The Battlefield 4 Thread 2015

And yeah, I badly want a new GPU + monitor but no point doing anything now..... not with new GPU's around the corner + DX 12 games + HDR and possibly OLED monitors (probably nearer the end of the year this though) :(

Will Pascal be the death nail in AMD? I really hope not. My wallet is primed and ready in any case.

@Westie - I had a tropical fish tank when I was younger - lots of Angel Fish. Fish, or fush as Kiwi's pronounce it are cool.

I had goldfish when I was younger, I called them Buffy and Angel :D :o :p

Haven't really followed the stuff too much but last I read, supposedly AMD will be better with their polaris GPU's this year and will have them out before pascal too. Either way, I can't see there being too much difference in overall performance and efficiency etc. I just hope both perform similar and we have a price war as I really don't want to spend more than £400 on a GPU!

The only thing that would stop me from buying pascal is if there is no support for adaptive/free sync.

They won't. Not in a hurry anyway. They should but they won't.
We still don't have standardised fluid mechanics/physics. Let alone hair fluff.

Unless someone like intel pops in with freesync support it won't happen.

I hope AMD's next GPU competes. I think it's unlikely to be rubbish though.

Anyway haven't you got a match to win?

I think big pascal, whenever that arrives will be an absolute monster - 16nm FinFet, HBM2. I suspect that won't arrive until the end of the year (talking full fat here) so I'll probably hold on to my 980ti until then.

I've learnt my lesson buying the cut down versions of cards - full fat all the way. Hopefully I'm wrong and they align the release with BF5. That would be cool.

It is hard to say as even with gsync being out for over a year longer, we have way more choice, not only in various brands but panel types for freesync. The only ones who really seem to be investing heavily into gsync are acer and asus with only 1 or 2 gsync monitors by benq, dell and AOC.

I think gsync will become a niche product in the long run like nvidia's 3d vision thing, a more advanced version of sync tech. for people willing to pay the extra.

With adaptive/free sync being built into display port 1.3, I don't think nvidia can avoid it hardware wise but they "could" disable it via their drivers, if so..... hopefully someone will create a hack/mod to overcome that.... Nvidia would be stupid to not offer support imo.

Also, intel have announced future support for adaptive/free sync too:

And no, can't play now, besides, I thought the matches were on Sundays???

The flipside is that nvidia continue to improve the technology going beyond what freesync is capable of (lower latency / less input lag). There is still room for improvement.

I'd forgotten intel announced they would support adaptive sync. Even if it doesn't turn out to be as good as GSYNC it's a big step forward as once it's on the IGPs, monitor manufacturers will all probably have support in their range.
If it works as well as GSYNC, even better.

Mybad, I thought it was Friday for some reason.

The only thing that really separates g and free sync atm is the range at which they work, gsync is universally better where as freesync, it is hit and miss although that is more dependant on the scaler being used by the monitor man + gsync potentially allows a slight OC on the refresh rate.

I just wish there were more 34" 1440 free/g sync monitors, the prices on the few are utterly stupid.

And yeah, I don't think I can play tomorrow either.
