Cool i think i'll try that next time. Its just Ive heard certain chemicals can damage the fibers rendering them useless and they're not exactly cheap.

the whole rotary machines being dangerous thing is such a load of tosh. Just look at this and you will see that even after holding it in the same place for a significant amount of time using a fast cut compound until it starts smoking there is no real damage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y8vHRwiTgY

This is the kind of thing a non-retarded person would do with a machine.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A56acHlFQ8&feature=related

that's BS tbh, I've seen someone trash paint in literally 2 minutes letting it go dry over the same spot on soft paint (renault) burnt through to the point of needing a respray, and that was in real life not on some youtube video. That was on a door panel, so steel not plastic.

Can someone recommend me some decent polish to remove swirl marks on metallic blue paint?
I was using Einzett waxpolish soft but its not really doing the job. I was looking at some poorboys SSX, as I use their sealant and wax. Any other suggestions? I will be doing this by hand as I dont have use of a machine polisher.

Be very careful with rotaries, different cars have different levels of paint hardness, but I do agree you have to be a bit of a tard to screw your paint up big time, most people tend to impart holograms first time around, but thats easy to correct.

I bought a silverline 'orange' and lots of 3m pads, it all came to about £70, well worth it as I can do 2 cars easily in a weekend, and it really saves your back and arms.

As an aside, i dunno why you silver owners bother, I did my moms Merc, the full shebang, ****ing thing looks no better than before I bloody started:p

i completely agree. my dad used to buy/sell a lot of 2nd hand cars, i would be involved in the valeting of nearly all of them, and this was when i was really young, from about 11 years old up

ive never burnt a car with a buffer/machine polisher and i was just a kid lol

with a say 3000rpm rotary? I can't imagine any kid being able to deal with one of them, I wouldn't let an 11 year old near one, potential to really hurt yourself and/or the car with one of them - basically a grinder without a cutting disc on it.

I might invest in a buffer when i get a car with decent paintwork. My focus has a few areas where the paint has bubbled slightly and i can imagine the buffer taking the paint off in them areas.

Still looks nice from a meter or so away, its just when you get close and start inspecting you see the defects. Wish I'd looked at it closer when i bought it now. Still its just to get my no claims down then i can get something better.

are you serious? a 4inch angle grinder is c.10krpm-11krpm

i cant remember what rpm his buffer was, i can find out no problem.

3krpm is more than though to ruin your day, but hey what do I know - everyone get rotaries and go nuts!

Too much photochopping going on, the sunlight is all you need.

My pics will come later from my final weekend of cleaning. It has taken 3 weekends to get it this way :D

Anyone?

You could try something like Menzerna Final Polish, but de-swirling by hand is pretty hard going if you're using an abrasive polish as you'll probably find you'll need 2-3 coats to see any real difference.

The fillers in SRP do a pretty good job at hiding imperfections and swirls, you could also look at Bilt Hamber Auto Balm. Whilst this is not strictly speaking a polish, it is supposed to do a very good job at filling, and has a good level of protection also.
