The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

My review is up on this one by the way, for anybody interested (site is in signature). It's the only review I'm aware of that also looks at the 3D Vision performance of the monitor. The stuff on 2D isn't too shabby either ;). As you can see there is a lot of gaming enjoyment to be had from this monitor. It's not perfect, but no monitor out there is.

I didn't get to test the supplied DP cable as I use a StarTech MiniDP to DP cable instead. It worked very nicely. It would be pretty shoddy that ASUS cheaped out on a cable on a monitor of this price. But then again price doesn't equate linearly to quality when it comes to consumer electronics ;).

The supplied cable is made by Amphenol

After a little searching this cable company seens to also supplied a lot of DP cables to dell..

Will deffo give that a read cheers :)

I just changed the DP cable as I was getting connection problems...
I seen quiet a few people posting that has had problems with the supplied DP cable...

I recommend owners don't use the DP cable that comes supplied with there Asus ROG SWIFT and buy a better quality one..

At ultra high res or high res with 120+Hz DP seems quite picky when it comes to cables. I've got about 10 different ones here from playing about with 4K and trying to get 120Hz working from my laptop* (with my XL2420T) - amongst the oddities:

The DP cable that comes with my 4K panel is 1 of only 2 of those cables that gives me 4K somewhat reliably - yet won't let me run 120Hz off my laptop reliably whereas some of the other cables will let me do 120Hz off the laptop but won't handle 4K.

I've got 2 identical cables - one of which handles 4K and 120Hz on the laptop really well (the one I use every day on the laptop) but the other one results in frequent timeouts and I noticed it is literally 2cm longer than the other (despite both being the same 1.8m cable - same brand and model, etc.).

* The 675m doesn't seem to have a very strong signal "drive" so getting 120Hz out of it over any distance is hard work (possibly due to also driving the internal panel at 120Hz - never thought to try dropping the internal panel to 60Hz or turning it off before).

Sigh ended up pulling the trigger on one - had a discount elsewhere so I didn't feel like I was paying extra for the ROG branding :S just can't stand the XL2420T any longer.

EDIT: Having only 1 input is going to be a bit of a pain but can live with that.

I don't think you'll be disappointed, I had a XL2420T then a Swift. The colours are a lot better than the BenQ.

Problem with the BenQ they've done the equivalent of when someone in sound believes that an equalizer is there to ramp every frequency upto max - great if your not very discerning and just like stupidly bright overly vibrant/vivid colours.

Well I just had a half-hour saga getting my new swift to even display anything.

I was using DP to output 1920x1080 @ 60hz before I replaced the xl2420t with this (was using 60hz for skyrim). I assume this monitor can't display 1080p @ 60hz because it just would not detect a signal. Had to plug the xl2420t in and set it to 1080p 120hz, then when I plugged the swift in it defaults to 1440p 60hz..

Does anyone else's look grainy/speckled, especially for whites?

See wrunkly or andybirds post for some good colour settings, I think it's widely agreed that it's not great out of the box, definitely needs some user input.

The monitor uses a fairly grainy matte screen surface. It is, in my opinion, the one thing I'd change about the monitor if I could pick something. I write about it and the effects on the image extensively in my review as it's something that's very important to me personally. :)
