The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Has anyone else got the problem of text appear not good on one side of the monitor, check these images. Running Max resolution: 144hz

The first one is from the left side of the monitor, everything looks smooth:

But as start moving from the left side and you go over to the right side of the monitor everything begins to look awful:

Anyone know what is wrong?

I noticed you only changed,

Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration.. to single performance mode
Texture filtering - Quality.. to High Quality.
There any reason for that?

Do you You know the difference between the Quality setting, and high setting?

Think i may try Power Management Mode, to prefer maximum performance, and see if that changes anything.

What would be the best Benchmark to try to make sure my systems performing correctly, so i can compare to other systems.

I have everything maxed, but AA is 2x @ 1440p

Cheers :)

I did testing a few years ago between high performance -> high quality and found improved IQ with high quality but a performance hit and higher benchmark scores with high performance.

But now, with the power of these cards... I want the IQ.

The biggest difference I notice with it is the range (in game) that it renders textures in high quality... in high performance mode it's like you have a smaller radius of good quality textures surrounding your character.

So now I automatically up that by default because the cards I run can handle it fine.

In the monitors OSD I have OD set to extreme, yet under information is states normal...

Light in motion is enabled.

Try OD in Extreme/Normal/Off and Light in motion on/off... see if any of those make a difference?

P.s. tryied Power Management Mode, to prefer maximum performance. made no difference.

When i said about changing to 120hz, that's via the monitor turbo button, not in game. in game it's 144hz.
Ok what i notice, and why i think mines stutters in places, is if the fps is hitting 144fps, then it's fine, if it drops to 130 119 etc, that's when the stuttery comes into play. but 120hz via turbo button on the monitor, it's ok.

perfect in 1080p on 144hz, but dam don't want to go back there after seeing 1440p :D

My board http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-608-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811 is 8x 8x in SLI ?
Would 16x 8x work better you think ?

Hmmm... ok... what about if you disable gync entirely?

Do you have vsync enabled or disabled in-game?

I have it disabled in-game but nvidia control panel over-rides that.

I have the feeling in-game settings would enable normal laggy vsync and I don't want that so use the NVCP to set it on. Possible you have in-game vsync on?

I haven't tried by altering it with the turbo mode button... I will try that in-game later, see if i notice any difference.

I had assumed that would just change the pc settings to sync it up... but having just tried it at desktop... I switched the monitor to 120Hz yet the output setting through control panel still showed 144hz.

Didn't know there was an option from inside the monitor to enable it?
Thought it was only via NV control panel?

Also,
What are these options in the menu,
OD You have, (off, normal, extreme?

Under information, says Mode Normal?

Thanks :)

Overdrive I think. I have mine on normal. If you chose extreme you may get weird ghosting.

Looking at my monitor settings I can't find a gysync option. I have lightboost enabled and ULMB disabled.

@Valrak40k No mine doesn't do that.

I don't get this mate.

Maybe something wrong with it :(

up2nogooduk, have you enabled G-SYNC in the "manage 3d settings" under "v-sync" as well as in the g-sync section of the control panel? Just a thought.

Overdrive set to extreme gives overshoot apparently, TFTCentral reckoned to leave it on normal.

Yes - I just switched back to Normal from Extreme and prefer it.

I tested leaving the computer & game set to 144Hz and using the turbo button to switch to 120Hz.

Doing that... I still find a bit more smoothness at 144Hz... no real stuttering/jittering at either setting.

Had the same thing and had to rma in the end...

Got a new slight issue with the power block now. When up and running no issue, but once PC is off give it a minute and the screen wont power back on unless you plug the power block out of the mains and then back in. Very annoying. Not even sure who to contact about it as screen itself is fine!

I have EXACTLY the same issue with the powerbrick as well, have been back and forth with ASUS a few times to see if they would just send me a new brick but they insist I have to RMA the whole thing. I can manage plugging and unplugging for now but shouldn't have to for the nearly £700 I paid for this screen. Very Very frustrating.

Thats the Asus RMA experience in a nutshell from what I've read. You could try getting a replacement power brick on eBay maybe? I've not looked but I suspect they'll be around £20. Not ideal but would save RMAing the whole thing.

I'm not sure it is ther power brick, i've had this happen once but unplugging the brick from the monitor fixed it, not powering off the brick

If you just send the brick and it turns out to be the monitor then youll have just wasted a load of time

Pushed the button on a pg278q tonight. I'm using a PB278Q atm which is a nice screen, but I do find myself wishing the response times were slower when gaming. Hoping I get a good one!

This monitor doesn't seem to like power cuts (I guess by extension being unplugged to), noticed it twice recently when left in standby/off at the button on the monitor for a few hours and then the power went out for a few minutes the display comes on of its own accord when the power comes back and seems to confuse the power button behaviour until power cycled again.

Afraid so - started off with games (actually started off with some weird flickering), then that, then finally it would just do that all the time. Changing the refresh to 120hz worked for a while, then that gave up the ghost.

I ended up returning, then getting an Acer 27 1080p @ 144hz. It's got G-Sync, but it's not a patch on the ROG (when it's working). If I'd had the chance, I'd have tried another ROG - it's that good.

Hope it works out okay,

Rich

Good news! I think I fixed it.

I err....got a new display port cable :p Had it plugged in since Wednesday and no sudden flickering since :D

This is extremely strange not noticed any of the problems with this monitor when not gaming. Running a 3 gpu set up and yes with G sync my gaming experience is miles better than it was. But in Bf4 when things get intense 64 players I've dropped down to 25 fps for like 5 seconds generally it's buttery smooth but not consistently as I've heard from people.
Some maps have been just horrible to play.
I even turned off my overclocks (cpu+gpu) to see if it makes a difference.
Bf4 and tomb raider are the best examples of g sync for me, but even TR likes a little slow down when the action heats up I just don't get!? Thought 3 gpu's would handle it fine!
Maybe just don't have the luck when it comes to hardware.
It's an awesome monitor but it's not perfect

25FPS is 25 FPS. It's NEVER going to look or feel smooth, even with G-SYNC.

I don't know who you heard from but G-SYNC was never going to deliver smooth gameplay at sub 30FPS, does not now and never will.

Nothing to do with gsync I would say. I run 780ti SLI and a 2600k i7 at 4.5 on a rog and whilst I don't play bf4 much I have done some testing and the lowest it's gone for me is dips to the mid 40s on full 64 multiplayer maps. I'd say something else is going on.

What CPU do you run, and have you tried running just 2 cards, or even one? Can't 3 cards cause more bother than it's worth?

Also, can you recall what specific maps had the probs?
