The Battlefield 4 Thread 2015

looks like a 980ti will batter 970sli in everything to be fair Haz.

And i'll be on tonight I expect.

Plus, I've just put a 980ti in my basket, I need to wait to see what AMD brings to the table on Tuesday, but im getting very impatient. I've almost hit checkout twice already lol

Or not.. ;)

If you’re thinking SLI/CF will win by a landslide, it depends on what game and settings you’re running. On average, 970 SLI is only 5-10 percent faster than the 980 Ti, but depending on the game it may be as much as 20 percent faster...or 15 percent slower. For such a small overall gain in performance, we’d take the 980 Ti. The added VRAM will likely prove more beneficial with time, with several newer releases already using more than 4GB VRAM at maximum quality and high resolutions, and it leaves the door open to 980 Ti SLI in the future. And single card solutions are almost always better—some games simply don't offer good SLI/CrossFire support, especially with launch drivers.

It's still impressive that a single GPU card is so close to 970sli though.
Also Ti has the advantage of using less power than 2x970, less chance of microsutter, no need for SLI profile., more VRAM for >1440p (Although GSYNC is my answer to microstutter)

I haven't seen any direct BF4 comparisons though.

Good man :)

Yeah I was supposed to be going out  but I'm ill :(.

Take some man pills and play!! :p

Can't argue with those, but how often do we see FUD graphs though mate. I've watched a few comparison vids on Youtube of GTA V, Witcher and BF4 that show an overclocked 980ti beating 980gtx sli at 4k.

4K I can understand, 6GB VRAM > 4GB VRAM (or even 3.5GB ;) ). A pair of 970s have more maxwell cores than one 980Ti and at a higher clock. So at 1080p I'd expect 970 SLI to win every time, a mix at 1440p and then crown goes to Ti @ 4K.

Even so I don't think a Ti is enough for 4K if you want high frame rates. Either on core count or VRAM. Roll on Pascal for 4K

For me it's about less power, less heat, less noise and importantly less of a chance of issues. Tony do you know if the 980Ti is compatible with free sync? If not then I would go with a 390x as free sync gsync is next level bud

No idea how you get this kind of performance...impressive looks like the 295x2 is rubbish against your crossfire...

so what frames are you getting then dude? This is why I've never gone to Mantle, I've never needed it. When I was on 1080, I used to use 150% res scale and 2xmsaa and locked my frames to 90 (on my old 60hz screen it was the sweet spot) but now I'm on 1440p, I have to turn it down to 120% and msaa x2. Only time it really tanks is when the normal buildings come down, in really explosive areas...but running around maps im hitting between 90 and 120fps most of the time. Reason I'm sitting there is because I like to keep my cards under 70 degrees..I dont like them burning out....7950's are incredible little cards mate.

no its not compatible mate, but i'm getting increasingly tired of AMD by the day mate. Was just going to use the screen as the screen comes at 144hz, it's still an incredible screen without freesync. And I'd never get the 390x, rebrand is a rebrand lol..I'd have to go for the HBM Fury X mate, but at 4gb VRAM, I'm a little limited wouldn't you agree.

I'll be interested to see how the memory bandwith stacks up against gddr5.

On paper it looks crap but Until it's benched I'm not sure.

If that dx12 thing about memory pooling is correct then by the time you've eaten 4gb you'd probably be looking at a second card for the horsepower not just memory and the pooling plus higher bandwith might make a huge difference.

Seems stupid to limit performance gains to xfire setups though.

My main concern with HBM is heat disapation with memory chips stacked then there's going to be issues unless they're significantly cooler than gddr5.

I have 1080...there was someone on TS who was talking about some kind of program that analyses fps (anyone knows ???) maybe I can use this to find out what exactly i am getting in a game...the cpu spikes happen randomly however meaning its not provoked by explosion or anything...which makes it harder to simulate.

do you not have msi afterburner installed mate? Just get the overlay on.

With that custom config setup I gave you, there is a fps included mate that gets displayed top right. This is the line that gives you the fps counter "PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1"

I got that with a graph shown since day one so I can see when the cpu spike happen but I cannot average fps cos I cant really look at the fps all the time.

Don't even need msi afterburner for that (which doest work on Mantle anyway)

will see what happens on Tuesday. If it comes in under £600 with water cooling included, then I might bite. Will have to see.

I would be very surprised given blocks are around £70+ these days. Free sync will be a real game changer for you so it's really worth considering going the AMD route or selling your monitor for a GSYNC model but that's going to be expensive.

Regarding water cooling I would personally buy the card you need and then plan out your h20 build holistically. If you're not in a hurry then it could be done on the cheap via MM. There are always good deals going which will keep costs down for you.
