Just a quick wash today, rain was due but wanted to get that horrible dust off from the rain the other week.

Finally replaced the dealer tax disc holder with a magnetic one too (done after pic), also trying some Rain-X to see how it gets on.

Will have a go at clay and wax when there's no rain due, looking up close it desperately needs it. Anyone got an opinion on the Turtle Wax clay bar kit that Halfords sell?

I bought the Bilthamber medium clay (only need water as a lubricant, big plus for me) a few months back. Having never used clay before it was amazing to see the difference afterwards.

Heartily recommended.

Do you find medium too hard? Just reading up on it and people seem to love it (no detailer needed!!! big plus!) but they find it hard to fold so they normally opt for the soft one.

Thanks for the recommendation Leigh, just bought the Bilt Hamber soft clay, as Ray said people found the medium a little hard to need into shape so decided to try the soft one.

Will a spray wax be sufficient to protect the paint work after claying or is a more traditional style wax preferred?

Ray - Giving snow foam a try soon then?

I have aqua wax and paste wax.

TBH, I prefer paste wax. The feeling of it seems nicer when applying it but it takes twice as long though to put on. You need to spread it, then buff it off. Liquid wax is so much easier.

As for durability, it seems all the guys in DW love paste wax and all the more durable ones seems to be paste wax (Glasur, FK1000, 476, Supernatural - although this is a hybrid) so i am going to go with what they say as I am relatively new to paste wax, only been using Aqua Wax last year. Also, with paste wax I am feeling i am applying wax, where with liquid wax i am feeling i am removing it all and on the back of my mind i am wondering if it's all soaked up in the towel.

On a side note, I put on FK1000 on the wheels 10 days ago and hosed it with some water (not pressure washer, just hose), it comes up clean so easily! and it beads very well. This FK1000 is lovely stuff indeed.

And yup, I've ordered a Lance and some chemical so will give it a wash when it arrive. I've not washed the car for 3 weeks now except removing the bugs on the bumper from the weekend and some bird dropping today, eek! Lots of dirty rain marks are present at the moment.

Can you put a glaze on top of polish? For example for my next round of buying I'm thinking of doing:

Gtechniq C1 + Poorboys Black Hole + FKP1000

But would I just be cleaning the C1 off with the Black Hole?

If you're referring to Gtechniq C1 as a polish, it isn't - it's a sealant. You'd polish/glaze, seal and then wax.

Cheers Ray, will give some paste wax a try, don't mind spending a bit of time on it. Sounds like the snow foam will definitely get a good test!

I use the same snowfoam, it's good stuff although took me a while to get the consistency and ratio of water:snowfoam correct. I've now drawn a small line on the lance bottle so I know how much snowfoam to put in!

Can I see a photo? Or roughly what ratio to water do you use?

Use the same stuff... You need to get a good not too thick consistency so it clings to the car well but still comes out the end of the lance :D

I use about 1.5inch of Snow Foam in the lance bottle topped up with luke warm water.
I usually get about 3 coverings per bottle... some times a tad more.

I use an old measuring jug. The lance will hold 1 litre, and the ratio is 1:100. So I put 100ml of snow foam in and a cupfull of shampoo.

The rest is filled with warm water.

I use Autobrite HD Foam Lance and MagiFoam as it's highly recommended by Detailing World. They always have an offer on too, I picked up my lance, plus 5 litres of snow foam plus 1 litre of MagiFoam for £39 incl delivery
