The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

The inversion artifacts are visible even when OD is set to off. Obviously they're more visible when it's increased.

I'll have a play tonight with GSYNC vs VSYNC vs ULMB etc, see what the results are. And will look into tweaking the colour setup!
 
I've only just started noticing these inversion artifacts. I thought I was seeing a sort of tiny 'cross hatching' in certain games, in certain scenarios and looked it up. So I'm pretty sure it's what it is.

The bad news is it seems every Rog swift has it by the sounds of it after reading around a bit.

Kind of whish I hadn't looked into it now :( It's not a deal breaker for me though really, as it doesn't happen often, and is only really noticeable in certain graphical situations, if you're looking for it. Is a bit disappointing though as I thought this panel was nigh on perfect for what it is.
 
I came from the XL2420T The swift's resolution is vastly better as are the colours it simply batters the Benq but then again costs a lot more.

It was far easier to get something I could live with from the swift without significant tweaking though its still a fair way from perfect - dropping gamma in NVCP to 0.8 seems to vastly improve the perceived contrast as well but I dislike using that :S

Could you try resetting that to default and using the ICC profile in my review? Just curious how it looked on yours. You obviously don't have to keep using it, I definitely agree it's a shame when things can't be fixed just with the monitor OSD.

They were apparent regardless on mine and most obvious in 3D mode (no G-SYNC of course). Stuttering in regular VSync could perhaps draw the eye away from them.

I left the colour channels at 100%, set the brightness to 20%, ulmb@50%, works spot on for me.

What's an inversion effect?
 
Inversion effect is where you see a sort of lines/cross-hatching when something moves rapidly, particularly items of bright colours.

I'd recommend fellow Swift owners don't look into it too much, or look for it too hard. As once you see it and notice it, you'll start looking for it and it may start to bother you.
This is me now :(

I still think the monitor is great overall though. As mentioned, if you turn overdrive off the effect is lessened somewhat (I've yet to test it with gsync on or off though!).

However, I would rather have very occasional and barely noticeable 'inversion artifacts' than run without overdrive on normal setting. Without OD it really feels a bit blurry and rubbish - like a paltry 60hz monitor ;-)

I gave your ICC profile a whirl PCM2! It was a bit too dark for me so I think my gamma may be closer to how it should be than I thought.

I'm now running a 'semi custom' profile and using "Color Profile Keeper" (great prog but a bit twitchy) for the Rog and my Dell as I was sick of both monitors slightly changing/ losing their profile settings after exiting some games.
My 'custom' profile for the Rog is based on the default icm profile for the monitor but with the gamma settings from the nvcp at 0.92 and contrast at +47, so a slight reduction on standard.

For the monitor itself I have the following:

Brightness: 22
Contrast: 50
User colour Temp: R:96 G:96 B:100

I find this all works brilliantly alongside my Dell which is sRGB icc profiled, and as good a match as I can get in terms of colour reproduction and gamma for a good IPS and a good TN panel that sit side by side :)

Is GSYNC improveable at all? I don't mean actually within the monitor itself like using it on IPS at 144hz for better IQ but can the GSYNC tech be improved?

I actually downloaded it last night but not got around to trying it yet - I have to reset the settings and have another go anyhow - for some reason out the box the monitor had a very reddish hue (like an old LCD taking a long time to "warm up") which has slowly gone away over the first couple of hours of using it.

Playing with your profile now it does sort the colours out very well but I still can't quite get the contrast I'd like without using a custom gamma setting :S.

Overall pretty happy with this monitor though - its a little bit bleached but possible to balance all the colours close enough they aren't objectionable for day to day general use.

EDIT: Your ICC profile/settings and gamma between 0.8 and 0.92 (I've changed to 0.92) and brightness at whatever level gets people the whites as bright as they like seems to be a good configuration (atleast on mine) playing BF4 with gsync on, fps capped at 125 (more a personal thing but it seems to work a tiny bit better for some reason) but the monitor "overclocked" to 144 produces a credibly vivid colour palette ingame and extreme smoothness, precision and clarity.
