The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

but what if the games aren't hitting 120fps+ like in arma 3 im getting around 70ish with gsync on would it still be best to push the button to switch it to 144hz?

Entered the ROG Swift club.

Sorry for crap photo. My old Galaxy s2 has broke and I'm using a cheap motorola motosmart. I bought the monitor instead of a new phone lol!

Anyway, the monitor is next to an ageing VG23AH. Still a good monitor but I really am sick of staring at a glossy monitor. I'm beginning to get sick of my own face lol!

I just had a 3 week holiday and was bound to games on a laptop from time to time. Just got back to the best part of a month without using the Swift/G-SYNC.

Wow wow wow wow wow.....soooooo fluid and sexy. I had been using 120Hz exclusively before 144Hz and G-SYNC so the jump was not as pronounced. For anyone not already on 120Hz or G-SYNC the jump to both is mind blowing.

Edit - Someone posted an idea about getting idle clocks lower. I ttried it and it seems to work wonderfully.

120Hz set as desktop refresh rate, Global 3D Settings at Highest Available. My games launch in 144Hz with G-SYNC and my desktop sits at 120Hz. Works seamlessly, back to 324Mhz idle clocks rather than 600+

Most recommend ULMB when you're constantly hitting the GSYNC frame limit be it 120 or 144fps. Personally I find it a little too dark despite the amazing motion clarity.

So anything from say 40+ use g sync if the game is constant 140 use ulbm?

Like on dota im getting 140 constant no drops at all, that would be better to use ulbm. do you still turn v sync on or completely off?

All these different modes are so new to me, wish there was a proper guide that explained it all. Have a funny feeling im not getting the best outta a 600quid monitor :p

Also if 144hz is better than 120hz why have the 120 option at all? Seems my best bet is just leave gsync on and press the button to switch to 144hz in most games as long as frames don't drop below 40ish.

Ulmb only works up to 120hz, iirc it's operating ranges is 85/100/120hz so to enable it you'd have to drop to 120hz, generally people will disable vsync for ulmb. I believe it's target audience is fps players.

With gsync enabled you'll still get the ultra smooth responsive experience with no screen tear even if hitting the frame limit of gsync/refresh.

Some of the guys who use ulmb will be able to explain in greater depths then I can about its perks.

For me, gsync is on all the time at 144hz except for 3d :)

What do you use for 3d ?

Has to be 2560x1440@120hz for 3dvision to work :)

You will also need to manually disbable gsync and probably ulmb as the monitor defaults to ulmb when switched to 120hz :)

Enjoying it?

Been playing with the ulmb mode. I think it's as good as the turbo mode on the Eizo and better than the hack (colours aren't changing). If I alt tab to the desktop it seems to drop out of ulmb though? It is a little dark, i've got it at 50%, but no worse than I'm used to with the other methods. I've yet to try gsync yet. It really doesn't look like any other TN monitor i've used, image quality is great.

Right you 'orrible lot of Maxwell swift owners....

DSR...

Does DSR work fine with Gsync enabled? As I'm readying funds to ***** on some 8GB maxwell cards in the near future, this would be the cherry on top.

The swift + DSR should do 4x DSR so a tasty 5120x2880, hell, the Acer 4K will do 7680x4320! SO many pixels to push but it should make older and less demanding titles look super sharp.

Not got it out the box yet lol. Will do when my other bits arrive and will build all at once.

Thanks for info on 3D :)

I think Gregster tried it on his Titans but could not get it to work.

Would wait for someone with a 9xx series card and a G-SYNC monitor to confirm for sure.
