The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

Lol, I'll wait a while to "smart" my house until they're more reasonably priced. I'll stick to getting up off my lazy arse and flicking the switch. Can't justify that amount just for lazy lights and I think we're sedentary enough as it is :p

Replacing the switch isn't any cheaper..LightwaveRF for example...

Lighting Starter Kit (Hub and single switch) = £185
Smart Dimmer Switch (Single Gang) = £60
Smart Dimmer Switch (2-gang) = £99

And then the cost of the bulbs on top...it starts mounting up. Around £1,200 for my house and its only a 3 bedroom.
True they're not cheap... But I think the implementation is better (even if the app isn't as swish). But you do already have the bulbs of course too, as you just use any bulbs which you likely already have installed

Hue is really overpriced and a total luxury but really cool.
Its little things like watching Finding Dory with my 3 and 5 year olds and making all of the lights in the front room various shades of blue so it looks like an ocean that i love

I agree that lightwave is a better option but not all bulbs are compatible.

Plus Hue eco system is so much bigger with sensors, switches, Lamps, light strips and you can add to it as you go.

Each to their own I guess. Before long I think everything in the home will be smart

You've spent £1200 so you can turn lights on and off with an app?!

No! I've saved 33-40% during the last week in sales. I've spent £500 on hue bulbs and that's the whole house (35 bulbs).

But at the same time I've spent £200 on 4 bottles of aftershave for myself so all relative.

Who no doubt spent most of their time on a SMART phone :-)

Do you bathe in aftershave or something? 1 bottle lasts me like 2-3 years lol

I want to get my wife a new tablet and I’m looking at one of these. Our iPads have all but ground to a halt and I want to try out Alexa. The price always seems too good to be true though.

It's early days but for the price, hugely impressed. I was worried that the 10 would be cumbersome both in shape and weight. For my purposes and watching video's its great, as long as you have realistic expectations (e.g. thinking a Fire will match Apple) nevertheless iPlayer and the like are perfectly watchable. During testing I noticed there was a slight bit of backlight bleed on mine, I just applied gentle pressure and the image is now consistent.

I was not sure about the 'widescreen' shape of the 10, however, both in portrait and landscape - feel fine when holding. I do like that when watching films it fills the whole screen; Whereas with an iPad, a lot of screen estate was wasted - unless you zoomed in. Still early days with Alexa and I have not really delved into its usage possibilities. Out of the box, I asked Alexa when the F1 qualifying was on and it came back with a correct answer. No voice training and out of the box is pretty impressive!

Thanks for your detailed reply! I think I’m sold on the kindle fire HD over the galaxy tab due to the price.

I switched from a slow iPad 2 last year and I've never looked back. I upgraded iOS because it kept nagging me, and it totally broke my iPad. I didn't even use it for any intense use but it ran like rubbish in the end. I chose the Fire HD8 and it's brilliant for what I use it for. I watch Netflix, SkyGo, Amazon Video and browse the Internet. My little boy plays Farming Simulator 17 and Minecraft, and I'm happy for him to use it because it cost me £80. I don't think I'll ever buy an iPad again. The Fire tablet is quick and responsive, and I can add an SD card for more storage. I can read my Kindle books if I don't have my Kindle with me, and the books look ok on the screen. If it breaks out of warranty, I'll just replace it. And at the moment they're £50 which is even better!

New winter wetsuit purchased saving £150 due to it being last years version.
GTX1080 purchased saving about £80 (which was actually a very good price).
All in all not too bad!

Getting mildly hacked off now, there seems to be a lot of 'deals' doing the rounds with very limited shelflife so they are gone within hours of going live. I'm sure part of that is just retailers looking to post a headline-grabbing deal to drive traffic to their sites and then hope people buy something else.

Still haven't found an acceptable in stock deal at lowest ever price on a couple of my key hit list items, 4k >55" TV and Fridge Freezer. I've seen a couple of decent offers but they are either OOS or gone up in price now.

Your best off using an app like HDUK and then setting keywords so you get instant alerts when deals pop up. That's the only way. Like you said, deals are only around for a few hours and once it's on HUKD then you can bet it's out of stock with in an hour or two as People rush to buy. You have to be savvy the days.

Going to take until the next ice age to make it back on spending hundreds and hundreds on bulbs :p

Just picked up GT Sport on PS4 for £17. They're adding in single player which actually makes it worth getting now.
