**The ASrock 939dual-SATA2 (ULi M1695) thread**

Hello all, have been lurking a while. Finally upgraded my box with one of these motherboards and an DH-E6 venice 3000+ at the weekend.

So far, very pleased. My old motherboard (or maybe CPU) had become nightmarishly unstable. It was one of the pre-400fsb nforce 2s, an MSI K7N2G-L. I'd been running it with an XP3200+. It had been fine for a few months but I think the motherboard just wouldn't take it in the longer term. I ended up having to run the CPU at XP2500+ speeds just to get something approaching stability.

Anyway, have been running everything at stock so far. It's rock stable and I'm very pleased. All my directx games used to crash regularly but no crashes so far. Prime 95, looped 3dmark01 and media player looping through all my mp3s overnight didn't cause any problems either. A few things that I didn't realise were hardware problems are now fine (e.g. the KotOR2 patching process, which always used to freeze on me, now works).

Just one query: I'm getting a score of about 3000 in 3dmark 05. Is that normal for my rig? I think I used used to get about 3500 in the old setup but it's been a while since I ran it.. I'm sure it's not the AGP drivers, as there's no problem with framerates in games. Specs are below (old rig was as below but with XP3200+@XP2500+, MSI K7N2G-L and 2x512 Crucial single sided).

ASROCK 939dual SATA2
A64 3000+ DH-E6 'venice' bios rev. 1.2
Inno3D 6600GT AGP 128mb
2GB RAM (2 x 512mb single sided Crucial PC3200 + 2x512mb double sided Crucial PC3200)
Audigy 2
Hiper Type R 480w psu
WinXP Pro SP2

I have just got this mobo and the Thermaltake Soprano case. The little wire for the Power LED that connects into system panel header (bottom right of the board). There is 3 holes on the connecter end of the wire, but according to the motherboard book there should only be 2, and there is only 2 free pins left on the system panel.

How should this wire be connected up?

I have same board and case,

What i did was just get a pin and pull one of the PINS out of the socket from the case wiring and put in so to make it that the pins are next to each other and all works fine.

Yes you have a 3 pin plug in your hand from the case that needs to go in the 2 pin motherboard, so like i said, use a pin to pull one out and refit it in the next hole.
Hope this makes sense

sure i read somewhere the cd needed to be a cd-rw for a bios flash, or does a cd-r work ok ?

Nope, it has to be a CD drive that your system supports.

Make a bootable CD with the files on that your need to complete the flash (Asrflash, newbios.rom) and your all set.

Google "bootable CD" or similar, it's simple.

So! All that faffing around with floppies and I could have been using a CD? I must try this, then I can finally use my floppy drive for target practice! :)

@Uriel
Firstly, Welcome to the OcUK forums!! :)

As to your 3dMark05 speed, yours looks about right due to the 6600 graphics card you have. 3DM05 is more dependent on GPU, and although a better CPU should increase your score the main determinant is the GPU. You can always compare your speed by using the Orb over at futuremark.com

Wow dude so you're saying I take the little wire, and basically rip it apart and put the end in the hole next to it, then fit it to the mobo, with the edge of the connector not connected to anything? Seems kinda risky, why doesn't it fit in the first place???

yeah, thats what i did too for my Sonata II case. its not hard, you just use something small and sharp like a pocketknife to gently lever up the little plastic retaining clip holding the pin into the plug, withdraw wire and pin, insert into the next hole over till it clicks into place, all done. just check in the manual which wire you need to move over in order to have the connector hanging over the correct side. if done carefully you will break nothing.

Has anybody got a Scythe Ninja fiitted to their 939Dual-SATA2? Any problems/difficulties?

Possible problems with the lack of backplate?

I've finally got my system up running. The 450w PSU failed to work with my asrock-dual so had to buy a Hiper 580w.

Its working a treat at the moment, just been playing a bit of the COD2 ;)

Opteron 146
2gb Geil Value
X850 XT!

loving it!

Hmm, Probably need to check the Ninja comes with a back plate.

Was the PSU fautly? Why wouldn't it work with the Asrock-Dual?

My system is running so well now, cant believe it costs only £40- AGP, pci-e when i upgrade and M2 too!! Has my opty running sweet @ 2.5GHz too!!Just cant beleive it, ONLY £40!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me about it !!
I'm running a conservative overclock of 2250 on my Opteron 144, 250FSB and 5/6 RAM divider with 2GB Corsair value RAM. Great system, 100% rock solid, and will take the PCI-E card in future (currently Radeon 9500Pro AGP). Stock 1.50 BIOS

Sensational value, must rank as the best £40 I've spent in a very long time.

My current system is as follows;

MSI 6712 mobo
Athlon XP2600+
1GB RAM 2700
GEFORCE 6600GT
Antec 380w PSU
120gb HDD (IDE)

I am considering getting one of these mobos as well as an opteron 144, and 512mb more of 3200 RAM so I can run dual channel at that speed. Would I dectect a big increase in my games? I play all the latest titles like COD 2, FEAR and The Movies, and at the moment they play OK on near high setting at 1024x768, but do get a little stuttery. I also dont know a lot about mobos, so would there be anything stopping me, in say 6-10 months time, buying a new SATA HDD for games installation to supplement my existing drive, and getting a PC-I graphics card, for example a 6800GS, or 7800GTX?

Not sure really, someone said it was something to do with a certail -5v rail or something?

But yeah a few people on the ocw forums said they had problems with that particular PSU and this mobo :(

But at least its up and running now!
