The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

Oh yeah totally finished. It arrived lunch time. I'm not going to publish it for a week though to wind everyone up :p

(Hopefully get it done mid next week if I can)

Trying to drive a 4K display at 60 fps or there abouts is much harder than a 2560*1440 display.

2560x1440 @ 144 Hz is actually a bit more demanding on the GPU(s) than 4K @ 60 Hz. As for the CPU demand, it's WAY more taxing, around 2.5 times as much.

Baddass you just may be the first to review ULMB mode. I know you have an oscilloscope, so if you could measure strobe duration at different brightness settings, and also see what the min/max is in Hz for ULMB strobing mode that would be great. ;)

I'd love to know if this display can match the 1.4ms MPRT strobe clarity of the older 10% brightness setting Lightboost displays.

"Only $799 in America but £720 in UK ($1235)."

This has put me off this monitor.

We bend over every day when purchasing electronic goods.

OEM added margin for UK + UK TAX + Retailer margin = yuk!

The US price includes retailer margin but not state taxes.

I was wondering why a monitor with a TN panel was so expensive and pushing nearly £700.

Know I know why - UK ripoff pricing. Even with 20% VAT,the Asus should be around £550.

In the US the RRP(not street price) of the Dell U2713HM is the same as the Asus, but the street price is around 10% to 20% lower, which means the Asus should be around £550.

To put in context the street price of the U2713HM in the US is similar(if not slightly higher) to that in the UK if VAT was added.

It seems Asus considers its UK customers mugs!

Go! Go! ROG Branding.

I can actually order the rog swift here in denmark with an expected delivery date of 24 juli 2014 for 620 pounds and thats with shipping.

Denmark has 25% VAT and a higher cost of living too,yet the monitor is over £660 here.

That is just taking the utter ****!

New REVIEW here guys!
Will check it out right now myself but couldent help out and show you first :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-u-6i_RJRI

In the first minute he says, it's as good as any of the IPS he have used, he CANT see any difference. So there we have it again, this screen is AWESOME and now back to listening more on the review :D

In the end of the review, around 19 min in he says that he have NEVER seen such a good TN panel before, even tho he obviously dont seems to know much e.x 8 or 10 bit or any fancy testing/ ULMB bla bla.

But atleast he have eyes to see, and those are telling that they are seying something that looks a lot better then any TN panel before and even better then some of the older IPS and right as good as any of the newer IPS :D

Thats all I need to know, it will be without a doubt the best gaming monitor ever done, take my money Asus, straight away :D

Ooh and about g-sync, well it's a miracle but that we allready know dident we ;)

He's just videoing some BF4 gameplay with G-Synch enabled. It's in no way a proper review. Best tidbit - "I'm shooting so much better with G-Synch" ... closely followed by "I've never played BF4 before, I'm more of a CoD man". Also makes no mention at any point of whether it feels meaningfully smoother with G-Synch enabled (on V-Synch) than V-Synch off, as he's on a beefy machine.

Another bad review by what looks like an Asus fanboy.

Lists specs, says it looks as good as IPS, doesn't use a colorimeter or any kind of test equipment, plays some BF4 which runs smooth on his 2x780 (who would have thought?) and then shows us the OSD settings.

Just have to wait for Baddass to get his real review done next week :)

I would not call that a review at all more like an overview of the monitor itself :p wait for the TFT CENTRAL review to come out :)

Well haters gonna hate huh :/

I did said he doesent seems to know much, but atleast the ******* dude have eye's to look with doesent he!

Of course we all would like a proper review but this is better then nothing and confirms how good the monitor really is.

It will be way better then any of us will need for gaming, just as good as an IPS is damn fine with me.

It's a gaming screen for ***** sake and I belive it will be the best TN panel ever made and again thats damn fine with me you wackers :D

Either your deductive powers are severely lacking, or you're an ASUS / NVIDIA troll.

I don't think he's trying to hide he's promoting ASUS's RoG brand because like everything in the background and foreground is ASUS branded including the PC and he's wearing a RoG T-Shirt lol =)

That guy definitely not InSync with reality :p

I've never seen someone get so angry over something they're buying regardless of reviews, sounds more like he's trying to justify the cost himself than anything.

That video is definitely not a review either.

Review didn't add much to previous reviews but I did like the fact that the guy didn't mince his words. Was interesting to note that he mentioned that the GSYNC needs to be deactivated in the nvidia control panel. Using just the OSD caused some sort of lag.

He's not doing it regardless of reviews because as you pointed out it hasn't been reviewed properly and the reviews that are available are biased in his favour =)

Any chance you could give us a couple of sentences based on your initial impression?

Could be teething problems with the first version of G-Sync and/or the display drivers.
Also I could have sworn I heard somewhere that to use G-Sync you have to set you refresh rate to 120Hz rather than 144Hz as it doesn't work at 144.
