I always load the following drivers:

Chipset (chipset)
MEI (chipset)
Intel LAN (lan)
IRST (sata)
Bluetooth

You may need Audio when not using a soundcard and Asmedia SATA if using that controller.

Latest drivers:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_V_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/

To find bios version from windows run "Command Prompt" then enter "SYSTEMINFO" then click "Enter". It will be in the list.

You can always go into the bios to find the version by pressing the Delete key when the pc starts to boot.

If you are below bios 1701 then I would update.

cheers im on bios 1701, gonna stick to that

You know the last pcie slot on this mobo, the last red slot on the bottom, i think its not working, i have connected sound cards, wifi cards gpu, s and no hardware is recognised on that slot, place the hardware anywhere else and it works perfectly

the only thing is that the lights light up on the hardware, so power is getting there but theres no communication

I also checked the mobo to see if it was switched of, all the 4 white switches are on, Im one click away from returning this board but im thinking may its deactivated?

so im thinking its dead or deactivated

ps, no bent cpu pins, cpu fitted in perfectly

EDIT:

Did you guys know that if you USE A 5820K on a Asus Rampage Extreme, THEN the last lane identified as PCIEx8_4 which is the last lane in the bottom, is DISABLED ? yes sir, that is why I have been scratching my balls for the last 2 hours until 3am to discover why my shizz was not working on that lane.

Return the board or get a 5930K

It's stated a number of times in the manual. ;)
Personally, I'd upgrade the CPU as that will give you more PCI lanes on any motherboard - it's a great board.

This - way to go me thinks. Great board as long as you get a good one.

yeah but the lane is restricted just on a asus rampage extreme board, no other board, i e gigabyte ect have lane restrictions for a 580k cpu, you can use all the lanes no problem.

I mean there must be a way to activate the last lane right?

coz the last lane is blocked on a 5820k to restrict 4 way sli, i just want to use it for a sound/wifi card, now i cant use a daughterboard from the zxr

Stick teh 1x Sound card in the small PCI X1 slot. This is lanes from chipset so CPU does not matter.

hi mate, thanks for your response, im sure ive heard your name from somewhere...

So the 1x slot, thats the black one right? the small one...

well basically i have 2 980ti's and looking at the pics they are on the 1st and 3rd RED gen3 pcie slots

so the GPU thats on the 3rd red slot has covered the PCIE x1 slot, there are the middle one but thats used for the wifi card, my wifi card is better and faster than the onboard one.

So when I want to use the last PCIE slot nothing works on it'

The question is, How can i activate the last slot without upgrading my cpu?

from a 5820 to the 5930 its 200 quid difference, 200 quid to use a pcie slot?

my previous gigabyte board worked with all the 7 slots, so there must be a way just to activate the last slot, its for a sound card so wont take a lot of recource

Its a shame that CPU performance is progressing so slowly at the moment... I have owned a Rampage Extreme, a Rampage II Extreme, a Rampage III Extreme and a Rampage IV Extreme, but I have no interest in upgrading to this bad boy :( As much as I would like to own it! :p

anyone running modded bios ? I'm running the 1902 modded. Seems good so far, just getting my cpu over clock stable then will start on memory.

Had a look at the modded bios - did not try it as it sounded as if it was going to be so so. Let me know what improvements you notice or not as the case may be, and how you get on with it. Let you be the guinea pig lol.

I have found no benefit from teh last 3 Bios 17xx is fine for all what I am doing. Not sure what they mean when they say system stability.

Is your system stable?? Yes!! Well dont update then!!

Pointless descriptioin if it says improved stability with 3200+ Samsung IC mems for example much better!!!

+1, very annoying when they give these pointless descriptions - wish they would give decent info so we could make an informed decision. Perhaps you could badger Asus to change this behaviour?

Booting to windows at 4.6ghz 1.28v, ive upped it to 1.285v just to give it a few extra mv as I always do that even when I think its stable.

OCCT is failing after 50 mins so thats not the best, but then Ive tested a dozen or so games including metro 2033 as that I find is the most stressfull test of all 6 cores of my 5930k - I was expecting a bsod, crash, lock up, anything but I got nothing so I'm unsure why OCCT is flaking out but im not going to worry too much.

Thanks for the update - think I will stick with mainstream bios.
