Did anyone else think the brightness or somethign was off on that map yesterday, the spawn screen map seemed way over bright or something, could hardly see the flags..

good job its not actually "released" and you're helping them beta test it before release.

You do remember the purpose of beta testing right ?

Job well done community in making sure that didn't make it out in release :)

I do and point taken (glad this was picked up) - but it not necessarily the damage but the fact they have added yet another gadget which has a very low skill ceiling and encourages camping.

We have had quite a run of these recently - the UCAV being the most notable - they they have ported the kill-streak directly from COD.

Why not add different weapons which are difficult to master but very effective once you do. Why not add more maps which are specific to game modes?

It just seems to me that they are putting their efforts in the wrong direction.

You do know the main game has been out nearly a year now and its still not working for many? EA don't listen to the community they chase cod money. CTE is a desperate attempt to retain customers for future EA games.

That rail gun is beyond stupid.

Question is, how did they not notice that it has the 'ridiculous invisible explosion' to begin with?

Obviously they did very little testing before releasing it to CTE...

Are you getting confused. The SC42 is just another stationary defense weapon like the 50 Cal Machine Guns and the Tripod Mounted TOWs dotted around the map. Its not a gadget.

Sure its ridiculous at the minute, but once you remove the stupid explosions its just another capture point defense weapon, and I suspect a crap one. I doubt it will be that much use once the explosive shells have been removed. It appears to currently fire a canister shell like projectile. Once they remove the stupid explosion I suspect it will be no more use than the tank's canister shell and be largely ignored.

People's problems with the games are largely down to their own issues - not the games. The only bug that means the game "doesn't work" is a memory leak for some AMD users. And even then doesn't work is a bit of stretch. It does work, its just annoying that you have to quit and restart so often to top up the memory.

DICE have always been crap at testing. Long before EA ever got involved. Cast your mind back to Battlefield 2 1.02 patch that completely broke the game and they had to recall completely and re wind all servers back to 1.01.

CTE is an opportunity to get patches right, and the ammount of work they've put into the upcoming patch and the last is monumental. This development work should have been done before release - and the release date pushed back as BF4 simply wasn't ready on release. But that's no reason to dismiss what the CTE does.

Question is, how did they not notice that it has the 'ridiculous invisible explosion' to begin with?

They don't need to do much testing, because that's what CTE is for. Hence "Community Test Environment" No point giving the community stuff to test if you then double up and do all the testing you need in house anyway. They possibly knew about it and released it anyway - but hey, its a beta test. You're not on the CTE to have the expansion packs early as some seem to think, you're there to play a potentially broken game and help them fix it.

Stop with all these camos, new weapons, gadgets, double xp etc. and just concentrate on map design, balance (done a better job than they did with bf 3 in this area) and the basic game mechanics.

We don't need:

- 5+ gadgets to all do the same thing
- 4+ AA weapons
- 15+ scopes
- 20+ camos

etc. etc.

The only thing DICE have done right is this CTE stuff i.e. actually properly testing things before releasing to the main game.

But IMO....... all of this stuff is FAR too late now, these improvements should have been released at LEAST 4 months ago.

How is the hovertank? Do you use the mouse to turn the whole thing now or is it still tied to the A and D keys?

If it's anything like the 2142 version, and it seems to be according to lvlcap's video the turret doesn't rotate at all, the turret is fixed and the tank itself turns. Movement is now independent of the turret. It's a bit weird to begin with but you get used to it. Makes it very manoeuvrable to avoid hits though as you can strafe. If you get really good with it you can circle a tank or building. If the opposition tank driver doesn't have their mouse speed high enough you can do it faster than they can turn their turret.

The CTE should not replace basic unit, integration and quality testing.

Thing is, what else are they going to do to pad out the DLC.

They've always just added stuff like that in the DLC. You've already admitted the map design is better in 4 and that's about the only thing the DLC team will be looking at.

The people who need to get the game right - the CTE team and it's developers have been focusing on improving the game, there are loads of really good improvements both in the last "High Frequency Update" patch and the new patch coming this month. The change list for these patches is huge they contain that many bug fixes.

The people creating all the new weapons, vehicles etc.. are the guys responsible for creating the new DLC and won't be working to fix issues with CTE.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Stuff like the number of unlocks and camos is a personal choice. It doesn't actually take that much development time. The camos afterall are the same 8 or so patterns but with lots of different colour pallettes. The camos probably took a good texture artist a week or two to knock up.
