The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

Okay, thanks. I need at least 2 switch (4 really) which is £60 on Amazon and the reviews don't look great, so I think I'll pass.

Lease deals. The fire brigade get good deals.

Ye you will save loads of money compared to me with my Hue stuff but im not trying to save money- I'm trying to create a home I'm comfortable in.
I could have bought a dining table with 4 chairs for £400 from Ikea if i was trying to save money but i didn't. Like i said, all relative to a persons income and they personal preferences.

Yeah link me to these deals - Range rover for £400 and golf for £100.

Yeah I have a Italian Mahogany Designer Dining Table bought from the Italian centre in the city (similar to this one with all the designs in the wood https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/g/0~QAAOSw6lxZdk2f/s-l225.jpg ), it will last forever and worth a fortune. However there is no way I think £50 for a bulb is anything other than setting fire to money. There are plenty of folk out there earning £10K a week yet would never spend £50 on a bulb.

It's pretty much a very niche market for people with money to burn.

Are you special?
I said that's for the fire brigade so exclusive government contracts with suppliers to get those deals. They not for Joe bloggs off the street.

Your entitled to your opinion but I don't think you should rant about the cost of a hue bulb just because you think it's too much.

Should I give up my £180 Nike trainers and just get myself down to Wynsors World of shoes and get some for £20 too?

Never heard of exclusive deals for fire brigade. Why don't other government departments get these deals?

Police, civil service, etc?

Managed to get the Hue starter kit (b22) which came with the 3 bulbs and the hub. Nothing fancy and the novelty wears off after a while but wife really wanted it.

She also pointed out that she's extremely disciplined as she didn't waste money on pointless things over the black Friday sales...

Bought a load of hue stuff on BF and received it yesterday and set it all up, was massively underwhelmed, it just wasn't as bright as the led bulbs they replaced and the colours just seemed very gimmicky and not very vibrant. They are also longer than standard GU10's so hang out of the flush fittings. Spent about £600 all in and decided it definitely wasn't worth the money so got it all boxed up again and returns labels printed. At least my curiosity has been satisfied and its not for me.

I don't understand the hate for Philips Hue stuff.
Yes they are expensive for what they do- very expensive but then isn't it relative to a persons income / disposable income / lifestyle?

Its each to their own really. My sister likes perfumes so she spends a lot on them over a year (has a collection of over 60) but in reality less than a half dozen would be enough. My brother drives a Range rover and pays £400 a month for it but in reality a VW Golf at £99 a month would do the same thing. I have, over the years, amounted a collection of OG trainers from Adidas and Nike and have over 80 pairs, some that I have never worn, when in reality 4/5 pairs would be enough.

<snip>
Thats some serious justification you've giving there.

So, not really a good comparison for the vast majority really?

Philips must be laughing all the way to the bank with them HUE bulbs. And Jesus £60 for a LED strip!

A fool and their money are easily parted.

I thought I'd managed to keep away from the BF sales but just succumbed to some Beast Solo 3 headphones for my daughter and I think I'm about to press go on a larger SSD for this laptop. Damn, almost made it through the weekend!

I don't work in the fire brigade so I can't answer that. I said my brother does. Come down to competitive tender at the end of the day and how badly you want the business I guess.

Thanks, the higher wattage B22/E27 are £2-4 same pricing as other places. Thought I had missed a bargain somewhere !

It's not the wattage you should be looking at but the lumens.

Wattage is how much power they consume. Lumens is how much light they produce.

Why would you want a high wattage bulb?

You would want a high lumens if you're after powerful led bulbs

How is it not?
You can go online now and find something that will cost £400p/m and you can also find something that costs £100p/m. Both get from A to B. The is a deal for those that want to pay more and those that want to pay less which is the point I was making.
