My first attempt (by hand) using clay, polish & wax, only got a few pictures uploaded atm though, ok results.

Also remembered afterwards I got my new smoothed aerial through the post as well hence why some are with and some are with my old one.

Got my camera back, gave the car a once over after removing this week's lolcano fallout, and marveled at the shine:

Halfords sell the Meguires applicator pads (yellow) which are fine for hand application of waxes and polishes.

Ah I noticed these but didn't buy them as it says on the packet:
For use on leather, vinyl and rubber surfaces

I guess they are okay anyway?

It's what I used to achieve the above results (bar using the Auto Glym red sponges to apply my HD wax).

This is true, but having owned two black cars now I don't think I'll bother again. As nice as they look once swirl-free, and properly waxed, they take far too much effort to keep in that state!
