The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

You know the swift sales? Damn, nice.

It's a well known fact the item is in very short supply, the initial release was in very short supply and that even North America had trouble getting it.

There is still back orders in many regions currently. It's a relatively niche product and remains so.

You do not need to know sales figures to know that compared to other monitors it's a low volume product. Stop being a facetious child.

K, bro.
Without knowing the sales you can't come to the conclusion it's a design flaw. If there's only been 100 made and sold, 3 people have the same fault...still not a design flaw ;)

Remember though, bro. Vocal minority, how many have arrived without a single fault?

Did I make a conclusion? No.

What I did do was state that it points towards a design flaw. A low volume product with seemingly large amounts of reports of identical failures. What I did not not say was that it IS a design flaw.

Your posting style, tone and "k bro" are all rather trashy however. It's enough to say I won't have to read it any longer \o/

Wracking my head about what to get instead. I have too many wants and while the asus rog is not the perfect monitor it gets a few things right. However they do fail in rather new ways. Possibly they will sort the issues out with newer revisions.... So maybe I just have to get a replacement....

I was contemplating spending my hard earned dosh on one of these, think i'll wait till after Christmas and see what the new year brings. as I'm going to need a new gpu for better res me thinks 690 on a 1900x1200 atm. and I'm not keen on a 4Gb card.

You'll be seeing it in about a month then Sin.

Still pleased I held off on these, hopefully see freesync ones soon without the inflated ROG tag.

I'm a bit confused by that test, if I scroll up and down with the scrollbar I can see vertical lines, but only when running the test full screen. If I close the browser to a narrow window and scroll up and down or left and right I can't see much wrong.

However the grey pattern does turn green as you run it in a window or not filling most of the screen (maybe a feature of that site to ensure you view it full screen), but when it's green the issue is less noticeable.

I just tried the test on my old Dell monitor at work, and the pattern NEVER goes green.

I also noticed last night that running Win98 in VMware, when you shutdown, the pattern on the screen in the virtual machine window has patches of green in it. There's definitely something up.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else really; I want to use monitor to install stuff on new PC, but it may go completely wrong at some point I expect... and there's no rivals with similar specs out yet :-/

Yes, just add gametime.maxvariablefps in config. Here's my config:

GameTime.MaxVariableFps 135
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurFixedShutterTime 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurForceOn 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurMax 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurMaxSampleCount 0
WorldRender.MotionBlurQuality 0
WorldRender.PlanarReflectionEnable 0
WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 0

Thanks for this kiwi, I tried just GameTime.MaxVariableFps 135 and PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1, monitor at 144Hz.

Works a dream in BF4. :)

Sigh - warranty is direct with ASUS and not with OcUK.... Oh joy.

They said this too me then sent me an RMA anyway, then I called them to reconfirm and they said it was OK so they are picking it up tomorrow morning. Send a Web note.

I have already purchased another monitor. I have to have a monitor, I do not have a spare!

It just is not good enough for a 700 quid monitor to be palmed off only to ge a recondition or only to have to go through it again if there is any issue. Gets me really annoyed.

Wow some world class whinging going on here.

Products fail, nothing else comes close to this right now. Ocuk are looking after people who have encountered issues...

1 fail is unlucky, and your in the minority

2 fail isn't impossible but it can happen, very very unfortunate, quite sure you can get a discount or a free game for the hassle.

No better monitor right now, simple.

As for freesink, let's just keep focus on products that actually exist.

They are entitled to whine, what's it to you?

Do you own this monitor?

Many people have had more than one of this monitor either fail or have issues. I have had two and given up for now. Most people are purely complaining about the monitor, not OcUK or their service in any way.

Although the monitor has some outstanding features that doesn't mean we should all put up with poor QC by Asus. It is not a budget monitor, it is a high end monitor at almost double the price of basic 1440p panels

Called ASUS support number given. Woefully inadequate. Basically said "go to this website, we cannot advise or help you."

Have stated that in no circumstances will a new product will be sent but a refurbished one will be. I quote:

"When an old faulty one is available and refurbished that will be sent to you. Yours will then be refurbished and sent to the next person who has a faulty monitor"

It was said with pride like it was a top tier resolution........

Just completed the Web based form and had to re-do it as you can only use 150 characters to describe the fault. I cannot even BEGIN to describe the problem in 150 characters. No doubt I am going to receive some crappy "Checklist" of troubleshooting to perform in 48 hours that I have ALREADY done and cannot detail in my support submission.

Posted on Forum and called them. Have to deal direct with ASUS, no OcUK avenue. Advised them that writing "OcUK & ASUS Warranty" on the product page is very misleading. Following my conversation it has been reworded to
- Warranty: 3yr (28 Day OcUK DOA, Asus After)

Shame, as the OcUK RMA avenue was one of the reasons I was happy to buy. Now I have to deal with shoddy call centres, drawn out and long web based forms and what will no doubt be an ex-faulty refurbished unit.

For anyone interested my manufacture date was August 2014.
