I gave my car a clean today. As usual the plastic surround on the E46 mirrors was a faded grey instead of a nice black.

I used Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer

This stuff doesn't wash off like your normal back to black, it's meant to last for 6-12 months.

heat gun tbh, brings back the factory finish and will last ages. Careful with it though, that trick only works with some plastics, others just melt.

Thought here would be the best place to ask

Want to give the new car a good going over tomorrow - not looking to do any fancy detailing or anything, but a good wash and polish is in order. Want to get a really good deep shine - what's the best shampoo and polish I can get from Halfords? Wondering if a clay kit is worth it

Pretty impressive if it lasts that long (although I have plenty of B2B left at the moment, so won't be buying another product for the time being ;)).

Out of curiosity, what's the best tape to use to avoid getting any trim restoring products on painted surfaces? Found it a bit awkward to avoid getting any on the paint after I'd washed my car last time, so need something I can affix around the trim edges which won't damage the paintwork/finish at all.

From Halfords, without a DA/rotary, I'd get some Autoglym Super Resin Polish (SRP) and if you want to top it off (optional, SRP has sealant properties) get some Autoglym Extra Gloss protection (EGP). They're not the most exotic or must-have DW products but they are good value, easy to use and give a good result.

Shampoo...I don't know really, unless you go for the expensive stuff or as part of a system...Megs should do it. If you are going to use the SRP, you should clay really, again from Halfords, the Megs clay kit. It's nice and mild and should do the trick.

3M painters tape...get it in B&Q. Anything low tack really.

I said it in the other thread, but that M3 looks really, really nice, especially from the front.

Solid - we have the same tyres and I wanted ask you, standing at the back of the car is the tread running in opposite directions?

Erm i'm not sure I shall go check shortly for you. have a look in the meet pics might be some somewhere so i dont have to venture outside.

Just checked - Erm they have the tread line on the inside at the rear with the thin end of the grooves on the inside edge, is this of any use to you?

Edit - Question answered! I need not be worried.

that is one of the issues with the vredstein tyres - a lot of people have questioned why the need for the aysymetric pattern. As far as i know the marketing men have answered the question but the real problem is cost.

You may notice that the feel of the car is different on left sweeping bends compared to right (you have to try them to see what i mean)

It's cheaper to produce aysymetrics?

I've had the car on both types of long sweeping bends, both with negative camber and the car feels the same. But for the first 250-300 miles when the tyres were new the car was a touch fidgety on left handers.
