The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

So basically that review wasn't a review at all but more of a first look with some links to products used/mentioned added in for good measure.
Nothing about the gamma shift of the panel which at one of the shows was reported to be pretty bad even for tn panel (though we can't go of a pre-production model so need to see retail units to confirm).

The UK price gouging bit just annoyed me as it usually does when you see a product with such a big discrepancy. Maybe once they are release the actual uk price will drop from the pre-order price.

Are there any proper, worthy reviews out for it yet? seems odd that there aren't more to me. Anyone else find that a bit odd?

why the product was only just finished very recently

Reviews are typically done pre product launch, so that they're ready to go live for the official launch. When releases deviate from this, it's usually because something is a bit up, like the Titan Z, nVidia seemingly didn't want anyone reviewing them because they knew just how obscenely poor and offensive their pricing to performance ratio is.

That's not the case with monitor reviews. Pre-release units are quite rare actually. :)

It's unusual for there not to be several German reviews by the time noteworthy monitors become available. German availibility for the Swift should be the beginning of next week (so a week away). So unless ASUS / NVIDIA are being cagey, we should know a week from now ... but given the first 'review', there's every chance of that.

Yes, German pre-press samples are usually available, that's true. Sometimes monitors are released there before infiltrating other EU markets as well. I feel ASUS and Nvidia want to make sure everything is 'just right' (or as right as it can be) before the reviews start flooding in. Here in the UK there certainly aren't any official review samples doing the rounds yet. But I wouldn't expect there to be until late this month at the earliest.

I can see this turning into another watchdogs style thread, full of hype and anticipation but then when the product arrives it turns out to be dissapointing.

I hope I am wrong though as I'm much looking forward to this monitor.

Much as I don't trust NVIDIA, and they have some very shady practices, I don't think they're quite in Ubisoft's league yet for disappointing, overhyped products (TitanZ & Shield excepted).

Personally think the Shield is an awwsome product where it is today. Otherwise i agree with you.

I've had 120hz monitors in the past and not been impressed, switched to 1440p happily, but I'm intrigued, so I'll test side by side and see if I still prefer resolution over refresh

Fair enough. 4k looks amazing in slow games and 4k movie, but can't stand it for games like BF4, COD or any racing game or any fast paced game infact.

I know you've said that before a few times, I have no issues with 60hz though, just with some games themselves not being very supportive of 4K, which is why I would be tempted by the 4K Gsync to help smooth over those issues

But this monitor isn't IPS and costs double what the average 1440p monitor costs, if it wasn't so overpriced it might be worth it, I guess because it is the only 120/144HZ 1440p out there they (Asus) think they can charge this. Hopefully it will have a massive price drop :P

Maybe it's just a issue with me. I have a problem with 60hz. It's just not fast enough for me.
