Cool'n'Quiet: Disabled

what is cool n quiet anyhow ? mine is enable, but have not idea what it does

It lets the motherboard control the speed of the cpu, volts, and the fan speed so that when the computers doing nothing it slows everything down.

Understood, but what then controls the fan speeds, volts etc ? just im thinking if it is enabled then the motherboard controls it, but if you disable it, what controls it ? or do you guys download a program to control it ?

I use Everest to monitor my temps, but as for fan speeds, well cpu is usually around 1350 rpm idle opteron 146 @ 2.7ghz 29/30*c ( Couple hours BF2 about 40*c)
and
chassis rps 2000/2100 rpm, @ 23*c

One other thing, on my ssoprano case, I have 3 fans, one front, one back and one side, now the front one has the yellow wire connectied to the motherboard, but the back fan i cant connect to the motherboard as there is only one fan header on the motherboard unless i am missing something ? as the other one has of course been taken up with the heatsink fan thats connected to the cpu fan header.

The side fan has no yellow wire.

So, whould i leave as is, or how do you guys connect more than 1 yellow fan controller to the motherboard, and then how on earth do you control rpm's ?

sorry to sound a bit thick, slowly learning as the days pass more about pc's

cheers

PS@ after i OC my opteron 146 (2.7ghz) i left the vcore at auto in bios which runs about 1.44v, should i leave this at 1.44 (AUTO) or do you guys lower it or what ??

Thanks

Unless you;re running a fan controller or something like speed fan the fans stay at full speed.

cool and quiet disabled is better as it has been known to cause instability in game.

if the side fan is missing the wire then i dont think its rpm can be monitored.

best bet if you want control is to have a look at the fan controllers that slot into the front of the case, or have a look at the zalman fan mates.

well, my housemate tells me that my asrock mobo just got delivered along with a 3700+ SD with either the kab2e or kab3e stepping.

should hopefully make a nice difference to my barton-m 2500+

How do I increase the Vcore on this motherboard? I flashed it with the newest 1.5 bios, but I still can't adjust Vcore over 1.4V. I have an x2 3800+, but I can't get it much over 2.5ghz with stock Vcore :( . I want it higher. I got a chilly scythe ninja cooler, so it doesn't go beyond 40c load.

Switch it to manual,

we go to ocw for a bios update and details on an easy vcore mod, come back and then put more volts through it ;)

I bought one of these boards last week :)
Only problem i have is, i installed Windows 64 on my second harddrive. Then desided to install it on a partition on my C:drive, and delete the install on my second drive.
Now everthing is working great :)
Except when i boot i am being asked what operating system to us. (Xp Or Xp X64)
How do i stop this boot screen. Or edit it as it still think i have a copy installed that is not there.
Your help on this matter. As im stumped

You need to edit a file on the root of the master boot drive called boot.ini I think and delete entries that refer to the old os. Do soon research on google about it I think that might help.

In xp its under system properties and startup and recovery, click the edit button and delete the line with the OS you dont want.

But be carefull your deleteing the right thing.

Thanks, now you know on pagefile, what should that be at, mine is at 1536mb with 1GB ram (2x512) is that correct >?/ I dont know what pagefile is, nor what it does etc

pagefile is your virtual memory, Windows uses virtual memory from the hard drive to free physical memory for other uses, I didn't know about this until I became a PC technician! It only seems to be a problem in systems with low amount of memory I always set it to System Managed Size but you have to remember to click the set button to apply the change. Further information here :

as per cody, ive seen a few things that recommend letting the system handle it.

1536 is a bout right for 1gb, generally taken as 1.5 times ya memory iirc.

i dont know why people keep saying this as it is not the right way to do it, if you use that method and you only have 128mb of ram then your pagefile will only be 384mb and where is the benefit in that? the best method for setting pagefile it to make your phisical ram and pagefile equal to 2 gb so say you have 1gb of ram you set 1gb for your pagefile.

I've just taken delivery of my 146 and this m/b.

Now.. I'm gonna probably get a SL 120 to cool the 146.. will this fit?
Looking at the board I will have to remove the mounting bracket on the board.. will the four holes that remain be good enought to bolt the unit down?
This is presuming that this cooler requires boling down like the SP-97 that I currently have lol.
Also.. does it require a backplate?
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)
