speedfan or Everest, they will sometimes hang and I get the XP error message that the program isn't responding. This problem seems to go away if I set my memory to T2. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Also, when I was trying to cure my Aquamark problem, I changed my BIOS from v1.2 to the official v1.5. I've since changed it back to v1.2, but I wandered what BIOS version, official or otherwise, is classed as the most stable?

I obviously want my system stable before I start to o/c my CPU and sometimes, especially if I'm restarting my system after being in dos(to use Acronis TI), my system wont post(seem familiar :) ) and just hangs and I have to do a hard restart.

Cheers, dagwoood.
