The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Hi,

I've got this monitor, but just waiting for the display port to mini display port cables to arrive.
As I got the palit 980 card which have the mini display port. and have to say is the quietest one I've tried. left on 57% fan speed, its idle temps are, 28, and 57 load on BF4, and compared to the others, u can't hear it at all, and I'm a nightmare when it comes to silent systems. Just shocked coming from a toasty AMD card (which I've always used) to this, just amazed me.

Question is, how well did 1440p run @144hz ? Would you say a 2nd 980 is needed.

Cheers :)

I run a pair of GTX970s and can get a solid 135fps in BF4 with everything on except AA. (I've capped at 135 in a config file).
One 980 will get you over 100fps, but you'll need two if you want to max it.
Problem is 2 980s are very expensive compared to 2 970s.

Afraid so - started off with games (actually started off with some weird flickering), then that, then finally it would just do that all the time. Changing the refresh to 120hz worked for a while, then that gave up the ghost.

I ended up returning, then getting an Acer 27 1080p @ 144hz. It's got G-Sync, but it's not a patch on the ROG (when it's working). If I'd had the chance, I'd have tried another ROG - it's that good.

Hope it works out okay,

Rich

Well, thanks for the heads up. It's well within warranty at least!

I have to have 120hz on for it to be more smooth, as with 144hz i get few stutters here and there, very odd... i have to also leave aa off...

I may try capping fames to 135 also..
Is there anything else u added in the config file ?

I came from amd cards which were great. but the tearing was to much..
I'm sure the old amd drivers are cleaned of the system..

I'm also running mine at 120hz because when I go 144hz, I get a terrible twitching effect.

Edit: It's quite strange, if I have it on 144hz I get terrible stuttering on my desktop, its like it's trying to focus. But if I open a web browser it stops but as soon as I minimise the browser or move it so my desktop is showing it begins stuttering again. Can anyone help with this?

That's what i get, a kind of twitching effect! not sure what driver is best? or if this g-sync improves more with drivers.

Possibly GPU clocks aren't high enough to drive it at 144Hz and if you've got hardware acceleration enabled in the browser it might be kicking the clocks up a touch enough to stabilise it.

No twitching here at 144Hz with 2x GTX970... that kinda thing would bug me big time

What settings you using in game, and is everything default in the nvidia control panel, apart from sli and G-sync of course. 120hz just feels smoother for some odd reason.

I have a 4770 cpu @4.2 with a Asus hero Z97 board.
Was thinking to change to a 5820k setup.

Nothing special I don't think:

After I saw earlier comments about 120Hz feeling smoother to some people than 144, I tried both, switching between them in BF4.

I can notice the difference between 120 and 144... but it's 144 that feels that little bit smoother than 120.

I don't notice any jerking/twitching/similar and that is something that would bug me... I didn't like SLI microstutter when that was more significant than it is now and this twitch you guys are referring to sounds more substantial than microstutter.

I am confident I have a smoother experience at 144 than 120... but quite a few of you seem to have a different experience.

In game settings change around somewhat... but usually when I want to be competative in a BF4 game then I turn most things to low but have been leaving 4xMSAA + High Post on.

Although, one thing I have noticed (and I remember this from playing BF3 with GTX690 on 120Hz BenQ panels... I notice a little bit of extra delay added by enabling MSAA... not because of a lower frame rate (still does 120/144 capped with both).

Other games are all maxxed out.

Try disabling the adaptive power management feature - see if that does anything for you.

Sorry for asking what may be a dumb question but how do you update the drivers for the monitor

I think he was referring to graphics drivers rather than monitor drivers...

You shouldn't need any for the monitor.

I noticed you only changed,

Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration.. to single performance mode
Texture filtering - Quality.. to High Quality.
There any reason for that?

Do you You know the difference between the Quality setting, and high setting?

Think i may try Power Management Mode, to prefer maximum performance, and see if that changes anything.

What would be the best Benchmark to try to make sure my systems performing correctly, so i can compare to other systems.

I have everything maxed, but AA is 2x @ 1440p

Cheers :)

P.s. tryied Power Management Mode, to prefer maximum performance. made no difference.

When i said about changing to 120hz, that's via the monitor turbo button, not in game. in game it's 144hz.
Ok what i notice, and why i think mines stutters in places, is if the fps is hitting 144fps, then it's fine, if it drops to 130 119 etc, that's when the stuttery comes into play. but 120hz via turbo button on the monitor, it's ok.

perfect in 1080p on 144hz, but dam don't want to go back there after seeing 1440p :D

My board http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-608-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811 is 8x 8x in SLI ?
Would 16x 8x work better you think ?

Have you enabled gsync in the NV control panel and on the monitor?

Edit: ignore; It says in a previous post you have, it's just that gsync is supposed to stop the jitters when you get frame rate drops.

Didn't know there was an option from inside the monitor to enable it?
Thought it was only via NV control panel?

Also,
What are these options in the menu,
OD You have, (off, normal, extreme?

Under information, says Mode Normal?

Thanks :)
