The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

As yourself and other people have mentioned the complaints, I've been digging into this over the last fortnight and requested some information from our HQ to shed light on it.

According to them, we've been working hard to improve customers' experiences with the Swift, and for units made after Q4 2014 we're currently looking at around 1% defect rate. They are expecting this to drop further as we further refine processes. They have also taken specific action this year against dead pixels and are closely monitoring the return rates.

I appreciate that in your case you've received one with dead pixel issues, and I can only apologise for that - I'm aware that statistics don't help you, though hopefully your replacement will be with you shortly.

However, I did want to clarify for people reading this thread what sort of proportions of customers are seeing issues - whilst there are definitely some problematic panels out there, the chances of receiving a good one are very high. And, hopefully as this thread shows, we will provide RMAs to get customers the quality product they expect.

Jim, you couldn't yourself be able to tell me why my replacement Swift enters into a 'colour test' when my PC is off could you?

Was very impressed with how quick the RMA process was, but this is bothering me and I do not want to exchange yet another monitor :(

Honestly, that's the first I've heard about one going into colour test. Our tech support might be the best route for that in case it's something they've seen previously.

Thats very reassuring to hear from Asus. But when I make my Swift purchase sometime this month, how will I make sure to get a unit that is made after Q4 2014, as you said. Due to paranoia I'm literally waiting for stock to be emptied in the Netherlands before I make my purchase. :D Although we are almost half a year ahead since that time, surely now most of them are new productions?

Cooleo I Understood it as you have to give them the box that it originally came in :)

My faulty one is from DEC 2014 so by the looks of it production date means diddly squat.

Just wanted to know from owners, how are the colours on the rog swift compared to an ips panel. Are they close? Or no where near as good? Can you calibrate them to look just as good?

I really want a 1440p 120hz g sync panel, bought the new acer xb270hu but it has a lot of ips glow, so might send it back and get this.

Yes Dice and if there is a screw that holds the stand to the monitor make sure you keep it,I forgot with one of the rma's but I got it back.

Cooleo thanks man :)

Well I work with an Asus PB278Q IPS part of the day and when I come home there is a difference but not as much as the IPS snob crowd would have you believe :)

That's good to know, I might just return the acer and get the swift. Asus QC seems to be better than Acer's.

Well.... you would say that ;) :p

It depends on the user and just how sensitive/fussy they are about image quality, a lot of people seem to be happy coming from ips to this but others aren't as happy and still find the panel to be nowhere as good as IPS, although it could be largely due to the anti-glare finish....

I thought I would do a ROG Swift and G-Sync review :)

After watching this review, I think I will finally buy one. After disappointment with Acer 144hz IPS, Rog Swift is the only option for me now. If the failure rate on current Swifts is within 1%, I can give it a chance. However one issue remains, as seen on the official geforce forum:

If possible, I play in 3d. I am on single 980 gtx right now. Adding another one for 3d on Swift is futile it seems. In the same time I have Titan X ordered as soon as they are in stock. Do you guys think that single Titan X have enough grunt to drive 3d @1440p in most cases?

I'd have thought so - in a lot of games you have to turn off 1-2 fairly performance intensive advanced settings as they don't play nice with 3D Vision anyhow and you can get away with lower levels of AA, etc. as well.

I have noticed that at 3d @ 1080p. Proper done 3d gives you immersion that you do not need some highest setting you would like to have at 2d only.
