The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Reading both trough this thread and that of the Eizo FG2421, am I the only one that is slowly developing a fear to purchase displays, lcd phobia?

I wonder for how cheap one can get a FW900, good ol' CRT from Sony. Not even joking btw. xD

I've emailed back to Asus again, and called them, although the guy on the phone couldn't help as it is "already with their level 2 team".

I feel really guilty pushing it back to OcUK, but I've called them and arranged the thing to be collected tomorrow, and they can deal with Asus, as it's apparently impossible to get Asus to care.

I know it will add time on to the turnaround, but at least it actually gets resolved, rather than ignored by Asus!

It is ridiculous that they can't just make a working TFT monitor - out of the ones I've purchased recently I've had more with not insignificant issues than I have that just work the only positive is none I've bought have had dead pixels or excessive backlight bleed.

I'm always of the mindset that when it comes to tech and the internet, that people will almost always mention problems but rarely when they are satisfied with a product. It is understandable when it comes to issues as they either want solutions, or to vent/inform. So when you see threads like this about X product with lots of people with problems, it always pays to take it with a huge pinch of salt.

My experiences with tech on the other hand tell me your phobia is well justified! lol

Monitor phobia is why ive held onto the one in sig for 7 years.:D

I always find it hard to pick one that ticks all the right boxes. The swift seems to do so but then you read about issues and start worrying. Understandable enough as it is a pretty big chunk of loot to spend.

OcUK won't pick it up because "it's not our problem if you haven't kept the packaging".

Asus say they can't see a fault.

I've written in the CS forum, and if they are still unhelpful will take OcUK to the small claims court.

So this is, without question, the monitor to go for at the moment ?

I've had mine a couple of days, and I'm really happy with it. It ticks all the boxes, and with a single 980 I'm getting between 45-65 fps in DA:I with everything maxed. The game is smooth at those frames, and it just reinforces the fact that GPU's are not ready for 4k.

As my GPU's get more powerful, my FPS will get closer to the 144 this screen is capable of. Obviously lesser demanding games perform at higher frames, and settings can be turned down if need be... but to recap, 1440p + 144hz + G-Sync = Awseome.

Hope you get this resolved, mate.

My packaging is under my desk right now as I'm obviously testing within my 14 day DSR window. I'll make sure to keep the original packaging.

Especially as my first one died within 3 days, I kept everything for just over a month, but it's a pretty big box, and eventually got thrown out (if I kept all my boxes in a 1 bed flat my fiancee would leave me!)

I didn't want to be a hassle for OcUK as it's not really their fault, and was happy to deal with Asus, but I feel they are being unreasonable now. The monitor is almost 6 months old, was I supposed to keep the box for 3 years?

You don't need to keep the box, that's total ********. I am however hanging onto mine for 'security' as I get ever more worried reading this thread.

Ocuk are your retailer. The onus is on them to sort this out. Just quote SOGA at them. I know everyone goes on about great customer service at ocuk, but it is very inconsistent, and I have personally experienced shocking service in the past over a monitor. It seems the guys on the forum are great (Gibbo, Bailey etc) but some in the general customer service team are turd.

Yes that is true usually, especially considering how high profile the swift is from marketing standpoint. But damn, its still quite an exception when many users whom have owned multiple of these screens. I've never heard of such ******** in the CRT days of simplicity.

Money doesn't grow on trees for me personally, I expect a more responsible quality control/assurance. Today's lcd's are so fragile, perhaps one company should be the first to step up and make them slightly thicker and more of quality.
That way, the consumer can decide. YOLO sexy slim design? Or perhaps an enthousiast consumer for a more technical design.

Even having had two of them go faulty, I love the swift, don't get me wrong. I'm also convinced I'd just been very unlucky and that the failure rate of these is no higher than other monitors in truth.

I'm hoping my exchange (if/when I get one!!) will be a newer unit - both my current and my previous were very early models, within 3 days of retail availability - and will therefore be better.

If I end up going to small claims to get my current issue resolved, I may well end up with a refund, in which case I may look to the new Acer IPS 1440p144 gsync screen.

I'm skeptical wheter the Acer IPS panel will end up in any better shape. We still have never seen a G-Sync/ULMB technology combined with IPS. The deciding factor for me will be if with its higher refresh rate and ulmb, will there be noticeble ghosting and will the inputlag be kept at a possible minimum. If it passes both tests at a reasonable level it could have some potential.

Aye. I'm very much looking forward to the next wave of high Hz gsync panels, but I fear the first generation of IPS variants may be plagued with issues. Negative nancy, moi?

I've been um ming and ahh ING for months now payday is next Friday I've got the money and this seems to best fit my needs atm so few quick questions.

Are there any major problems with this?

How good/bad is the general qualoty ie many people getting dead pixels or back light bleed?

how good/bad is ocuk/Asus support if there is back light bleed or dead pixels.

Should I instead 21st for the Acer predator
