The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Unfortunately I have just called customer services to have my panel returned, 2-3 dead pixels in the corner...

I was considering keeping it even with the above but I do think it affects resale value quite a lot further down the line. So since ocUK offer a replacement even if it has only 1 dead pixel i have taken them up on it!

This seems to be not the only issue I've had, during software loads and even youtube videos the screen freaks out for a millisecond or 2... This only happens on 144Hz mode... Kinda looks like its tuning in to a channel. Will post a vid of it if anyone wants to see.

Little frustrated as playing games on it is stunning!

I'm now wondering at this point about the turn-around; how long this will take to be resolved? :(

I'm sorry it's developed a dead pixel... and FWIW I am going to contact HQ and see if I can get some more info about it in general.

As for the return, it shouldn't take weeks as the RMA on the Swift is a direct swap - the courier brings you a new monitor and you give them the old one. You need to ring ASUS direct, not OCUK - as per the description on the OCUK product page

For info, I called Asus today and was informed that Panels under 28 days will be replaced with Brand New from place of purchase, panels over 28 days will be a direct replacement from Asus (which is a refurbished panel).

I have 1 dead pixel on mine but seeing as OCUK don't do direct replacements i.e send one out and pick up the faulty one at the same time which I find quite dumb I'm very much screwed as I work from home half the week and if I don't have a monitor well then I can't work and I lose money and I cannot get 1 on loan from anywhere at the moment so I'm going to have to probably use the option from Asus which will be a refurbed panel and knowing my look it will have bright dots, Dead pixels, Blown out circuitry, Faulty G-Sync module, Inversion issues etc....

This will be the last monitor I purchase from Asus, All of them have had issues.

Yea, when something doesn't work out right its highly frustrating. If you need the Asus UK number its 01442 265548, they were quick and really helpful on the phone i found.

Does your panel exhibit a strange flicker at 144hz on desktop use and software?

Already done the Asus RMA, Going to take 2 days to sort the paper work out apparently.

My panel apart from the 1 dead pixel is perfect.

Asus severely need to sort this situation out though.

I've seen loads of forums all with people complaining about Swift issues and for £629.99 a monitor that gets either dead pixel/s, Bright dots, G-Sync module problems etc etc... is not acceptable.

If your replacement from Asus direct is no better will Asus replace if the refurb has 1 dead pixel?

Hopefully it'll be fine but I would want that question answered before returning...

Although i am known for being overly paranoid ;)

If the replacement is the same or worse I wont rest until I have what I paid for and that is a monitor free of defects, If they think they can get away with handing garbage out for such a huge price point they have another thing coming.

Why not a direct replacement ?

That's literally THE only reason I'm going down the Asus RMA route rather than sending it back to OCUK and waiting a week for them to turn the monitor on and say "Oh yeah a dead pixel" :p

I really don't want a refurbished screen as I paid for new. I have a 120hz Benq screen here so i wont be without in the mean time :)

Ahh gotcha, Well refurbs are usually as good as new as they have had a full treatment so to me that's no biggy, I'd go the new replacement route but I really cannot afford to be without a monitor due to work and if I have any more issues I have another 3 years to do direct replacements :)

Well since my last post my Swift has just developed a 2nd dead pixel.

Never had a monitor like this that just literally falls apart.

*EDIT*

Decided to just get a refund as I've still got a few days left.

I have to phone up tomorrow, This is a shame but after seeing so many people I personally know go through the exact same thing or worse I just don't want a monitor that slowly fails.

Shame really as Asus were on to a good thing with all the features this monitor packs.

*2nd EDIT*

On 2nd thought I'll just use the direct replacement feature, Having looked at the current monitors there aren't any that match performance and aesthetics both at the same time.

Received my replacement from Asus on Thursday. I did an at the door replacement due to a dead pixel. New monitor (Well refurbished) seems nice and haven't noticed any issues with it.

Only problem I have is that when the monitor is on stand-by (No active connection coming through), the monitor seems to be in some kind of testing mode where it flashes between colours until an active signal is found or it is turned off.

Can't seem to find anything on the googlings about it, so was wondering if anyone else has had one back that is doing this?

Just sounds like yet another Asus fault to me to be honest.

So just checking if this is the pixel inversion issue people keep refering to.

At the 10 min mark if you look at the lightning of the sun you can see very obvious vertical line artifacts. I'm not sure if its just due to the camera though.

Saw something similiar in the LinusTechTips video review if you forward it to the 1:11 mark, you can see very obvious lines on the right side especially when the sky is blue.

Seems pretty unacceptable so I'm finding it hard to believe Asus would produce such a flawed property into its highly premium monitors.
Lets put it this way, even if it was unnoticable supposedly, we can say the same thing about screen tearing. Nobody ever cared about screen tearing untill G-Sync, so obviously its noticeable to a degree.
Now I don't own the Swift, but from what I'm thinking here, if my screen was plagued by vertical line artifacts like in that video I linked, that is even more bothersome then screen tearing itself ever was. I've not seen such behaviour of a panel in any TN I've owned, ever.

So I have a 6 week old BenQ XL2420G that is a fantastic screen....but im sitting further away then I had planned and regret not buying the Swift now.....

This thread does read like a bit of a horror story though, but as usual only guys with issues will be here......i hope.

Or is it really a complete lottery with a high chance of getting a duffer ?

I was considering upgrading , but not so sure now ;-)
I'm in the same boat. My BenQ is treating me well, its a great panel, but I regret not going for slightly larger. I guess 27 inch would suit me better with 1440p res. I have mixed feelings as well though, due the Swift supposedly being a ''ticking time bomb''. Last time I went trough such horrors was buying a brand new Xbox 360 at launch, holy crap you don't want to know how many 360's I RMA'd. And look at M$ now, oh how the mighty have fallen. :p

I want the Swift tbh, and no I'm not nor will I ever be interested in any of Acer's panels. I'm probably gonna sell my XL2420G and wait for the 980 TI or 390X then decide from there on wheter I go for the Free-Sync MG279Q or G-Sync PG278Q.
