Ordered some Petes 53 and poorboys natural for my day of cleaning today and they havent turned up :( some websites ah. Ohwell will have to do the waxing tomorrow.

I really need to seal my wheels - they're starting to get stuff stuck to them.

I used that PB wheel sealant a few times on my last car and even after two and a half years, the alloys were as clean as anything with nothing stuck to them.

I highly recommend the stuff!

Rain-X / Halfords Rain Repellent

I put some Halfords Rain Repellent on all the glass on my car at the weekend and buffed it off etc. according to the instructions. Today coming to work I used my wipers, and it looked very smeary for a few seconds until the smearing disappeared entirely. Does this mean I put too much on or didn't buff it enough, or is this just to be expected with this product?

On the plus side, it beads the water off extremely well.

That's the drawback to using these type of products on your windscreen I'm afraid.
A lot of people, me included, only use it on the side windows because of this smearing. Some people don't mind it, others find it a problem.

same with rainx. Once over 60mph its no problem as i dont have to use wipers :D

No-one has a recommendation on a good sealant or wax for a solid red? :(

I did have a read through on polishing bliss and they seem to recommend carnauba based wax for solid mid-tones. Any thoughts?

Natty's Blue brought the Yaris up beautifully.

This was with a clay, cleaner polish/glaze (PBW Blackhole, no abrasives) and Natty's blue.

Depends on the trim, if it's textured or smooth, how old it is etc. All sorts of stuff you can try, some will mask the stains, some may remove. Heat gun, if you have one, is very effective but be careful. Pencil eraser (soft white ones are best), vegetable oil, cheap all purpose cleaner and a nail brush. Try those first before buying anything.

I'm Fett there as well, hardly ever post there, never posted the GT-R "detail" there as far as I remember, I kept the pics back to enter a show 'n shine. They were on the PB site as June winner but they only keep the last 6 months so got pruned.

Any chance of posting them up now, there or here ? Or just email them to me at [email protected]
Reason I ask is you seem to know what your on about and I want to give my car a full once-over.

So far all I have done is jetwash, wash car with two bucket method with AG Shampoo and Conditioner, then wipe clean and use some ebay special Carnuba wax spray (which is actually rather good) and then buff off.

^^ Got some white/grey trim which is meant to be black?

I've heard great things about 'Black Wow', which I might try soon, on my passat the plastic trims just keep going grey and look stained no matter what I use.

Very nice, many thanks :)

How do you like Zymol waxes ?

I just did my car with a £14 wax called autoglym wet wax :

I didnt do the bottom of the car nor did I clean the alloys, joys of living off a muddy farm lane :(

LMAO, you chopped the car off at both ends :D.

Top looks smart, but why does living down a muddy lane mean that you can't clean the bottom of the car and the wheels? All the more reason to clean them, surely.

Used my 70-300mm lens, couldnt stand back any further.

Cos as soon as i drive out of my drive my car goes through a muddy puddle and bam, dirty.

Cheers for reply, but what actual products?

Meguiars clay kit is a good start, the clay is pretty mild and it comes with a bottle of quick detailer for lubrication

Any sheep skin or microfibre mitt is going to be suitable.

Wash, I personally use Megs NXT, but Dodo Juice Born to be mild seems highly regarded also.

Wax, I'd probably recommend something like Collonite's 915, it costs a little over £20 for a 18oz tin that will probably last you forever considering a couple of coats of it will probably last you at least 6 months at a time.

Meguiars do a complete wash and wax kit for about £35 (NXT range), which seems to include all the stuff you need to get a half decent result - shampoo, wax, wash mitt, microfibre towel and wax applicator. I'll probably pick up one of these myself in the near future - seems like a good starting point, and I can't really justify anything too extravagant (most of you lot drive much more expensive cars than me :p).

No clay/detailing spray included, but you can pick up a seperate kit for that for about £25.
