The Big WWE Wrestling Thread

To me, it just seems like they are trying to copy ECW but they have proven time and time again they allways mess up when trying to emulate something else which another company did.

Look at the current "ECW" - The last ECW title match I saw ended in a DQ, a DQ? What the heck is that about, it is the ECW belt, you dont have DQ's. They just get it wrong in my opinion and have no doubts that PPV will fail.

Big Show Vs Cena is good so far though.

ECW is just a brand like Raw and Smackdown now. Name and past doesn't mean anything really.

Well that was pretty mediocre at best really. All the matches were okay, but that was it. Nothing amazing at all.

Having Cena pull the injury angle just deflated all the hype from his match - it was a case of waiting for him to hit a finisher and win. Orton just spent the match trying to get DQ'd, and Edge and Hardy was going better until Matt intervened, again.

I think i'm going to join the long list who pay only for the big events. It's just not worth £15 a pop. I'd not pay a fiver for last night tbh.

5/10.

Reading that Tute I'm glad I didnt part with the cash, there honestly wasnt one match on that card that I really looked forward to. Taker and Michaels are sorely needed on nights like this to give some decent match.

Extreme rules however....well we'll see, this will be free however and be shown on SS :)

I'm glad Sky do a policy of "one Box Office, one Sky Sports" as it means that we get free PPVs as well.

It's just that all the matches, well, they were only up to the standard of a main event RAW or SD. Nothing better than that really.

What bothered me as well is that Cena took those chest shots from Big Show and still went on to win the match. Yet that's the same shots that knocked out Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, even Edge. So what makes Cena so special?

One Night Stand, as it was called last year, was a good event last time. It culminated in UT crashing through a stack of tables and getting banished from the WWE. So i'm looking forward to it.

If we have a surprise return of some ECW regulars it will be good :)

Wouldnt surprise me to see a RVD appearance!

Not a bad event last night IMO

CM Punk v Umaga was a good solid start to the event, followed by a equally solid match between Christian and Swagger (although not as good as last month's Backlash match). Morrison v Benjamin the ppv could have really done without to be honest even if it did have the chance of stealing the show alas it was pretty rubbish in truth as is the whole Morrison face idea.... could have done without the Miz segment also

Jericho v Mysterio for me was arguably the match of the night although I did really enjoy Orton v Batista as well.... well until the rubbish DQ ending and the return of Flair

Cena v Big Show was an utter bore fest, dont understand why after all the wins against the Undertaker that Big Show had last year he wasn't put over last night

Hardy/Edge wasn't bad and in truth might of actually been really good had I not been so tired, dunno whether to like or hate the Matt Hardy run in at the end but I guess at least it opens an avenue for some kind of gimmick between the two at next months Extreme Rules PPV

Overall better (albeit not as news worthy as) than last months Backlash

My take:

CM Punk v Umaga - Decent match to kick the PPV off but Punk losing again on PPV? Way to build him up as a challenger

Swagger v Christian - Was poor if I'm honest but the way it finished.. there will probably be another match in there

Morrison v Benjamin - Great match. Morrison is pulling some really good moves and is a great face.

Jericho v Rey - Best match of the PPV, the reversals were good and could have been even better given a bit more time.

Orton v Batista - Dragged on a bit and I just don't think it works between them.

Cena v Big Show - Crap. Worst match of the event. Show is becoming awful in the big matches. He kills the crowd.

Edge v Jeff - Another good match but was annoying to see Matt get involved again. We'll probably see another Extreme rules match between them with Edge facing Punk or Undertaker on return.

Two matches have been made for Extreme Rules then, Steel Cage match between Orton and Batista and a Submission match between Cena and Big Show

Both rather uninspiring if you ask me, Batista will no doubt lose by being outsmarted much the same way he did a couple of years ago during his feud with Edge and Cena/Big Show is just a way of forcing Cena to hit the STFU on Big Show (something he couldn't do at JDay)

All resting on Smackdown to save this event already

It doesn't seem very "extreme" so far.

Where have all the TLC matches gone? Parking Lot Brawls? Hell, i'd love an Inferno match, why not get Kane in on that one?

I honestly have no clue how Randy Orton has a higher overall than Batista on smackdown vs raw 2009... When orton doesnt even have the guts to face him 1 on 1.

As far as strength, technique, and power are concerned, it's probably quite close with Orton in front.

Being a snivelling, slithering, slimy little worm is part of his character at the moment, and now he's going to be locked in a cage with Batista, he won't be able to escape and that helps build extra hype.

It's not the first time Orton's done it either, remember when Cena returned from injury early last year?

That's one of the WWE's biggest flaws these days IMO, obviously there were circumstances attached to the way Triple H was portrayed when he was the top heel in the company between 2000 and 2006 but when he was the top heel in the company he didn't need to constantly take short cuts to win matches and hold onto titles...... he just hit everyone with Sledge Hammers behind the ref's back :D ...... however these days every time a heel is the champ the only ever hold onto their belts by getting counted out, getting DQ'd or have someone run in on their behalf.

Jericho's title run late last year was like watching Edge all over again and he wasn't even a member of the active roster at that time! I really hoped this Orton run would be different from that but following Judgement Day I've now got my doubts.

It seems the only time any of these heel champions ever get clean wins these days is if they're facing HBK or someone deemed not to be a proper main-eventer i.e. your Jeff Hardy's, Rey Mysterio's or CM Punk's.

There was no reason why they couldn't of given Orton a clean win over Batista at Judgement Day and still continue their feud into the next ppv :(

WWE writers have always been notorious for doing things by the book, it was only during the Attitude era that things slightly changed.

It's always been a Heel must win by cheating and only win cleanly if you want to finish the feud with him winning. Unfortunately the writers are also so stuck up Vince's arse it's ridiculous and I'd imagine they just want to keep him happy.

If they wanted to carry the feud on but have Orton win cleanly, they're probably worried about Batista's image... but they could have finished with a quick roll up or something like that and just have it look like Orton outsmarted Batista rather than out-wrestled him.

Incidentally RAW next week could be very interesting, since the WWE and the NBA have double booked the Pepsi Centre in Denver (it's the playoffs in the NBA) and it doesn't look like the WWE have an arena for next week.

Vince is milking the publicity of the double booking for all he's worth, and has said he'll do RAW in the parking lot at the Pepsi Centre if he has too.

Because Kane is unfortunately wasted these days.

Hell I was surprised they let him win a match in a PPV this year, never usually happens.

Well it's a crying shame.

Even a Brothers of Destruction run with Undertaker would be most welcome.
