The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

My pc will be built and monitor-less by the end of the month...I hope they don't mess this one up. I would really like to know some more solid details, why are Asus being so cagey about the release date. I want a date and price! :P

This reminds me of DAYZ. Loads of videos and no actual product... but then the product comes out and it sucks... please no ASUS!! Don't follow LG's issues with their latest product and throw out dodgy panels

I will drop some knowledge in for a few of the previous posts on the Eizo 2421 because i have spent quite a bit reading on a new monitor and have still to make up my mind considering there is:

LG 34" 21:9 60hz 4K
LG 29" 21:9 75hz 1080p
FG2421 16:9 120hz 1080p
ROG PG 278Q 16:9 120hz 1440p

There are downsides to all of them and the choice is not easy and price is not a factor. The Eizo FG2421 has blacks and whites superior to them all but 240HZ dimms the picture and skews Gamma and brightness and it causes issues with colors and a circular bleeding and color changing on the sides. A few people said they hope Sharp do a second model but what i have heard is the returns might make Eizo exit because this is an industrial monitor that costs £6000 using parts that failed quality control and can become affordable for £400. There is also a post you can google on futurmark forums about it going EOL soon and big retailers might not restock them.

The ROG seems great and like the Eizo it simply will not do the proper shades of greens in games or will likely have some sort of blue shift no panel but the IPS will get rid off. Then again IPS can offer 75HZ and a 21:9 ratio with the Asus and AOC versions having great color accuracy 99% SRGB and response times around 12ms almost perfectly syncing with 75HZ frametimes.

Overlord (Korea) are also in line with Nvidia sometimes after Asus to get a G-SYNC IPS panel that hopefully will OC to 90-100HZ. They too color shift and gamma skew with overclocking so will not be perfect either. Not to mention not being allowed to discuss them here once they launch or have to RMA to Asia. I will probably make my mine up in the next month once i see Asus translation of "premium TN" in color terms. I do not plan on doing any acrobatics when i game so the viewing angles never really bother me that much.

Thanks guys people probably need all they can get trying to navigate which to buy. You could buy any of the above and be really unhappy about your purchase.

Ultrawide and 75hz will look narrow vertically and not be as smooth as full on 120. The Eizo will probably make you cry about lightbleed and colors and the ROG is probably going to make you cry about colors and price. Which is why i will keep track of it because 1440p really is the "sweet spot" because it suits almost everyone. People who want less AA and more pixels can drop AA and get thier wish. And those who want extra resolution of 1440p and want more AA like me can also be happy. BF4 only goes to 4X MSAA and at 1080p i still see some jaggies i would like to get rid of at 8X but as it is not even in the options it means 1400p+ is required to keep me happy.

Definitely still waiting on this ROG - agree than angles mean diddly to me as a gamer sat square on all the time anyway and am keen to give this monitor a chance to prove colours can be good enough on a TN to satisfy me. Speed, lag and gsync are all of big interest plus the wife can't stop me buying anything right now :)

It's not a question of EOL or not being restocked. It was a limited production run and production ended long ago.

Eizo won't do another run / produce a new model unless there's demand for more units of the professional model, or Sharp manage to significantly reduce the cost of the panel / increase yields.

I'm sure Eizo knew from the beginning that there would be problems with it, as the panels are ones which weren't good enough to be used in the more expensive model. But not doing this model would probably make the other model unviable.

Given that the FG2421 should outsell the industrial one at least 10:1, you can probably appreciate that yields for 'good' panels are likely to be extremely low, given how practically all units seem to have defects (to a greater or lesser degree).

No word on pricing but Gibbo said something along the lines of "Even at £999 which is still overpriced they will still sell out"

I think we are in for a big shock. Absolutely no way I will get one of the first batch if we are being super gouged on limited availability. I can wait.

Don't think we shall be looking at anything too steep. There are a lot of G-Sync monitors coming out over the next 6 months and Asus will want to keep up competition.
I doubt this will be the only 1440p 144hz monitor we will see this year aswell.
Any word on whether it runs 3d (at native 1440 or downscaled)?
