I used the Muc-Off kit today for the first time, car had been unwashed for some weeks now due to poor weather at the weekends!

Anyway, the Microfibre cloth it comes with is actually very very good, very absorbent, more than the Meg's big towel I bought before. It's also got 2 sides which I did not realise before, it's also quite thick and feels great when drying and buffing.

The mitt is also very absorbent and is of better quality than other MF mitts I've used before.(both halfords and cleanyourcar.co.uk brands).

The shampoo is quite nice, it lathers a bit thicker than the triple wax I normally use and has a nice frgrance to it as well. I like the fact you squeeze the tube to release it instead of the messier "put 1 lid/cup full into the bucket" method of other shampoo bottles.

I have no idea how good the wheel cleaner is as I used Bilberry before it, and it doesn't stick to the alloys as well as Bilberry Alloy Wheel Cleaner. It seems to give the alloys more of a shine than Bilberry though.

The spray detailing wax is rather nice, I don't reckon it's suitable for use as the only "wax", it's quite thick and applies quite well without leaving any residue. I used it while the car was still wet, just sprayed on and dried/buffed with the MF cloth. It seems to do a better job that Meg's speed detailer which cost me about £9.

Overall I am extremely happy with the kit, for £15 it's giving results I paid double that for using other brands. The MF cloth alone is better than ones that cost ~£10 in car stores.

Very happy!

Anyone got any tips for getting oil out of an interior? The other half's car had a 4L container of engine oil in the boot which unfortunately spilled everywhere, soaking the boot floor and the rear seats.

We have scrubbed as much of it off as possible, but its soaked into the sponge of the rear seats. Anyone got any good tips? Would steam cleaning help?

Hi chaps!

I have just bought myself my first decent car. It's one of the new renault clio's (new style), and naturally I want to keep it in tip top condition. The car I drove before was a heap of chunk and I generally didn't put much effort into cleaning it, but I want to make sure my new car looks it's best. With christmas just around the corner and relatives hounding me for present ideas, I wondered if anyone knew of a decent car cleaning kit?

I've just flicked through this thread and am astounded at how deep car cleaning can go and some of the cars look stunning. So naturally I want one that's good for someone new to proper car cleaning (if there is such a thing?).

Thanks in advance guys and I hope to get some pics up soon :)

Also:

What camera have you got dude? Stunning.

Has anyone heard of these? Just started out, well more seriously and the shop is pretty near me. His own products seem a good bang for buck, tempted to grab some and test them.

Seen Alan on a few forums I'm on and he seems okay. I assume he's on Detailing World too, but not sure who he is.

The range will be decent, probably re-bottled Anchem or similar, but lots of suppliers use their stuff, so its quite good really!

The shampoo and foam look okay, surely worth a try.

Yeah I was talking to him on FB the other week, I believe he has just left the RAF to start out full time and he has just opened a workshop too.

Will pop in when I get back, looks to be decent stuff at fair prices.

Anyone got any tips for polishing headlight plastic? The lights on my E39 are look awfully scratched and pitted, so much so that it's affecting the light output.

I have wet and dry paper, down to 2500 grade, but i've not got a clue what to polish them back up with?

Replace the lenses. The lenses are originally coated to help reduce scuffing/marring/stone chips etc so polishing it will remove that protective layering and you'll end up with a distorted lens soon enough.

Topped up my wax for winter yesterday.

Been driving the Touring this weekend and one thing that struck me about it was that although in lovely condition, the leather has gone quiet hard - it's less soft than that in my car despite being roughly the same age and many thousands of miles less.

What can I do to restore the nice soft supple leather feeling? I've already tried some Gliptone on it and it made little difference.

Seems like a huge waste of time other than a simple wash at the moment, it's dirty again in half a day :(

Use this:

It is literally, the shiz. I use it everytime I clean my leather (probably every 2-4 weeks) and there are no visible signs of wear on any seats, including drivers seat or steering wheel (which I also use it on). Smell lasts for days and makes the leather incredibly soft. I'm quite liberal with it, but a bottle can easily last a year.

Spent 6 hours cleaning today.

ValetPro Orange Pre Wash
AG Shampoo and a bit of VP tar remover
Sonus clay
Dried with wilkos 97p quick detailer - good stuff :D
AG EGP all over
AG Bumper Care on the plastic bits and Fast Glass on the windows
Wheels - Bilberry, de-tar, AG wheel sealant and Megs tyre gel.

I was thinking about doing a polish with Ultra Deep Shine but I did polish it about a 2 months ago and I think its still doing the job, also UDS and EGP aren't meant to work well together so I just put the EGP on it to last me the winter, last time it had EGP was probably spring. I wish I could do something about the stripes, they look a bit tatty close up.

This is the first time I've cleaned the car while at uni, my housemates think I'm mad! :D

Bad picture but shiny:

My ZS after a good detail, they do shine well. It's a shame the Brits didn't put as much effort into the mechanicals as the paintwork... :D

My ZT also came up quite nice. I miss this car a lot!

The bonnet did need re-aligning, I only noticed after this picture. :o
