The Boys (Amazon Prime)

Not enjoying this as much as S1.

Found myself checking my phone when Cockney grandma turned up and when the writers thought a big black dude 'hiding' on a roof was acceptable.

Yeah not as enjoyable as S1 for sure, a lot of nothing for quite the majority of time. Butcher is also acting worse than he did in S1, the whole hero side of it is a bit weak. Butchers accent is god damn terrible and the dialouge from him is grim. It's just like they've watched half an episode of Eastenders and some football factory.

If Homelander doesn't die at any point in this shows life time, I will be traumatised for the rest of my days :)

I’m not familiar with the comics, and I know S1 wasn’t a straight adaptation of them, but watching this my gut feeling is that S2 is diverging a lot more from the source material and consequently some of the writers ideas about what to do with the characters aren’t hitting as well.

I don't understand the hate. Is it cool to be ultra picky. This show is one of the best things on atm, s2 is easily as good as s1.

I don't know - Is it cool to be ultra "fan girlie"? :D

People are allowed to think differently and are allowed to give their opinion to others. If you still like it then good for you, if others don't then good for them too, who cares in the end!

The comic and the TV show have practically nothing in common plot wise. They’ve buggered Butcher, Karl Urban’s character is a great portrayal of a Butcher but the plot has robbed the character of all his motivation. In fact the titular Boys have been badly served plot wise. The comic early plot wasn’t fit for TV without rework but the end sequence would have made a great conclusion but they seem to be throwing a lot of build ups to that story under the bus. I feel that many of the plot choices made thus far have caused them problems as the series has progressed.

Personally I didn’t mind most of the changes in the first season but a few cut strings to the main overarching comic plot. Also more substantial comic plot elements were used for sugar rush episodes rather than having greater meaning.

I’m still hopeful the writers can pull it out the bag even if it’s different.

"They're starving but have cell phones", that really tickled my balls. :D
Haha yeah.

The scene with him addressing the crowd. I thought I felt a mass murder coming... Then blue ballsed. Would like to have seen where that narrative would have went.

Confused at the sex scene. Stormfront is playing some sort of long game, but idk what. Wants a baby? Wants to kill HL? She basically showed him he can't kill her... At least not with laser eyes.

Also "laser my fkin ****". Shame they showed that in trailers but still amusing.

My guess is that she knows she can't kill him, so she wants to manipulate him and sex is the best tool for that. However "why" she wants to manipulate him is the million dollar question. Is it only personal (she wants to be the boss) or is it business (she actually works for another company?) or does she work for another country, aiming to undermine the US and their monopoly on Heroes etc?

I think finding out the answer to that is going to be the main point of Season 2, regardless of all the sidelines with Butcher, Starlight & Hughie's relationship, "The Female" arc etc.

It's okay but most scenes not involving Homelander/Stormfront are pretty boring I think.

Massive let down that.

Problem is once Homelanders public image is shattered there's no going back on what happens next, I don't doubt something like that will happen eventually but it's not middle of a random episode stuff, that's for when the series pivots entirely.

Yeah but if it's picking on something so little it's inconsequential, then isn't it just arguing for the sake of it, and in doing so does the opinion matter a toss if all it's doing is finding a fault where so little exists that it doesn't negatively effect the shows quality.

Trying to find fault for the sake of finding fault was my point. It's not cool and it says something about the person, not the show. Critics, quick to judge but not to create.

Isn't that partly the point of the show though?

Stormfront is maybe a tad boring, but I think that's clearly on purpose (the CotC, her past, her ambitions). Not sure I agree about Homelander though, there's plenty of depth there in my view, especially after that scene and his odd subservience to Mr. Edgar... Why is he so afraid considering his own view on his 'superiority'?

I think it is the fact Edgar treats him as a child, that he is unimpressed by Homelander. Homelander can dominate physically not earn the respect he craves from Edgar but is otherwise freely given by the public. It’s his insecurity.
