The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Is the ROG Swift worth getting, regardless of GSync?

I'm looking to get a 2nd 290x and I'm looking for a display on which they'll be able to flex their muscles.

Yup :)
I don't use this monitor for the Gsync, only for the 1440 and high refresh :p (ok, ULMB as well, sue me <--- what you can't use on AMD not a deal breaker)

Mines a recent purchase - August 2014 production and E8 serial.

4k is another option, but I'm thinking 4GB VRAM may not quite be enough at that resolution.

Ignoring any potential issues its a good 2560x1440 gaming monitor with or without gsync.

What does your serial number begin with?

Can we get any clarification from other owners with a recent serial number that this could be a new batch with resolved problems?

I'm actually considering this monitor and have been for a while but wasn't prapared to spend £700 and now its dropped I'm holding off because of issues.

My latest replacement monitor has a serial number beginning EA.... My guess is that early adopters of this monitor (myself included) serial numbers began with E8.... and it's my suspicion that the E8.... are the first batch and therefore more prone to developing faults.

It would be worth collating serial numbers of those faulty versus replacements to see if a trend emerges.

My one that died was E8 and my second one I just purchased is E9.
E8 - used to flicker on game load screens then the fonts went mad last week.
E9 - brand new last week - all ok so far almost no flickering on game load screens, however I can see vertial lines (pixel inversion? screen door?) when with any horizonal movement in games. Very faint but noticable so I try sit further back. Cannot remember if the E8 had it or not.

Great now I'm worried. Mine is E8 :(

I wouldn't worry too much, just be aware. I'd be more interested in knowing those that RMA and what their serial numbers were. I'm assuming they're all E8's but I'd be interested to know if other serial numbers such as E9 or EA are just as likely to develop a fault. What I'm trying to get to the bottom of is whether the probability of fault is higher for early adopters and those that wait a few more months may see this diminish. It also provides peace of mind to those that RMA more recently that their replacement monitor will hopefully last a lot longer!

Well I'm actively deciding not to worry now. It's pointless ain't it. This monitor has a 3year warranty, which is pretty good these days. That should be ample time for any serious issues to show and if they do then ill deal with it.

Shiiii. Mine flickers badly in menus and load screens. I thought it was just how G-Sync worked as it goes if I disable it but I ad,it I was quite disapointed in something that was supposed to fix one issue caused another. Granted in gameplay it's usually it an issue but...

My faulty one is an E8.

Mine also had screen door effect visible on some motion, generally light grey colours highlighted it the most.

3 years of returning monitors for faults developing and getting refurbs back is not my idea of a sound investment :p

With the benefit of hindsight, as good as the monitor is when it works, I would not be investing the money in it now.

sad to see all these problems with swift hope mine dont develop any cos there is no way on this earth will i be getting sent a refurb as a replacement this is breaking consumer laws.

You would have to check warranty small print as they are probably in their right to use refurbished units if they pass quality control. It does take the shine off it a bit though...

you do not have to accept a refub as its not a replacement it is second hand and not what you paid for, the value would decrease as its a refurb model.
Replace the item
Repair it
Give you a refund
this is the 1979 sale of goods act

Bit of a rock and a hard place at the moment. I opted to go for an Acer XB270HA after returning and getting a refund for the Swift. Monetarily, it's the most sensible for me at the moment.

The Acer is a bit 'Meh' to be honest. 1080 seems a bit 'cartoony' on 27 inch (compared to 1440), screen is a bit grainy with some AA, and it's got an annoying bright pixel just left of centre screen.

You could say it's a £300 cheaper monitor, but it's still a £370 (when I bought it - missed the offer by a day) monitor which isn't cheap.

If you can, I'd still try 'risking' the Swift. Shame there's just not another 1440 144hz screen about.

Just my thoughts...

Rich

I am of of the same thoughts however I am sticking with the swift no matter what happens, it is too good, mine eyes have seen.

When they can make other TN 120Hz+ with gsync i will be happier, there will be more competition and better prices. The ultimate is a new technology like OLED (with its own list of problems) or high speed IPS style technologies.

Anyone have a good profile and nvidia/osd setting for the swift. I've been fiddling with it but I can't get it quite right.
My mate calibrated it at the weekend wioth a Colour Munki but it's not bright enough. I like it bright but want blacks to be black.

I didn't find the tftcentral profile that good personally. In the end I've stuck with brightness 50, user colours 100,100,100 and dropping the gamma slightly via the nVidia control panel. PCM's profile is quite good but I couldn't get the gamma level quite right using it.
