The BMW Question?

Whats the difference between a fishing holiday and a sports fishing holiday?

Maybe it's organised by Audi, who seem to like adding "sport" to anything they build. Sorry, a little off topic.

Lol you think I haven't noticed?

I do indeed know what he is like on and off the forums so you dont need to tell me;)

Nice cars I have owned a few and may own another. I Think it is the majority of the drivers and their attitude that ruin it for the others.

Many people buy them for the wrong reasons:

"I drive a BMW therefore I am." and other false elitist thinking crap. There are some on this forum.

I borrowed my friends M3 not to long ago and while i may end up getting one later on in the year I had to get used to people looking at me like I was a total t**t every time I got out of it. This does not bother me though as some are just plain jealous others are not and I have a thick skin.
If any one here takes offence well this is my view and experience and I hope you are mature enough to see my point.

Show us the loaf tbh.

Ive been on holiday and have missed what on earth the loaf of bread thing is all about, can someone enlighten me please. :)

I could buy a brand new M5 this afternoon if I wanted.

Of course it'd be repossed in about 3 months as I defaulted on the payments but that's a minor technicality. :p

Have to say that when I was younger and knew no better, that Bimmers never looked that impressive. What I mean by that is that you dig out your scrappy copy of "What Car", and look for the most bang (for which read BHP) for the money. Quite clearly, BMs just don't stack up well on that, which probably explains the number of high powered front wheel drive econoboxes on our roads.
Then one day you get to compare a high powered washing machine to a well honey front engined, rwd motor, and realise what you've been missing. At that point, the BM suddenly makes a LOT more sense. Might not be the fastest thing in a straightline, but the handling, feedback, poise, and fluidity is awesome, especially so considering their not-inconsiderable weight.

A few years ago, I did own an E30 325 touring (took it to the OCUK RR day).
Frankly it was the worst car I've ever owned for things going wrong. My guess is that some previous owners had seriously neglected any form of reasonable maintenance, and boy did it show. Having said that, was ace to drive and just about as perfect as cars get for a combination of space, usefulness, economy and driving enjoyment (at least for my requirements).

So my next car will almost certainly be a 330i saloon (been told to get a car with 4 doors). At it's size, I simply can't think of a better car, regardless of price.

I don't recall you asking for permission to go on holiday? :D

Ok, well whenever someone with about 7 posts to their name her comes as posts pics of their Ferrari/Super Mercedes or whatever and it's clear the pics are stolen from another forum - we ask them for the same pics with a loaf of bread on the bonnet.

Remember stig - the guy who wanted to supercharge his already supercharged Mercedes - it came from him originally.

I think BMW's are great cars (1 series aside which imo is rubbish) but they just don't appeal to me in any of their current guises.

I would have to add though if someone wanted to swap a mint 330I sport touring* for my vRS with no extra money I would indeed say yes.

(*I have a thing for the 330i sport tourers - please note I mean the old shape model not the new one)

I think they are fantastic cars but whether I would buy one myself... I'm not sure.

Whilst I wouldn't put any doubt over whether they are worth the premium you pay over a more run of the mill make I would always be considering what else I could have got for my money from the likes of Toyota, Ford, Honda etc. or on the other hand how much extra cash I could have in my pocket for driving an equivalent spec car.

Having said that if I was ever in the market for a car where my budget fell into decent BMW territory I would consider one, just as I would all the alternatives

Only thing I like about BMWs is the way their dipped headlights look :|

Wouldnt buy one if I had the cash though. Technically im sure they are very nice cars and they might very well be fun to drive but I cant really say I like anything about them apart from the headlights :E

Wrong, insurance companys won't actually insure me.

I guarantee that someone, somewhere WILL insure you. You wont like the price, but that of course means it isnt impossible just very expensive. So you are wrong in saying you could just go out and get a 330Ci.

Yes I can, If I wanted to, I could go and pickup a BMW right now.

See above.

Fishing holiday is you go away on a holiday to do fishing among other things.

Sports fishing is solely fishing where you catch things bigger than a boat, have $400 a day guides and do nothing but fish. [/quote]

What a load of rubbish both mean the same thing but one gives off an air of extreme cost ;)

I'm not about to have a debate on a Motors forum about the differences between a fishing holiday and a sports fishing holiday :p

It's an interesting question.
I think that if you're comparing a boggo 318 or 518, you might well be right.
Look at the better BMs, such as a 330, and just what out of the Toyota, Ford or Honda range is an appropriate comparison (at the same size)?
From Ford and Honda you have the ST220 and Accord. Both OK cars, but also both fwd. At least Toyota can field the IS300, which is actually pretty damn good, but just doesn't quite make it from the point of view of "completeness".

He's right, Gerald.

Fishing = rod/pole, sitting on a riverbank/lakeside and using lures/fly-fishing. Lots of drizzle and waterproofs.

Sports Fishing = in the ocean, on a big, fast boat, using massive rods, several-hundred-pound line, hooks the size of your hand, whole fish as bait and getting 400lb+ catches.

This becuase they are what is known as 'good cars' and do not have rust or 80's design. Therefore you'd not understand :)

Besides I think we all established on this forum long ago that a 1983 Chevette is more fun to drive than a 330Ci Sport, according to JRS.

But age of car and speed is not directly proportional to the fun factor...

Yea, in my haste to post I forgot how much better the suspension and handling setup is on a 1983 Chevette. It's a wonder people bothered with performance cars in those days when a cheap shopping cart was so MUCH fun.
