The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

You do not like my input do not read and I bet you are not even in the market for this screen unlike myself.

What I said was 100% on topic and fact, this screen and G-Sync has been around news wise since 2013.

You and the other poster are simply tolling adding nothing to what I posted or the thread.

Now you can GO AWAY once again (will be for last time) : This message is hidden because Sin_Chase is on your ignore list.

Why are you in the market for vapourware.

Have the courage of your convictions, stop waiting for said vaopurware and go buy something else.

No new news has been received beyond the expected July release yet you want to cry like a baby about 'vapourware'

You have posted no fact at all. You appear to not even know what the term vapourware is. There has been no official release date, no dates have been missed and there is physical hardware in circulation for demo. 'Missing' a date that has not been announced does not make a product vapourware. Your so called input is trash, I'll challenge you on your trash.

To be fair the comment about vapourware added literally nothing to this thread. Asus have announced that they are releasing in July this month to the world. Let's hope they make good on their promise.

It wont. IPS will always smash a TN out of the water IQ wise. From what I have read/heard though the TN panel for the ROG Swift is of the better TN variety. So hopefully it will be good, but not IPS good.

IPS will always smash TN out of the water?
"After calibration, the PB287Q represents colors slightly more accurately overall than the IPS-based PB278."

"My son and I cycled through a series of landscape pictures from InterfaceLift on the PB287Q and the PB278, side by side, trying to discern the differences between the two. They were really hard to pick out. With most images, the color reproduction was essentially equivalent."

"A year ago, I would have recommended a 27" IPS panel for a PC enthusiast considering this class of desktop monitor. Now, I'd recommend the PB287Q for most folks, instead"

That's good news for everyone if true. I have a pretty expensive/newish TN panel and the colours are so far away from the HP LP2475W IPS that sits next to it that it's unreal.

I'm not sure if those quotes are a glowing review of the TN panel or if the IPS they had was naff though :D

Must admit, taken at face value that's a pretty decent, open review there, and it bodes well for the 'new round' of TN panels.

Thing is though, when it comes to visuals I don't trust ANYBODY'S eyes except my own.

This is a very valid point, the only thing is that to my eyes the Samsung 4k is every bit as good as the IPS I have next to it, and no one here (who hasnt also made the jump) believed me, so it is nice to have an independent reviewer both say the same thing as well as have actual test data to back it up

I thoroughly recommend people to get eyes on with some of the new TN's before writing them of "because TN"

What you're doing is mainly trolling. G-Synch (in terms of products to reach market) is so far effectively vapourware, yes.

As I'm sure you know, though, this monitor was not known about or announced in 2013. It was revealed at CES in early January. Indeed, the thread dates from this time - January the 6th.

Hmmm. Interesting. I might re-think the rog swift then. Or even the supposed Acer 4k with Gsync. I really think gsync is going to be a game changer for me.

Am very wary of buying any new monitors at the moment though. Seems to be no quality control and lots of issues around.

Yes, even having the Samsung 4k already, I am going to get some eyes on time with the Acer when it comes out and then see about shifting the Samsung if it is as good as they say

I think the main part people are missing is that it's 8bit, that's 16.7 million colours as opposed to the usual 6bit which is 262000. That in itself is a massive leap forward in colour reproduction.

This is massively true.

But is it all fur coat and no knickers? The underlying tech of TN is still largely the same is it not, so there are still advantages with IPS over TN, apart from just viewing angles.

Is making a TN panel 8bit colour like putting 2 coats of lipstick on a monkey? (phwooar)

For gaming I don't see why people need super accurate colour reproduction anyway, yes it's nicer if it is better which this 8 bit TN will be but I'd take lower input lag, higher hz and gsync over IPS any day.

I really don't know how people play fast twitch shooters on IPS panels it puts you at a straight disadvantage right away and then there's the motion blur which was horrific when I tried BF4 on my mates.

Well the main gripes with TN seem to be colour shift and colour reproduction, so if the colour issue is (largely) solved by moving to 8 bit then it's just the colour shift which again is largely a non issue if you sit directly in front of the monitor.

Personally IPS has too many drawbacks for me to want another for gaming, I play predominately fps and a blurry 60hz doesn't cut it.
