**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

Just to confirm, if the AUX connector (2 yellow and 2 black wire) is unplugged the system starts all the fans running along with the drives but won't post.

yes. however, Antec Smartpower 2.0 (and possibly Truepower 2.0) PSU's are failing to get the ASRock board to POST, even with the Aux 12V plugged in. the board 'acts' as if it is missing the Aux connector (ie. fans spin but no POST) - however my multimeter says 12V is present on both lines when the board is powered up.

Not had a problem with mine and I'm running an Antec TruePower430, model # true430p, ATX12V 2.03 compliant (all from the box).

Hi all, just recieved an opty 144 CABNE 0545 and this mobo for a measely sum of £140!!

my stable OC on stock volts was 2.52Ghz, HTT @ 280 and RAM on 133MHz (divider 4/6 - is that correct?). using the beta2 bios and a freezer 64 temps are idle - 31C , load - 39C.

i think im going to keep it at stock volts - i ran super pi at higher clocks and volts and it would cause an error after a few mins, so its probably not stable. i dont know if its a fault with the chip or the board, but im sure this chip could go further in a better mobo.

Anyway, i now want to tweak up the RAM, better timings etc for better performance, but i have no idea what im doing! what settings in the bios should i use etc, and programs to test to ensure my system is stable? This is my first trip into 64 bit processors so im a bit out of my depth. Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT- RAM is Geil Value 512x2 DDR3200 rated at 2.5-6-3-3.

oh yeh nearly forgot, just like to say thanks to topitoff from these forums, he was a great help in helping me OC on this mobo, so i just wanted to say a big thanks to him!

thanks for the mention.

If you want to find out what is limiting the OC; mobo or cpu I would suggest removing the cpu from the equation.
This is done by reducing the CPU multiplier from x9 to x8 or x7 and then upping the HTT, it would also be usefull to put the memory divider on 100 so this is also well out of the equation too. This will reduce the GHz of the cpu which we know does 2.5gig OK. If raising the HTT again causes instability it's then likely to be the mobo.

If the RAM is running at the timings you have posted at 2T you might like to try 1T; use memtest to test as this change will have a reasonable effect on memory performance.

A mate of mine is going to buy this board soon, he said that when the M2 socket comes out that there will be a daughter board card to allow you to use the new socket? Is this true or bulls**t?

Its true but theres a number of things to take into account: 1) ddr2 memory, will they somehow bridge backwards compatability or will they put the slots onto the daughter. 2) performance will prolly be poorer compared to other boards and 3) prolly wont be able to get a decent heatsink on it because of the weight on the expansion port.

Theres really not much known at the moment though so that's all speculation. But they did mention that there will be an "upgrade" M2 part for the board. (You can see this on their website)

I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that the daughter board will incorporate slots for DDR2.......gonna be a BIG expansion board if so! :)

Now ive secured an opty 146 I have ordered this board.

Got to be the best skinflint/ hedge your bets mobo in history! :D

Just a quick question. My opteron 146 on this motherboard (OC @ 2.7ghz) idles at 34*c / 93*f. Is that pretty normal ? ( I have a Artic Freezer Pro fitted) Just curious as to what the idle is normally on this CPU.

thank you

I changed it to 1T and memtest was fine, ran it for two hours or so and no errors.timings were 2.5-3-3-6. When i lower timings it doesn't post. How should i change the other bios options to improve performance? in the chipset config shall i change the width to 16 bit or something or just leave it all on auto? Not really sure what all the bios options mean.WHat about bank interleave, flexibilty,DRAM idle timer, bank interleave etc etc..?

ok im planning to order this board from a competitor tomarow and an opty 144 from my fav ocuk and i have one last question beffor i do and that is does this board require a -5v line?

Quick Q for the bios experts on this mobo. ;)

Can I assume that the beta bios' need to be flashed from floppy rather than windows?

Cheers. :)

I flashed using a floppy. dont think you can using windows.

which ram slots do you use?
i had been using the 2 closest to the processor, but swapped sticks and for accessibility used the outer 2 slots - since then i have had random freezes at speeds the same memory didn't blink at when it was in the other slots

looks like i will have to try them in the orig 2 slots again
